12 Most Beautiful Towns in the UK to Visit

What are the most beautiful towns in the United Kingdom? Just one visit to the UK can never be satisfying. Brits have a lot of great illustrious and epic places to visit. The country is full of beautiful, breathtaking, and magical locations. The challenge is where to find those locations. You will realize that the country is dotted with the most beautiful towns. Once your gaze is fixed on those places, you wouldn’t want to spend just an hour in big-hitting and popular places like London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and even York before you head straight to attractive towns nestle in the nooks and crannies of the country. To help you identify some of these, we present in this video, the 12 most beautiful towns in the UK to visit.
12. Bangor, Northern Ireland
We will take you first to Northern Ireland, the region of the UK least often regarded. And we’re looking at the town of Bangor. We have to quickly tell you that this is the only town in Northern Ireland on this list and it’s in County Down.
This is a scenic seaside town that, kind of, puts the rest of Northern Ireland to shame with its extraordinary beauty as we discovered. The town whose name means “horned curve,” likely taken after the shape of Bangor Bay, had become a famous seaside resort during the 19th century for Victorian holidaymakers. Adding to the beauty of this town are many of its ancient architecture.
11. Painswick, England
It’s now the turn of Painswick, a town in the Stroud District in Gloucestershire. We reckon with Painswick as the loveliest village in Cotswolds. But prettiness doesn’t end there; it’s rated high among the prettiest towns in the UK. This town established itself during the historic wool trade boom. It’s now known as the Queen of the Cotswolds because of its heritage architecture and unique landscapes. The town, with its stone buildings and magical topiary trees, is packed with beauty as one of the most picturesque towns in the UK. Visitors admire the streets of Cotswold Stone houses and cottages. The stunning Rococo Garden opening in warmer months makes that season memorable.
10. Sandwich, England
The next is Sandwich, a historic town in the Dover District of Kent in southeast England. The civil parish lies on the River Stour. Its many original medieval buildings and several public houses listed in the old town walls, almshouses, and the White Mill are among the beautifiers of this town. The attractive town which was a major port is now more than 3 kilometers from the sea no thanks to the disappearance of the Wantsum Channel. Still, its historic center has been preserved. Those visiting this rustic, and romantic town described as the completest of the medieval towns in Britain are bound to see a lot of historic sites and attractions.
9. Cirencester, England
Cirencester, a market town in Gloucestershire, is known as the capital of Cotswolds. This town is also steeped in fascinating history. Lying on the River Churn, it is on the tributary of the River Thames. As the largest town in Cotswolds, it has to its west Cirencester Park. It is the seat of Earl Bathurst and also the site of one of the country’s finest landscape gardens, laid out by Allen Bathurst, First Earl Bathurst after 1714. There are also Abbey House, Roman Amphitheater, and other ancient yet beautiful locations.
8. Portree, Scotland
This is the first and only Scottish town on this list of the 12 most beautiful towns in the UK. Nestled in rolling hills surrounded by waterfalls, Portree has many quaint colorful cottages. There are plenty of places to wine and dine in this largest town on the Isle of Skye, which doubles as its capital, in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. The harbor is open for business in this Scottish gem. If you’re planning a visit, this is an area to have a bigger exploration of Skye. Among the places tourists consider to count this island worthy of their visits are the Old Man of Storr, the impressive beauty of Quaraing, and Kilt Rock.

Places to see in ( Whitby - UK )

Whitby is a seaside town in Yorkshire, northern England, split by the River Esk. On the East Cliff, overlooking the North Sea, the ruined Gothic Whitby Abbey was Bram Stoker’s inspiration for “Dracula”. Nearby is the Church of St. Mary, reached by 199 steps. The Captain Cook Memorial Museum, in the house where Cook once lived, displays paintings and maps. West of town is West Cliff Beach, lined with beach huts.

Whitby is a seaside town, port and civil parish in the Borough of Scarborough and English county of North Yorkshire. It is located within the historic boundaries of the North Riding of Yorkshire. Situated on the east coast of Yorkshire at the mouth of the River Esk, Whitby has an established maritime, mineral and tourist heritage. Its East Cliff is home to the ruins of Whitby Abbey, where Cædmon, the earliest recognised English poet, lived.

Tourism started in Whitby during the Georgian period and developed further on the arrival of the railway in 1839. Its attraction as a tourist destination is enhanced by its proximity to the high ground of the North York Moors National Park, its Heritage Coastline and by its association with the horror novel Dracula. Jet and alum were mined locally. Whitby Jet, which was mined by the Romans and Victorians, became fashionable during the 19th century.

The earliest record of a permanent settlement is in 656, when as Streanæshealh it was the place where Oswy, the Christian king of Northumbria, founded the first abbey, under the abbess Hilda. The Synod of Whitby was held there in 664. In 867, the monastery was destroyed by Viking raiders. Another monastery was founded in 1078. It was in this period that the town gained its current name, Whitby (from white settlement in Old Norse). In the following centuries Whitby functioned as a fishing settlement until, in the 18th century, it developed as a port and centre for shipbuilding and whaling, the trade in locally mined alum, and the manufacture of Whitby jet jewellery.

