Vilafranca del Penedès is a municipality in the province of Barcelona in the community of Catalonia, Spain. Capital of the Alto Panadés region, around 40,000 inhabitants. It is situated in the Penedès Depression on the left bank of the Foix River. It is known for its sparkling wines, Catalan cava, and wines from the Penedés designation of origin.
The town was founded in the middle of the 12th century as a result of the decline of Olèrdola, which had been until then the main local centre. Vilafranca is known internationally for its wines : Catalan cava and wines from the Penedès Designation of Origin (DO), with multinational brands such as Bodegas Torres . Apart from wines and cavas, Vilafranca is also known for the Castellers de Vilafranca and its Festa Major, which has one of the oldest dragons in Europe (around 1600) and about twenty dances, snacks and casteller groups.
The Castellers de Vilafranca group was founded in September 1948, by Oriol Rosell, who was its first leader. The beginnings were marked by the achievement of the first castles of seven and by the close relations with the other gangs of the time. During these years, the gang leaders were Oriol Rosell (1948-1952) and Ramon Sala (1953-1955) and the color of the shirt was pink, first, and red, later.

Discover what it's like to experience a winery tour and wine tasting at Codorníu in Penedès Spain - the iconic producer and birthplace of Spanish Cava - the famous Spanish sparkling wine.
Not only do you get to taste some amazing Cavas in the fabulous tasting room, you get to explore the underground cellars, not just on foot, but by train, explore the stunning gardens and the fascinating museum, in what was once the grape pressing room.
The Codorníu winery is also an architectural masterpiece, designed by the modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, and a masterpiece in modernist art. It was declared a National Artistic Historical Monument in 1976. @winekellertravel
Codorníu is the story of 18 generations of a family of vine growers and it reflects the history, tradition, passion and expertise of a family company with more than 450 years of history. The family lived here from 1551 and were responsible for producing sparkling wine and the birth of Cava here in 1872.
Codorníu is located in the 'Cava capital', Sant Sadurni d'Anoia, just 45 minutes outside of Barcelona in Spain's Catalonia region. Two producers dominate the Cava market - Codorníu and Freixenet - both based in San Sadurní d’Anoia and producing some 200 million bottles of Cava between them each year!

Durante el evento de Madrid Otra Mirada, tuve la oportunidad de visitar el Palacio del Marqués de Villafranca por dentro. No es una posibilidad que se presente de manera habitual, pues estos dos edificios no están abiertos al público salvo para ocasiones como la que tuvo lugar en octubre.
Afortunadamente, nos dejaron grabar vídeos en el interior y así se puede mostrar mucho mejor en qué consistió esta visita. La historia ha hecho que la estructura del palacio original haya quedado bastante mermada, pero aún así debo reconocer que hubo cosas que me parecieron totalmente increíbles.
La primera de ellas es el paño de 20 metros que se conserva de la muralla cristiana que en su día defendía Madrid de los invasores. Obviamente no tiene que ver con el palacio en sí mismo, pero es un hito arquitectónico increíble. Y que haya llegado hasta nuestros días en tan buen estado es sencillamente una maravilla.
Pero es que bajando unas escaleras se llega a los llamados viajes de agua, una construcción más antigua aún que la muralla. Y es que nos tenemos que transportar al siglo IX, cuando los árabes vivían en la ciudad, para saber de qué tesoro estamos hablando. Y esa construcción permitía que el agua potable llegara hasta la ciudad.
Luego se sube a la primera planta y se ven diferentes salas, unas más bonitas que otras. Destaca principalmente el Salón de Baile, por su decoración y su lámpara central. El Antiguo Gabinete también es muy bonito, especialmente por todos los elementos de madera que aún se conservan. Y la Escalera de Honor es realmente bonita, pues conserva el estilo palaciego de la época.

El Cercle de Turisme es un entorn de treball cooperatiu públic-privat per a la promoció turística de la província de Barcelona.
