The most visited village in Spain! Guadalest on the Costa Blanca

Guadalest, famous for its rich history, its views and of course its castle. If you like the mix between glorious mountains, a little shopping, food and drink, explore Guadalest with us.
San José Castle is an 11th-century fortress built by the Muslims, located on the rock in the highest part of the city. Thanks to its strategic location, it played a very important role during the Middle Ages and modern times. The earthquakes of 1644 and 1748 and the blast died in 1708 during the War of Succession that followed, were responsible for its destruction. In the corridor between the sierras of Aitana and Xortá we find Guadalest. The well-kept historic quarter, of Arab origin, has been declared a historic-artistic site. It is a good idea to go to the Castle of San José, an 11th century Muslim fortress, which is accessible through a natural tunnel on the rock. From this fort, the visitor has a beautiful view of the surroundings. From the 11th-century castle of La Alcozaina, the only structure that remains is a tower.
In this town we should point out the parish church of Nuestra Señora de Asunción, dating from the 18th century.

Are you looking to buy or to sell a property in Spain? Living a luxury lifestyle here in Costa Blanca? Then you are in the right place.

Spain's MUST see Hidden Gem | Congost de Mont-rebei | Full Time Travel Vlog 11

Subscribe: | Make sure to enable ALL push notifications!

We were so lucky to be recommended hiking Congost de Mont-rebei in Catalonia and it turns out to be our best thing to do in Spain. You can do it on the Aragon side but we explored the Catalonian side. After another night in the car we came to a must see hidden gem in Spain. The hike took in total 8 hours but was worth every step. The blue water of the river running through was breathtaking as was the trek trail itself. This place is so far off the tourist trail and beaten path and collectively we saw about 3 people the whole day. If you want to feel like you are discovering some hidden place like an old fashioned adventurer, this is the one for you. In this Spain travel video we hopefully capture why it is worth coming to Spain for Congost de Mont-rebei alone.

#VILLENA - #FortressesOfSpain - Watchtower Castle 2023

#Villena #CastillosComunidadValenciana

This spectacular fortress was built by the Almohad Empire at the end of the s. XII, as a refuge for the Muslim population of Villena. The inner wall and the first two floors of the homage tower with its imposing vaults, unique in the castles of Spain along with the fortress of Biar, date from this period.

Jaime I conquered the castle in 1240 and, after the signing of the Treaty of Almizra, the Lordship of Villena passed to the domains of the Manuel family, the first feudal lords. In the 14th century, the famous writer Don Juan Manuel, author of El Conde Lucanor, was Prince of Villena. In addition, his second wife, the Infanta Doña Constanza de Aragón, lived in the castle, which forced the first reforms to be carried out. In the 15th century, the castle was ruled by the powerful Pacheco family, Marqueses de Villena, who added two new floors to the tower and built the second wall. In 1476, the Catholic Monarchs snatched the castle from the Pachecos after a harsh siege, from which numerous projectiles remain in the parade ground.

During the following centuries, the castle was the protagonist in the wars of the Germanías, the Succession or the Independence, as shown by the formidable existing artillery impacts and the graffiti on the tower, made by prisoners.