The abbey ruin at the top of the East Cliff is the town's oldest and most prominent landmark. Other significant features include the swing bridge, which crosses the River Esk and the harbour, which is sheltered by the grade II listed East and West piers. The town's maritime heritage is commemorated by statues of Captain Cook and William Scoresby, as well as the whalebone arch that sits at the top of the West Cliff. The town also has a strong literary tradition and has featured in literary works, television and cinema, most famously in Bram Stoker's novel Dracula.

WHITBY | The ultimate seafront tour of Whitby

Welcome to Whitby in North Yorkshire, England. This seaside town is famous for it's town, Whitby Abbey and Dracula, but what is the town and seafront like? Is there a Whitby Beach? We find out.
Also watch our tour of Scarborough beach -

We visit Whitby for a wander along the seafront, harbour and beach, with a walk through Whitby Town Centre too to have a look at the things to see and places to go in Whitby when you're on your seaside holiday here.

People come from all the world to visit Whitby UK. With it's picturesque harbour, and it's steep steps leading up to the Abbey and of course the beautiful beaches, piers and historic streets, it's easy to recommend a holiday in Whitby England.

We start at the railway station and head down New Quay Road passing the famous Trenchers Fish and Chips restaurant. There's a huge debate as to what is the best fish and chips in Whitby. It seems to be a close tie between Trenchers and The Magpie Fish and Chips Restaurant although we'd also add Fishermans Wife into the mix

From Trenchers we can see The Endeavour Experience ship docked in the harbour. Well worth a visit on your day trip or Whitby Holiday.

Coming round New Quay Road we can see all the various boat trips that travel from here out to sea and back with amazing views of Whitby and the North Yorkshire Coast. The boat trips here include Yorkshire Coast Boat Trips, Whitby's Old LIfeboat Trips and the Black Pearl Pirate Boat Trips.

You can also head out to sea on a fishing trip courtesy of LibbyFishing or Tilly-Mae Whitby Fishing Trips.

Further along we come to the star of the show in the harbour, Whitby Bridge. The bridge crosses the River Esk and lifts and opens for ships to pass underneath.

We then head into the streets of Whitby Town along Sandgate, Bridge Street and Church Street and pop into Abbey Wharf in the shadow of Whitby Abbey that looms down from the top of the 199 steps (that I didn't attempt on this trip!)

Many people mistake The Church Of St Mary (or St Mary's Church) with Whitby Abbey when they look up the cliffside. It's actually mostly the church you can see from the town and harbour with the Abbey tucked away behind it.

Coming back along the seafront we head along St Anne's Staith and Haggersgate where we see The Dracula Experience, a spooky guided walk through the world of Dracula which is heavily linked to the town courtesy of Bram Stoker's novel.

Our Whitby Tour then continues along Pier Road, past Quayside and Harrys Lounge and past the famous Magpie Cafe fish and chips restaurant.

Above us us the Khyber Pass and the Whalebone Arch replica of a whales jaw bone that stands next to the Captain Cook Memorial outside the Royal Hotel.

Whitby Bandstand looks out to the River Esk and out to sea and close by are some of the amazing artwork and statues that have been installed recently that I really love.

No Whitby Holiday can be complete without a walk past the Gun Battery and Fisherman's Wife and down onto Whitby Beach for a walk along the sandy beach or a paddle in the sea. Here you will find lighthouses and donkeys for donkey rides as well as the waves of the sea lapping onto the beach.

You can also see Sandsend from here up the North Yorkshire Coast if you look hard enough.

But we wanted to finish this Whitby Walking Tour in style with an amazing view of the town from the pier so we make the journey along West Pier (With East Pier opposite) and along to one of the two lighthouses before ending our seaside tour right out to sea on the underside of the pier, watching the boats come sailing by on the sea.

The views from here at fantastic with views of Whitby Harbour, the town, the abbey, the 199 steps and more.

For your next holiday or day trip I fully recommend to come and visit Whitby England.

Whitby played a huge role in Bram Stoker's famous Gothic vampire novel Dracula. Whitby itelf features in the book and it is the place when Bram Stoker found the name Dracula. The Whitby Abbey over looking the town was used to inspire his writing sessions, the 199 steps and the church play a role in the book.

Alex also tried one of the strangest food combinations the Yorkshire pudding and full English breakfast. This travel vlog we wanted to focus on the Dracula information we had learnt being there. It was our favourite part of this leg of the England road trip.

Spending the day in Whitby, England (not what we expected)

As we make our way through Yorkshire, we are stopping in the coastal town of Whitby, England. This is a place that many of our viewers have suggested we visit and is a popular goth tourist destination as Bram Stoker was inspired by Whitby in his novel Dracula. We are spending the day exploring Whitby, checking out some of the iconic locations, trying fish and chips in the North, and taking in the sunshine on this lovely coastal town. Whitby was not quite what we expected, but we had a wonderful time (even though it was a short day).

We'd love to visit Whitby again and I'm sure there are several places we missed, so please let us know where we should check out next time.
