Beware of THIS in New Zealand!

Did you expect this in New Zealand? When you come to New Zealand, you'll be shocked to see gangs. Gangs in New Zealand are so unafraid of the Police that they ride obnoxiously loud motorcycles so you can hear them a mile away.

They even wear a uniform which includes a gang patch, so you know which gang they're from.

This is how open and obvious organised crime is in New Zealand. And for visitors like my wife, it's shocking.

If you stay away from them, they won't bug ya. But the reality is gangs are known for the drug trade, murder, theft, violence against women, and the list goes on.

There are numerous gangs in New Zealand, of varying criminality, organisation and ethnicity, including outlaw motorcycle gangs, street gangs and ethnically based gangs. A chapter of the Hells Angels motorcycle club was formed in Auckland in 1961, the first Hells Angels chapter outside the US.

Soon after, the Mongrel Mob formed in Hastings and Wellington, developing into a predominantly Māori and Pacific Islander gang and having the largest membership in the country.

Through the 1960s and 1970s, other outlaw motorcycle clubs and ethnically based gangs formed, including another predominantly Māori gang, Black Power (not related to the African-American movement), which grew to rival the Mongrel Mob. from Wikipedia.

???? Kayaking in Taranaki - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – Backpacker Guide New Zealand

Day 43: Today we are kayaking in Taranaki! We are taking a kayak tour to Sugar Loaf Islands in New Plymouth with Canoe & Kayak and then checking out the studio at Cruize FM.

Yesterday - Day 42 -

Tomorrow – Day 44 –

About this video:

Today we are in the Taranaki city of New Plymouth and we are heading over to Canoe & Kayak Taranaki to do a kayaking trip over to the Sugar Loaf Islands.

After getting set up with all the gear, we head down to the beach and harbour in New Plymouth, have a quick lesson, then get into the water with Canoe & Kayak Taranaki.

We follow our Canoe & Kayak Taranaki guide over to the Sugar Loaf Islands from New Plymouth in Taranaki which only takes us about 30 minutes. We have views of the city and Mt Taranaki along the way.

When we reach the Sugar Loaf Islands, we see some New Zealand fur seals, as well as hear about the fascinating Maori history surrounding the Sugar Loaf Islands and the whole Taranaki area.

We play and paddle around the Sugar Loaf Islands then head back toward New Plymouth. Tonight, we are invited to record a commercial for a local Taranaki radio station, Cruise FM, for the Ducks & Drakes Backpackers.

So what do you think about kayaking in Taranaki? Is kayaking in Taranaki something you would do?

The Waitara Branch Railway 2018

#WaitaraBranch #WaitaraRailway #WaitaraLine A short passenger train travels from Waitara to Lepperton Junction and return in Taranaki, New Zealand.

The Waitara Railway Preservation Society was formed in 1999 to operate a heritage railway over the former 7.2 Km (4 1/2 M) Waitara Industrial Branch Line. The line was opened on the 14th of October 1875 as part of the New Plymouth - Waitara Railway. The railway was built to give merchants from New Plymouth township easy access the coastal trading vessels at Waitara's river wharves. Cargo was only transferable to and from the ships at New Plymouth by surf boats. In 1884 New Plymouth opened its own deep water port after the large breakwater construction had been completed.

Waitara found itself on the end of a branch line early in it's history, when the growing rail network connected at Lepperton making that location a Junction. However, industries grew along the branch making it an important transport link within the district. Passenger services were withdrawn in 1946. The line was was relayed with 91lb rail when the network was slowly upgraded. In 1997, railfreight services were withdrawn as freight volumes had fallen away after the 1995 closing of the Waitara Freezing Works. The few remaining rail-served industries could not keep the line viable. The line could not generate the long rakes of container wagons that the railfreight company was favouring in the modern era.

The Waitara Railway Preservation Society certainly has a senic line passing through urban and rural settings. The line features a good gradient, a bridge, an underpass and several level-grade crossings. The preservation society has pieced together a roster of small shunting locomotives and passenger cars. Their out-door depot is midway along the line. There is great scope for development along the line especially at the Waitara terminus.

Videoed on Easter Sunday 2018, we begin at the end of a track that used to curve further around to the river wharves. Locomotive DSC 2584 will propell the train to Lepperton. The train passes the site of the old Waitara Station and goods yard and climbs out of the river basin. Near the top of the grade, the line passes underneath State Highway Three. Up on the flat, a crossing keeper signals the train through the gate to the preservation society's Waitara Road base. Here, the former Tahora station has been relocated to Waitara Road. A stop at the station was not included in the experience. The train continues on, gently descending down to the Waiongana Stream Bridge, before climbing up to meet the Marton - New Plymouth Railway at Lepperton Junction. The train does not enter onto the active KiwiRail network. Almost straight away the brakes are recharged and the train procedes back to Waitara with the locomotive leading.

