Christmas market in Gelnhausen, 8-11.12.2022
Gelnhausen is charming, small town in Hessen. Full of half-timbered buildings, a huge ruin of the palace where Barbarossa once lived, and a beautiful old church, the Marienkirche, known as the crown jewel of Gelnhausen. Well worth a day trip from Frankfurt any time of they year.
This is a smaller market than what they usually have, but it was cute and the residents were pouring in by 17:00.
Gelnhausen is easy to reach from Frankfurt. Direct trains run twice an hour on their way to Fulday. Ride takes about 30-45 min. Use the RMV website to find prices and times. If you are going to Büdingen, this is the stop where you switch trains.

Büdingen is a town in the Wetteraukreis, in Hesse, Germany. It is mainly known for its well-preserved, heavily fortified medieval town wall and half-timbered houses.
Büdingen is in the south of the Wetterau below the Vogelsberg hills at an altitude of approx. 160 meters. The city is situated 15 km northwest of Gelnhausen and about 40 km east of Frankfurt am Main. Historically, the city belongs to Oberhessen.

Walk Through Hanau Christmas market
The Christmas Market in Hanau is fairly large for a medium-sized city. It is a 2G market, so they will check your vaccine or recovered status and a photo ID to get in.
The Vintage Ferris Wheel is the highlight of the market, but the decorations on top of all the stands add a special touch.
Hanau is about 30 min. away from Frankfurt by train.
There used to be a large military base in Hanau, so for any former military that were once stationed here, I hope this video brings back some fond memories.
