Eastern-Cape South Africa - 2019
In March 2019 I traveled to Elliot in the Eastern Cape to film a traditional Xhosa wedding. It was an incredible experience and it was also the first trip I did with my new Canon EOS R.
After the wedding, my wife and I traveled down to the coast to Port St. Johns in search of chameleons. It was my firs chameleon trip of 2019, and I was looking forward to be out in the field filming again.
The Wild Coast in South Africa is one of the most amazing places in the country, and one of the most iconic scenes to be found here is Nguni cattle on the beaches. I managed to get a few good shots, and decided to make a short film to showcase this incredible landscape and the Nguni cattle.

Découvrez JOHANNESBURG : L'une des Villes les PLUS BELLES de l'AFRIQUE du SUD | 10 FAITS
Connue comme : Jozi, Jobeurg, Johannesburg, Egoli, et la Cité de l'Or, c’est une ville animée et presque pleine à craquer. Cette ville dynamique semble ne jamais être saturée, et est l'une des villes les plus contemporaines d'Afrique du Sud. Aujourd'hui, je vais vous révéler pourquoi cette ville est vraiment un trésor, et pourquoi elle devrait continuer à l'être.
Beaucoup d'entre vous ne le savent peut-être pas (à moins que vous ne connaissiez vraiment vos objets brillants et d'où ils viennent), mais Johannesburg est le plus grand gisement d'or connu au monde. En 1886, de l'or a été découvert dans la petite ville de Johannesburg, dans les crêtes rocheuses connues sous le nom de Witwatersrand (ce qui signifie; la crête des eaux blanches). Johannesburg, bien qu'elle ne soit pas à proximité d'une source d'eau, a réussi à attirer des tas de gens avec la nouvelle de la découverte d'or. À une certaine époque, la région appelée le bassin du Witwatersrand, produisait 40 % de la production mondiale d'or annuelle. Aujourd'hui, Johannesburg compte environ 4 millions d'habitants, ce qui explique pourquoi cette ville fait partie des régions les plus peuplées et urbanisées d'Afrique du Sud.
Avec une estimation de 4 millions d'habitants, Johannesburg est responsable de 16 pour cent du PIB de l'Afrique du Sud (qui est le produit intérieur brut). Cela équivaut au PIB total du Kwazulu-Natal, et aussi de l'ensemble du Guatemala (un pays de l'Amérique du Sud). Johannesburg possède une infrastructure de premier monde, avec un coût de la vie inférieur attendu d'un pays du premier monde, ce qui en fait un environnement de vie et de travail très agréable.
Encore une fois, grâce à la fameuse ruée vers l'or, Johannesburg a maintenant quelque chose d'autre qu'aucune ville au monde n'a. Quelle est la probabilité qu'un engouement pour l'exploitation minière, ait un énorme impact positif sur l'environnement d'une ville ? Pas grand-chose, mais vrai quand même. Johannesburg fait partie d'un biome de savane herbeuse, mais quand on regarde les images satellites de cette ville, on dirait une forêt. Plus d'un million d'arbres ont été plantés dans le but de fabriquer des accessoires pendant la ruée vers l'or, mais bien sûr, de nombreux arbres n'ont pas été utilisés et ont résisté à l'épreuve du temps. Ce n'est que plus tard, en 2006, qu'une initiative de plantation d'arbres a été lancée pour étendre la forêt à Soweto également.
On ne sait pas à cent pour cent d'où Johannesburg tire son nom, mais les responsables de la ville ont déclaré qu'il était dérivé des noms, Johann Friedrich, Bernhard Rissik et Christiaan Johannes Joubert. La confusion du nom avec l'origine du nom, vient du fait qu'il y avait quelques hommes importants avec le nom Johann, qui occupaient des postes d'autorité dans la République du Transvaal, ou qui étaient des personnes clés dans la fondation de la ville. Il a été décidé que Johannesburg porte le nom de Johann Friedrich Bernhard Rissik, et Christiaan Johannes Joubert, parce que c'est sur leur recommandation que le terrain concerné a été déclaré champ aurifère public, alors qu'ils ont également suggéré que la ville soit aménagée, soit sur la ferme Randjeslaagte, ou une partie de la ferme Doornfontein. We had the privilege of doing a tour from Luderitz to Walvisbay in Namibia. The tour consisted of two days travelling from Pretoria South Africa to Luderitz where we met Ramon our guide from Coastway tour. We then spent 5 days in the Namib desert travelling to Walvisbay. We spent a day in Swakopmund doing the living desert tour as well as a boat cruise later the afternoon. The following two days we travelled back to Pretoria, South Africa.

Ons was bevoorreg om ‘n toer van Ludertiz na Walvisbaai in Namibië te doen. Die toer het bestaan uit twee dae se ry van Pretoria na Luderitz waar ons die toergids, Ramon van Coastway Tours ontmoet het. Die volgende 5 dae het ons deur die Namib woestyn getoer tot in Walvisbaai. Ons het daarna ‘n dag deurgebring in Swakopmund waar ons ‘n Living desert tour sowel as ‘n bootrit gedoen het later die middag. Die volgende twee dae het ons weer terug gery na Pretoria.
Die toer was gereël deur André de Villiers (André4x4) van Safari 4x4 Roetes en hy was ook ons gids gewees vir die ander dae op die toer.