DSC 2584 was built in 1966 in New Zealand's Addington Workshops and passed into the preservation society's care in 2003.

Exploring Stewart Island By Plane (New Zealand's Third Island)

Stewart Island is the southernmost populated place in New Zealand and Oceania, and one of the southernmost in the world. In this video, I purchase a ticket on an 8 seater plane and fly from Invercargill Airport to the island to explore what it has to offer in the village of Oban as well as taking a ferry to Ulva Island and back to hike around Rakiura National Park.

Attempting this new style of commentary based video. The travel films will continue though with many planned over the coming weeks.

Filmed in May 2021. Produced in 2022.

Taranaki New Zealand

Taranaki New Zealand or commonly called Taranaki Like No Other. One of the most beautiful places to visit in New Zealand where the mountain and sea are so close. Everywhere you go you get a beautiful view of Mt Taranaki.

We started our little adventure in Breakwater Bay, situated right next to Port Taranaki and at the beginning, or the end of the now famous coastal walkway that stretches from New Plymouth to the eastern end side of Bell Block Beach. A total of 13.2km. The grade is easy. The walkway is paved, with some gentle slopes. It is excellent for walking, running, cycling, skateboarding, skating and scooting. Most people would be able to walk 4 - 6km/hr on the Coastal Walkway.
Breakwater Bay was a fun place to stop with the children, playground, lots of grass area, beach and an ice cream truck, they couldn't be happier!
We didn't do the full coastal walkway but we stopped in to see the stunning Rewa Rewa Bridge that joins the New Plymouth and Bell Block part of the walkway and carries a significant meaning in respect to the Maori Pa site nearby.
For more information on this area please visit
Next we headed in to New Plymouth township to visit Puke Ariki a museum on the waterfront.
After seeing the mountain glistening away in the background we couldn't help but take a drive up there to take in the views. The ski field was closed this time of year but there was a little bit of snow for the children to play in.
After all that excitement we stopped at the playground at King Edward park in Stratford for a picnic lunch then enjoyed the beautiful Carrington Walkway which had many different aspects to explore, the children had a ball!
While we were down there the Egmont 4WD club was hosting an event so we decided to go along. Check out our next video for more 4x4 fun!
Lastly we visited Pukerangiora, a historical Maori battle site which endured 3 wars. To get to Pukerangiora continue driving 6.5km up Waitara Road. You will see the open site on the left of the battle fields and a car park area just up further. For more information please visit
We will post a more indepth video of this site soon so please subscribe to see this valuable piece of New Zealand Maori history.

Ep45 2023 08 19 waitara loop 300 rally movie

There are times when the only way to clear your head is to drop what you’re doing and go for a good hard ride. And if you live in Napier, the Waitara loop ride has it all. Problem solved. I prefer starting from SH 2 on the Napier Gisborne road at the Lake Tutira store and ride anti clock wise, which brings me out onto SH5 on the Napier Taupo road. Its a cool 120 kilometres and gives a feeling of being in the wilderness. But wait.... there’s more. Go up the Eskdale valley on the Napier Taupo road and take the right turn onto Waipunga Rd just past the church if you want awesome views and more challenges.

Americarna

AMERICARNA is an annual festival of classic American cars, in New Zealand; with a few modern ones as well. Over four days several hundred Chevvys, Cadillacs. Lincolns, Buicks, Mustangs etc drive around the Taranaki region and stop off in Waitara, Inglewood, Stratford, Hawera and finish again in New Plymouth. This is a slightly longer video to capture the scale of the event.

Scenic Drive New Zealand | Going to New Plymouth

This video will show you what scenic drive in New Zealand usually looks like. This is a scenic drive from Rotorua to New Plymouth route.

New Plymouth is a city on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island. New Plymouth’s known for its coastal walkway, Te Rewa Rewa Bridge, the famous Mount Taranaki, the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery shows contemporary exhibitions, Lake Mangamahoe, Egmont National Park Brooklands Park, Brooklands Zoo, Pukekura Park ad so much more! Unfortunately, we did not see the actual Mt Taranaki :( It was cloudy/rainy when we visited New Plymouth. It was such a shame but maybe New Plymouth wants us to come back again :)
