Nelspoort, Station and Town (With an abandoned mental institution thrown in)

Looking for #PlacesToSee, be sure to include the little town of #Nelspoort. Have a friendly chat to the folks over at the railway station's remaining houses. Just a few km's away is the town. Wander around and you'll find some really interesting stories of days gone by. Pay the abandoned mental illness ward a visit. Some very cool images up for grabs here!

S1 – Ep 331 – Riebeeck East – The Standout Landmark was the Breathtaking Church!

Our recent visit to the small town of Riebeeck East was an exhilarating adventure filled with unique experiences. As we embarked on a journey along a seldom-travelled gravel road , we found ourselves immersed in a sense of exploration and discovery. The route took us through a game reserve and over a majestic mountain, treating us to awe-inspiring views from the Kalmoesfontein Pass. Arriving in Riebeeck East during the late afternoon, time was limited, but we made the most of it. The town greeted us with its tranquil ambiance as the sun began its descent. The standout landmark was the breathtaking church, showcasing remarkable architecture that left us in awe. The serene roads further added to the town's charm and peaceful atmosphere. With the sun setting, we made our way to our accommodation for a rainy night, eager to rest and rejuvenate for the adventures that awaited us the following day, after an early breakfast. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #easterncape #riebeeckeast #kalmoesfonteinpass

Ep. 8: Camping at Bundu River Lodge / Traveling and camping in South Africa - Free State

Welcome to Episode 8.
I continue to travel and camp in South Africa, for now focusing on central SA.
In this episode I visit Bundu River Lodge on the banks of the Sand River.
Bundu River Lodge is next to the N1 between Winburg and Ventersburg.
If you are looking for a quiet camp site with a farm atmosphere I can recommend it.
You can go camping without breaking the bank, because their tariffs are reasonable.

S1 – Ep 360 – Winburg – Incredible History with a Profound Sense of Connection!

Our visit to Winburg was an incredible experience filled with a blend of historical charm. Arriving in the town, we bought a delightful meal before the sun dipped below the horizon, preventing us from exploring the town fully. Our lodging, nestled on a farm a short distance beyond the town's borders, was a true gem that held echoes of a rich heritage. The farm's allure was steeped in history. The next morning, we embarked on a journey to uncover some of the treasures of the town. The awe-inspiring churches and the elegant old stone buildings stood as testaments to Winburg's architectural legacy. Driving through the wide streets, we caught sight of endearing houses that seemed to have sprung from a storybook. Our adventure led us to the remarkable Voortrekker Monument with a great story. A majestic structure that, even though its gates were closed, left an indelible impression on us. The grandeur of the Rietfontein Dam left us breathless. Exploring the time-honoured graveyard unveiled a glimpse into the past, with one of the oldest graves we've encountered during our travels thus far. The captivating history of Winburg wove a tapestry of intrigue, enriching our visit with a profound sense of connection to the past. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #freestate #winburg

DRIVING from SENEKAL to WINBURG in SOUTH AFRICA 4K (60fps)

Thanks to advanced AI technology, I'm able to present to my viewers FRONT & SIDE views from my camera of my drive from Senekal Town to Winburg Town in SOUTH AFRICA *10 OCTOBER 2023*

SENEKAL TOWN
Senekal is a town situated on the banks of the Sand River in the eastern part of the Free State province of South Africa.
It is the second largest town in Setsoto Municipality after Ficksburg, the largest town and capital of Setsoto. Senekal lies on the N5 national road between Winburg on the west and Bethlehem to the east.
Farming around Senekal plays a vital role in the economy of the province and country at large. Produce includes maize, sunflower, wheat, milk and livestock.

WINBURG TOWN
Winburg is a small mixed farming town in the Free State province of South Africa.
It is the oldest proclaimed town (1837) in the Orange Free State, South Africa and thus along with Griquastad, one of the oldest settlements in South Africa located north of the Orange River.
It is situated where the N1 National Highway (which goes north to Johannesburg and south to Cape Town) meets the N5 National Route (which goes east to Harrismith). The nearest city, Bloemfontein, is 120 km away southwards via the N1 Highway.

Voortrekker Monument Pretoria, South Africa Urban Rural Travel Adventures

Urban Rural Travel Adventures visits The Voortrekker Monument which is located just south of Pretoria in South Africa. This massive granite structure is prominently located on a hilltop, and was raised to commemorate the Voortrekkers who left the Cape Colony between 1835 and 1854.

