Yorkshire Dales is a National Park and where you can find some of the most iconic scenery such as spectacular lush green valleys, thundering waterfalls and rivers, picturesque villages and historic castles that are truly the pride of the Yorkshire county. This vast and great natural landscape welcomes thousands of visitors to appreciate its great beauty and for some countryside adventures. What are the best seaside towns in the United Kingdom? New towns are developing at the seaside across the UK in addition to those ancient towns and cities. All of these towns and cities are worming their way into the hearts of tourists from home and abroad. With due respect to these towns, and out of a deep sense of duty, we want to identify which of these towns are the best so that we can help the decision-making process for those having reasons to consider seaside towns. On the basis of that, we present to you the 10 best seaside towns in the UK.
Please note that most of these best towns in the UK have at one time or the other been the best in England.
10. Swanage, Dorset, England
The tenth place we’ll consider as one the best seaside towns in the UK is Swanage in South West of England. The town has been a popular seaside resort since Victorian times. Up till now, families have continued to enjoy its calm shallow beach. This seaside is also one of the 10 best seaside resorts in the UK.
With its panoramic views, the seaside resort offers relaxing luxurious holidays in self-catering accommodation in caravans and luxury hot tub lodges. If you want to own a holiday home, they’re available here with unrivaled views across the bay. The town is about one kilometer from the leisurely beautiful Swanage Railway. Its proximity to this and other parks, beaches, and castles makes it a good choice.
9. St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales

Its cozy pub lunches and walks along its beach are charming.

7. Filey, North Yorkshire, England
Ironically to some, Filey which is a town in the Borough of Scarborough considered unpopular by some people is one of the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Truly, this beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire deserves a slot here as one of the most popular in the UK. It used to be a fishing village before developing into a popular resort with a very large beach that is playing a remarkable role in popularizing it.
It is quieter than most of its neighbors and most of the other coastal towns. This is because it has enough accommodations, seats, and transportation. There is no need for any rush here. You can just go there and enjoy your peace.

No other city in northern England says 'medieval' quite like York, a city of extraordinary cultural and historical wealth that has lost little of its pre-industrial lustre.
A magnificent circuit of 13th-century walls encloses a medieval spider's web of narrow streets. At its heart lies the immense, awe-inspiring York Minster, one of the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals in the world. York's long history and rich heritage is woven into virtually every brick and beam, and the modern, tourist-oriented city – with its myriad museums, restaurants, cafes and traditional pubs – is a carefully maintained heir to that heritage.

The best things to do in York mostly revolve around the city's long history, which it proudly displays. The maze of historical streets in the city center create the feeling of walking back in time. It’s a place of old traditions and quirky little details that make it a great place to just walk around and explore. Don’t think that the city is just a giant museum, though – it’s a busy, lively place with a lot to see and do throughout the day.
Be sure to pack some comfortable shoes because the City of York is best explored on foot. The distances between attractions is rarely long, many of the old streets are too narrow for vehicles, and parking is hard to find. Start the day in the Shambles
Walk and shop down 14th century streets
The Shambles is one of York’s oldest and most fun streets. The buildings date back to the 14th century and have the iconic overhang of that period, but are now so old that they lean over and virtually touch at the top. Be sure to check out the Shambles Market, which is best explored early in the day, before it gets busy, and get your photos before the very narrow, very popular streets fill up too much. This whole part of York, leading up towards the Minster, is a maze of narrow streets, with interesting shops on every corner. Go explore!
Jorvik Viking Center
Visit York when it was the capital of Viking Britain
Before York was York, it was Jorvik – the heart of the Viking dominion in England. The city was captured in 866 AD and remained under Norwegian control until 1066 AD. The Jorvik Viking Center gives you the chance to step back to that time and explore the city as it was under Norwegian rule. It combines archeological finds with dioramas, making it one of the more fun and immersive museums in York. The center also organizes the Viking Festival every February, which goes a step further and brings the dioramas to life. It’s a busy and popular place, so be sure to head their early to avoid the long queues.
York Minster
Get a gargoyle’s-eye view of the center of York
Fun fact: an ancient local law ensures that the historical York Minster remains among the tallest building in the city. The Gothic-style cathedral towers over the old part of York, at a height of 235 feet. If you’ve got the energy (and the money to pay the modest ticket fee), climb the 275 steps of the central tower to see the rooftop gargoyles and share their view across the historical streets of York City Center. Alternately, if heights aren’t your thing, just enjoy the vaulted magnificence of the interior and the sense of peace it provides.

Enjoy local culture and history in floral surroundings
Yorkshire folk are famous for their no-nonsense attitude, and the York Museum Gardens are a great example of this. It’s basically a museum and a garden combined into one beautiful location in York. This staggeringly simple name conceals a real treasure of the city. The city center gardens contain the ruins of a medieval abbey and those of a historical hospital, as well as an art gallery, an old observatory and a museum dedicated to the history of Yorkshire, dating back to when dinosaurs roamed the area. The delightful gardens themselves are popular with locals looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy some summer sunshine.

Enjoy great views of the City Center
York has been a walled city since Roman times (about 71 AD), but the striking stone walls surrounding the city center today were mostly built between the 12th to 14th centuries, around the same time as York Minster. They remain in very good condition and walking the ramparts around the city center is one of the most enjoyable things to do in York, giving you lovely views across the old town within and the newer areas without. The gatehouses (or “bars”) are especially impressive – particularly Micklegate Bar, to the south. Be careful on rainy days, though, as the stones are very smooth from the many feet which have come before yours.

