Places to see in ( Kansas City - USA )

Places to see in ( Kansas City - USA )

Kansas City sits on Missouri's western edge, straddling the border with Kansas. It's known for its barbecue, jazz heritage and fountains. Downtown, the American Jazz Museum shares a building with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in the historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, with giant shuttlecocks out front, houses nearly 40,000 works of art, from ancient to contemporary collections.

Kansas City is a city that tends to hide itself from tourists. Having reportedly more boulevards than Paris and more fountains than any other city in the world except for Rome, it is a beautiful city, too. Two neighboring cities sharing the same name: Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO. They are known locally as KCK (verbally expressed as each letter) and KCMO (verbally expressed as letters K then C then the sound of the last two letters together, sounding like the word mow). Kansas City, Missouri is the predominant city of the metropolitan area.

The suburbs are largely south of the central city, though the area north of the Missouri River (known locally as the Northland) is beginning to experience growth similar to the south. Numbering of east/west streets begins at the Missouri River with the east/west division occurring at Main Street. Westport is around 40th St., the Plaza at 47th St., Brookside at 55th, and Waldo beginning around Gregory (71st St.).

Downtown Kansas City is generally defined as the areas including the River Market, the central business district (the Loop), the Crossroads Arts District, Crown Center and Union Station. A visitor enters Midtown when they cross 31st Street. A largely residential area, it is the largest single named neighborhood in the city, and actually includes a number of smaller neighborhoods, like Hyde Park, Squire Park, Sheraton Estates, Ivanhoe, Coleman Highlands, Roanoke, Volker, Westport, Southmoreland, Valentine, North Plaza, and many others.

With its fiery barbecues (100-plus joints smoke it up), bubbling fountains (more than 200; on par with Rome) and blaring jazz, Kansas City may just be the coolest city in America nobody's talking about. It's certainly a don't-miss Great Plains highlight with world-class museums and quirky art-filled neighborhoods that jostle for your attention. You can easily run aground for several days as you tune into the local vibe.

Springs in Missouri

The Show-Me state is blessed with an abundance of clear water springs.
These blue waters surrounded by lush green vegetation, give life to many streams and rivers in the state.
There are over 11-hundred springs in Missouri.
You'll find springs in all regions of Missouri. But the greatest number are located in the Ozarks of central, southern and southwest Missouri.
While there are many springs in Missouri, there are still a lot of questions about these natural wonders that remain unanswered.
What we do know is their waters are cool. They have a constant temperature between 56 and 59 degrees.
A lot of water pours out of them.... millions and millions of gallons each day.
Big Spring near Van Buren is the largest spring in the state.
An average of 275-million gallons of water flows from the spring each day.
And that changes daily depending on the amount of rainfall.
But where does the water come from?
It comes from the surface, down through the soil and rock, and in many cases, the water travels several miles underground, before exiting at a spring outlet.
At Big Spring, some water travels from as far as 50 miles away.
The waters that flow from the springs in Missouri are the source of many streams and rivers and home to some of the most scenic beauty in the Midwest.
It's also home to many interesting plants, animals and fish.
For trout, these waters are the only natural place cool enough for them to survive year-round in the state.
At Bennett Spring near Lebanon, nearly 100 million gallons of water gushes daily from the state's third largest spring,
The stream is stocked daily from March through October and provides excellent fishing for rainbow and brown trout.
Springs also supply water to the state's other trout parks including Montauk near Licking.
An estimated 43 million gallons of water flows daily to form the main headwaters of the Current River.
The springs of Missouri provide a water source for fishing and floating in the state. They are also a drawing attraction for many tourists.
Over the years, they've been used for other purposes.
Some springs in Missouri supplied pioneers with salt.
Where salt was not present, they were used as water supplies.
Years ago, many springs also helped power grist mills to grind grains into flour and corn meal.
Today, only a scattering of mills, like this one at Alley Spring near Eminence can be found.
They also helped supply ideas for names of towns and cities. Over 60 cities have the word spring in their name. From Cedar Springs to Climax Springs; theres Excelsior Springs, Bennett Spring, Sweet Springs, Siloam Spring, Weldon Spring Lake Spring, Edgar Springs, El Dorado Springs and Springfield.

The Largest Suburb of St. Louis and More: O'Fallon & Lake St. Louis, Missouri 4K.

O'Fallon is by far the largest suburb of St. Louis and has continued to be one of Missouri's fastest growing cities. Weldon Spring Conservation Area - Lewis Trail - Park Travel Review

The Lewis Trail in Weldon Spring Conservation Area is an 8-mile trail is a frequent stop for us. We tend to go backwards on the loop for various reasons: fewer crowds, great views sooner, wildlife (none this trek though). One of the best trails in Missouri.

Clark Trail, Weldon Spring Conservation Area - Park Travel Review

The Sunday after Thanksgiving, we hiked the Clark Trail in Weldon Spring Conservation Area. The Clark trail is a 5.3 mile trail on the bluffs of the Missouri River.
The Missouri Department of Conservation's website says this about the area: Weldon Spring Conservation Area is in St. Charles County, near the town of Weldon Spring. The area is named after John Weldon, who came to this region in 1796 with a Spanish Land Grant for 425 acres. This acreage included the spring after which Weldon Spring is named.

During World War II, the federal government acquired almost 17,000 acres in the area for the construction of a munitions plant. In 1948, all of the property, except the munitions plant, was given to the University of Missouri for an agricultural experiment station. The original purchase by the Conservation Department from the University of Missouri was in 1978 for 7,230 acres. The current acreage for Weldon Spring Conservation Area is 8,398.

The acreage is divided into a very diverse array of habitats and natural features. The floods of 1993 and 1995 deposited sand over almost 1,000 acres of agricultural fields. This unique habitat provides almost 1,000 acres of valuable breeding, foraging, and nesting habitat for a variety of birds as well as habitat for other wildlife and invertebrate species.

The Weldon Spring Hollow Natural Area is 385 acres of upland and bottomland forest and rugged river breaks topography. Natural features include limestone cliffs and bluff escarpments. Another notable resource which is accessible from the Weldon Spring Conservation Area is the Katy Trail State Park. It passes through Weldon Spring Conservation Area and parallels the Missouri River for 5.3 miles.

At Happy Trails Hiking, we encourage you to live the life you love and seek solace and adventure in America’s Parks and Public Lands. We strive to motivate and inspire people through travel as well as fitness and nutrition.

This is Big Crazy John with Big Crazy Outdoor Adventures this is the TimeWarp of the Clark Trail at Weldon Springs Conservation Area in St. Charles County Missouri near St. Louis Missouri.  TimeWarp is a feature of the Go Pro Hero 7 that takes a highly stabilized smooth TimeLapse video.

Description Per:
Trailhead is well marked off Hwy 97. Well-maintained gravel parking lot holds 12-15 vehicles. Picturesque view of the Missouri River at about the half way point. A Boy Scout Eagle project provides a lovely wooden bench to sit on to enjoy the view. If you intend to do the shorter Clark Trail, watch carefully for markers around 2.5 miles. Markers are a little hard to see. We encountered many hikers with dogs on a leash, as well as several trail runners.
