Hello sweet friends,
Wittenberg is the fourth largest town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It's situated on the River Elbe, 60 kilometers north of Leipzig and 90 kilometers south-west of Berlin, and it is easily reachable by train.
Wittenberg is famous for its close connection with Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation, for which it received the honorific Lutherstadt. Several of Wittenberg's buildings are associated with the events, including a preserved part of the Augustinian monastery in which Luther lived, first as a monk and later as owner with his wife Katharina von Bora and family, considered to be the world's premier museum dedicated to Luther. Wittenberg was also the seat of the Elector of Saxony, a dignity held by the dukes of Saxe-Wittenberg, making it one of the most powerful cities in the Holy Roman Empire.
Today, Wittenberg is an industrial center and popular tourist destination, best known for its intact historic center and various memorial sites dedicated to Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon. The buildings associated with those two figures were added to the UNESCO world heritage list in 1996, along with other sites in Eisleben, because of their religious significance and testimony to one of the most influential movements of medieval Europe.

Wittenberg, officially Lutherstadt Wittenberg since 1938, is a city in the eastern federal state of Saxony-Anhalt and the seat of the district of Wittenberg. It lies on the Elbe, with Dessau-Roslau to the west, the Framing River to the north, the Dübenheide to the south and the Elbe-Elster-Land to the east, about 100 kilometers southwest of the federal capital Berlin and about 70 km north, km - northeast of Leipzig. As one of the most important political, cultural-historical and artistic centers in Germany, Wittenberg achieved outstanding importance in the 16th century: the town church of St. Marion, the castle church, the Luther House and the Melanchthon House have always been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
The first reliable mention of a direct application to today's urban area dates from the year 973/1004. The theses door of the Castle Church, no longer original due to damage in the Seven Years' War in 1760, but a replica from 1858. In 1517, Martin Luther's 95 tracts were attached to the entrance of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, which is generally regarded as the beginning of the Reformation.

Die erste zuverlässige Erwähnung einer direkten Anwendung auf das heutige Stadtgebiet stammt aus dem Jahr 973/1004. Thesentür der Schlosskirche, wegen Beschädigung im Siebenjährigen Krieg 1760 nicht mehr original, sondern Nachbau von 1858 1517 wurden die 95 Traktate Martin Luthers am Eingang der Wittenberger Schlosskirche angebracht, die allgemein als Beginn der Reformation gilt.

Ulm (2023) is a city in Baden-Württemberg, Germany and the birthplace of Albert Einstein. Ulm is located on the river Danube on the border of Bavaria and is the administrative seat of the Alb-Donau region (Stadtkreis). The city was a free Reichsstadt (free imperial city) and became very rich in the Middle Ages as it was situated halfway Stuttgart and Munich ( München) situated on the river Danube on the border with Bavaria.
Ulm has a of more than 130,000 and forms a metropolitan region of its own (German: Stadtkreis). Moreover, it is the administrative seat of the Alb-Donau district. Ulm is world known for having the highest and tallest steeple in the world with 162m (or 530 ft) and the Gothic Minster (Ulmer Münster).

Wittenberge | ???? Historischer Lokschuppen
Der historische Lokschuppen in Wittenberge existiert seit 10 Jahren. Er wird unterhalten vom Verein Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V.. Das Bahnbetriebswerk blickt dabei zugleich auf eine lebendige 160 jährige Geschichte zurück. 1846 wurde der erste Lokschuppen auf dem Gelände in Wittenberge in Betrieb genommen, 1872 ein weiterer. Zwischen beiden bestehenden Schuppen ein weiterer mit Ringscheibe, der heute den Hauptbereich des historischen Lokschuppen bildet. Zwei Wassertürme und weitere Werkstätten ergänzen das Gelände, welches 1915 seine maximale Ausdehung hatte. In den 1960'er Jahren erreichte das Gelände den Höhepunkt mit 1000 beschäftigten Eisenbahnern und 150 Lokomotiven, die hier beheimatet waren. In den 1990'er Jahren verlor der Schuppen seine Bedeutung und wurde 1997 geschlossen. 2012 gelang es dann mit Fördermitteln die Pforten wieder zu öffnen. (Quelle:

The historic locomotive shed in Wittenberge has existed for 10 years. It is maintained by the association Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V.. At the same time, the locomotive depot can look back on a lively 160-year history. In 1846, the first locomotive shed was put into operation on the site in Wittenberge, followed by another one in 1872. Between the two existing sheds, another one with a ring shed, which today forms the main area of the historic locomotive shed. Two water towers and other workshops complete the site, which reached its maximum extent in 1915. In the 1960's the site reached its peak with 1000 railroaders employed and 150 locomotives housed here. In the 1990's the shed lost its importance and was closed in 1997. Then in 2012, with funding, it managed to reopen the gates.

Tour Brandenburg - Von Ferchesar nach Wittenberge (...Finale, einfach schön...)
Wir haben wieder etwas Urlaub und können unsere #TourBrandenburg fortsetzen. Zu unserer großen Freude haben die Campingplätze wieder geöffnet. Also sind wir jetzt mit Zelt unterwegs. Es entfällt die tägliche Bahnreise! Hurra!
Am vierzehnten Tag starteten wir unsere Schlußetappe vom Campingplatz Buntspecht in Ferchesar und radelten weiter auf dem #HavelRadweg. Durch eine fast durchgängig schöne Landschaft ging es in Richtung Hansestadt Havelberg, dann am #ElbeRadweg zum Zielort Wittenberge. Da auch das Wetter wieder mitspielte war bis zum Schluß alles wunderbar.
Eben „…Finale; einfach schön…“.
Was erwartet Euch in dieser Folge? Die Erkenntnis, dass „Havelberge“ in meinem Wortschatz anscheinend „Hansestadt Havelberg“ bedeutet. Die Havelberge liegen natürlich weiter in Berlin!
Wir stellen aber auch fest, dass die Stadt Havelberg nicht nur ihren ersten Namensteil zu Recht trägt, sind Teil eines zweiten Frühstücks mit Lebendfutter, reden über Körperglanz und riesengroße Eisbecher, besuchen Lady Agnes und erfahren einiges über Otto Lilienthal, fahren durch einen kuhlen Ort und am letzten Klo für 10 km vorbei. Und das alles mit sitzender Frisur. Napoleon taucht übrigens auch kurz auf.
Kopfsteinpflaster kommt auch diesmal nicht vor. Wir haben es aber auch nicht wirklich vermisst.
