2022 marks Ellicott City, Maryland's Sestercentennial. It was 250 years ago when the Ellicott brothers arrived in the Patapsco River Valley, and decided to settle in the wild place some folks called ‘the Hollow’. Nestled between what is now Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC, the settlement would grow to become the preeminent town within the Patapsco Valley – birthplace of the Nation's industrial revolution!
EC250 is proud to take viewers on this tour of the HOward COunty Historical Society's nw Mill Town to City exhibit on display at the Howard County Welcome Center. The exhibit depicts the transformation of the early mill town of Ellicott Mills to present day Ellicott City via a collection of photographs, ephemera, and displays from the Historical Society's archive collection.
Mill Town to City is free and open to public through 2022 as part of the town's sestercentennial celebration. The Howard County Welcome Center is located at 8267 Main Street in Ellicott City and is open from 10AM - 5PM, Wednesday through Sunday.