Knaresborough - One of the Prettiest Towns in Yorkshire - North Yorkshire
Knaresborough has to be one of the prettiest towns in Yorkshire. The River Nidd Gorge carves its way through the town and beautiful historic buildings some 900 years old, teeter over the edge looking down at the river. We have visited many towns in Yorkshire in other videos but this has to be one of the prettiest towns in Yorkshire. It has more than just the historical aspects of a Castle and the iconic Knaresborough Viaduct, but riverside walks along the famous former Royal Forest of Knaresborough. The folklore tales of Mother Shipton and the petrifying well, to local hero Blind Jack. It is truly a fantastic place to spend a day, boating, walking and soaking up the atmosphere.

12. Bangor, Northern Ireland

It’s now known as the Queen of the Cotswolds because of its heritage architecture and unique landscapes. The stunning Rococo Garden opening in warmer months makes that season memorable.

The next is Sandwich, a historic town in the Dover District of Kent in southeast England. The civil parish lies on the River Stour. Its many original medieval buildings and several public houses listed in the old town walls, almshouses, and the White Mill are among the beautifiers of this town. The attractive town which was a major port is now more than 3 kilometers from the sea no thanks to the disappearance of the Wantsum Channel. Still, its historic center has been preserved. Cirencester, a market town in Gloucestershire, is known as the capital of Cotswolds. This town is also steeped in fascinating history. Lying on the River Churn, it is on the tributary of the River Thames. As the largest town in Cotswolds, it has to its west Cirencester Park. It is the seat of Earl Bathurst and also the site of one of the country’s finest landscape gardens, laid out by Allen Bathurst, First Earl Bathurst after 1714. There are also Abbey House, Roman Amphitheater, and other ancient yet beautiful locations.

This is the first and only Scottish town on this list of the 12 most beautiful towns in the UK. Nestled in rolling hills surrounded by waterfalls, Portree has many quaint colorful cottages. What are the poorest places in the UK? The last thing that’ll come to mind when the UK is mentioned is poverty. It’s not among the countries you’ll associate poverty with. This should be clearly noted as we begin. Yet, not every part of Great Britain has the affluence of London, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Some places in the UK are poor. We’re here to show you the 10 poorest places in the UK.
These places are the same neighborhood with the biggest shortages of basic social infrastructure and facilities such as playgrounds, parks, pubs, shops, and sports centers. You’ll find some of them among the areas left behind in England, Wales, and Scotland. Authorities have to do something about these 10 poorest places in the UK.
10. Newport, Wales
We’re starting in Wales. One of the poorest places in the UK is a city and county borough in Gwent in Wales. We are referring to Newport which is situated on the River Usk close to the river’s confluence with the Severn Estuary. It is 19 kilometers northeast of Cardiff. Newport’s population of 145,700 at the 2011 census notwithstanding, all is not going on fine with the city. It can’t get past its nagging poverty.
Imagine this: of Newport’s 95 neighborhoods in Newport, 23 currently rank among the most deprived in Wales. Do the math, and you will find out that this is about 24 percent of the authority. That’s the biggest percentage of deprivation in the country.
9. Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland
Wales doesn’t have a monopoly on poor places. Scotland has, at least, one of the 10 poorest places in the UK. You’ll find the ninth on our list in Inverclyde. This is Greenock, a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area. The town with a population of 44,248 is located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland.
As proof of how gripping the poverty state of this town is, its population reduced by almost 3,000 within 10 years. In a report that shows how poor some parts of the nations are, Greenock tops the list. In the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020, Greenock has the highest number of deprived areas in Scotland.
8. Halton, England
England too has some of the poorest places in the UK and the first of these on this list is the eighth poorest place in the UK, Halton. The district and unitary authority that registers its name on this list has a borough status in Cheshire.
When you consider its ranking as one of the worst areas in England and Wales by a global children's charity that also ranks Halton as one of the worst areas in England and Wales to be a girl, you will understand why Halton slipped into the rank of the 20 most deprived areas in England. Other indices like life expectancy, children poverty which is 25 percent, health inequality, and unemployment rates are not in a positive light for this district.
7. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
We’re back in Wales to find Merthyr Tydfil, the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, as the seventh of the 10 poorest places in the UK. The town administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is about 37 kilometers north of Cardiff. Often called Merthyr, the town believed to be named after Tydfil, daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, has a population of 43,820.
This town seems to be hitting above its weight as the go-to place for those looking for gloomy job news. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. Even though it's an iron producer, poor transportation service is the bane of this town that makes it so poor.
6. South Elmsall, England
South Elmsall is a small town and a civil parish lying to the east of Hemsworth with a population of 6,519. When it comes to safety, this town is among the most dangerous of small towns, villages, and cities in West Yorkshire. It’s faring badly in income deprivation, employment deprivation, education, skills and training deprivation, health deprivation, and disability. The 2021 overall crime rate in South Elmsall was 111 crimes per 1,000 people Living in this small town, you will be on a downward spiral of ill health and at the risk of premature death or the impairment of quality of life caused by poor physical or mental health.

Visiting Staithes is a history lesson, once home to Captain Cook, and was one of the northeast coast’s busiest fishing villages. Nowadays, Staithes attracts visitors year-round. Many stay in the village to visit the many seafood restaurants – while others lace up their boots and head out for a hike.
There are many beautiful walks in Staithes waiting to be explored. Several Staithes walks follow the clifftop coastal paths that make up the legendary Cleveland Way national trail. Others head inland to explore the North York Moors national park.