Please like and subscribe and feel free to comment!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The main entrance of the building leads into the domed Hall of Heroes. This massive space, flanked by four huge arched windows made from yellow Belgian glass, contains the unique marble Historical Frieze which is an intrinsic part of the design of the monument. It is the biggest marble frieze in the world. The frieze consists of 27 bas-relief panels depicting the history of the Great Trek, but incorporating references to every day life, work methods and religious beliefs of the Voortrekkers. The set of panels illustrates key historical scenes starting from the first voortrekkers of 1835, up to the signing of the Sand River Convention in 1852. In the centre of the floor of the Hall of Heroes is a large circular opening through which the Cenotaph in the Cenotaph Hall can be viewed.

The Cenotaph, situated in the centre of the Cenotaph Hall, is the central focus of the monument. In addition to being viewable from the Hall of Heroes it can also be seen from the dome at the top of the building, from where much of the interior of the monument can be viewed. Through an opening in this dome a ray of sunlight shines at twelve o'clock on 16 December annually, falling onto the centre of the Cenotaph, striking the words 'Ons vir Jou, Suid-Afrika' (Afrikaans for 'We're for you, South Africa'), a line from 'Die Stem van Suid-Afrika'. The ray of light symbolises God's blessing on the lives and endeavors of the Voortrekkers. 16 December 1838 was the date of the Battle of Blood River, commemorated in South Africa before 1994 as the Day of the Vow.

The Cenotaph Hall is decorated with the flags of the different Voortrekker Republics and contains wall tapestries depicting the Voortrekkers as well as several display cases with artifacts from the Great Trek. Against the northern wall of the hall is a niche with a lantern in which a flame has been kept burning ever since 1938. It was in that year that the Symbolic Ox Wagon Trek, which started in Cape Town and ended at Monument Hill where the Monument's foundation stone was laid, took place.

At the foot of the Monument stands Anton van Wouw's bronze sculpture of a Voortrekker woman and her two children, paying homage to the strength and courage of the Voortrekker women.  On both sides of this sculpture black wildebeest are chiseled into the walls of the Monument. The wildebeest symbolically depicts the dangers of Africa and their symbolic flight implies that the woman, carrier of Western civilization, is triumphant.

Ermelo is an agricultural and mining, as well as commercial and education town in the Gert Sibande District Municipality of the Mpumalanga province of South Africa.

Situated 210 km east of Johannesburg, covering an area of 47.6 square km is home to an approximately 100 000 inhabitants.

S1 – Ep 337 – Cathcart – The Biltong Capital of South Africa!

Our visit to Cathcart was an adventurous journey, navigating a rugged and rocky gravel road from Hogsback. Despite the bumpy ride, the scenery along the way was breathtaking. On this road, we stumbled upon the magnificent Sam Meyer Dam with its grandeur captivating us so much that I couldn't resist capturing it with my drone. Upon reaching Cathcart, we were delighted to discover that this town held the title of being the Biltong Capital of South Africa. Our first order of business was to get some authentic, fatty biltong, and true to its reputation, it satisfied our taste buds with its delectable flavour. Cathcart revealed its rich history through its charming old buildings, monuments and churches. While the main station building had been destroyed, we thought the goods shed was still in use, although we weren't sure. Another highlight was our visit to the Bus Yard Art, where we marvelled at the incredible creations fashioned out of scrap metal by a talented artist. It was a testament to the transformative power of art and left us in awe of the artist's ingenuity and creativity. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #easterncape #cathcart

Exploring a small South African Town.

After quitting our jobs and starting YouTube fulltime, our first destination was South Africa, our very own home country. We will not be here for long but while we are here, we would like to show you what it's like in a small town in South Africa.

We explored Hartbeespoort, a small town about an hour away from south Africa's main city, Johannesburg. Hartbeespoort is situated along side the Magaliesburg mountain which is one of the largest mountain ranges in South Africa and decided to hike up the mountain to show you how beautiful South Africa is.

After hiking the mountain and exploring a cave, we moved over to an upside down house in Hartbeespoort. This Upside Down house is pretty cool and unique and definitely a tourist attraction.

We then moved on to the Lion and Safari Park here in Hartbeespoort where we got to touch and play with a 13 month year old giraffe for free, usually one has to pay to do such things but not here.

We will still explore South Africa in future episodes so stay tuned.

S1 – Ep 380 – Vryheid – A Truly Memorable and Delightful Visit!

Our visit to Vryheid was unexpectedly filled with rich history and significant battle sites that truly surprised us. Arriving late in the afternoon, we managed to explore the captivating Carnegie Library and the Lucas Meijer Museum, both of which left us thoroughly fascinated. After grabbing some evening provisions, we retreated to our accommodation on a picturesque farm. The following morning, we paid our respects at the Khambula battle site, a sombre reminder of the lives lost. Then, we marvelled at the town's architectural gems, with the 1891 church leaving us in awe of its remarkable preservation. Vryheid turned out to be a truly memorable and delightful visit. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #kwazulunatal #vryheid
