Wivenhoe near Colchester, filmed in 4K by Rodger Tamblyn
The video is deliberately long, (no quick cut scenes) for a slow relaxed watching experience and to get a feel for the area without being rushed through it.
Wivenhoe is a small riverside town, close to the University of Essex, with a history of fishing and boat building.
Within a morning's walk from Colchester Town Centre, and serviced by a regular rail service, Wivenhoe is a popular destination with walkers visiting Colchester.
Visitors can sit right on the quayside outside The Rose and Crown Pub which is a popular traditional Pub with wooden beams and British pub grub.

A very pleasant 13 mile walk (11 'officially') through the South Essex countryside. Filmed on a decent Summer Solstice day, the walk starts out from the riverside town of Wivenhoe to follow the former rail bed of the Wivenhoe to Brightlingsea Railway for a few miles. That then crosses a creek, via a bridge, as walkers used to be able to do via a ford, but now a detour inland is required to reach Brightlingsea.
Lunch is had here, in the very pleasant harbour, whilst awaiting the ferry to East Mersea. After a short ride across the 'Reach', the walker is then passing through two nature reserves. Thereafter, high tides prevent the 'official' path being followed, as do caravan parks a cliff-top alternative. Thus, a bit of road walking is required, with some inland paths, but West Mersea is eventually reached. From here, buses run through to the station at Colchester.
A lovely walk, aided and abetted by some lovely weather! Mixed terrain and scenery and tranquil for the most part. Best done when the tide is out on Mersea Island, if that's possible!
Wivenhoe | Riverside Town in Essex
Wivenhoe is a small riverside town, close to the University of Essex, with a history of fishing and boat building. Whilst some of this industry remains, it now has a healthy population of students and creatives giving it a unique character within the borough.

Colchester is an historic large town and the largest settlement within the borough of Colchester in the county of Essex. As the oldest recorded Roman town in Britain, Colchester is claimed to be the oldest town in Britain. Colchester was for a time the capital of Roman Britain, and is a member of the Most Ancient European Towns Network.
Colchester is some 50 miles (80 km) northeast of London and is connected to the capital by the A12 road and the Great Eastern Main Line. Colchester is seen as a popular town for commuters, and is less than 30 miles (48 km) away from Stansted Airport and 20 miles (32 km) from the passenger ferry port of Harwich.
Colchester is home to Colchester Castle and Colchester United Football Club. It has a Conservative Member of Parliament, Will Quince, who was elected in the 2015 General Election. The correct demonym is Colcestrian. The River Colne runs through the town.
Colchester houses several museums. The Castle Museum, found within Colchester Castle, features an extensive exhibit on Roman Colchester. Nearby are Hollytrees Museum, a social history museum with children's exhibits in the former home of Charles Gray, and the town's Natural History Museum, located in the former All Saints' Church. Gosbecks Archaeological Park is situated south-west of the town. Colchester Zoo is a large zoo based in the Stanway area on the outskirts of town.

Exploring Colchester town UK & Christmas Lights | Evening Walking Tour
Filming Britain's oldest recorded town on our brand new camera - the DJI Pocket 2. We'll see the Colchester Xmas lights, and experience Christmas shopping in Colchester for ourselves. Colchester was the first Roman founded outpost in Britain, and for a time was the capital of Roman Britain. It is still home to the famous Colchester Castle, which is believed to be haunted, and the popular Colchester Zoo.

It was for a time the capital of Roman Britain, and is a member of the Most Ancient European Towns Network.
