Multan is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Asia, with a history stretching deep into antiquity. The ancient city was the site of the renowned Multan Sun Temple,and was besieged by Alexander the Great during the Mallian Campaign.A historic cultural centre of the wider Punjab, it was conquered by the Ummayad military commander Muhammad bin Qasim.The city later became independent as the capital of the Emirate of Multan in 855 A.D., before subsequently coming under the rule of empires such as the Ghaznavids, the Ghurids and the Mamluks. In 1445, it became capital of the Langah Sultanate. In 1526, it was conquered by the Mughal Empire. Multan Subah would become one of the largest provinces of the Mughal Empire when it was created by administrative reforms of Emperor Akbar. Afterwards, Multan became part of the Durrani and Sikh empires successively. In 1848, it was conquered by the British Empire and became part of British Punjab. After independence, it became part of Pakistan.

History of District Vehari in Urdu:
4364 مربع کلومیٹر ایریا پر پھیلے ضلع وہاڑی کے نام کی دو وجوہات بتائی جاتی ہیں،ایک وجہ یہ ہے کہ سوکھے ہوئے دریائے بیاس کو پہلے مقامی لوگوں نے پہلے ویاس کہا پھر ویاہ کہا اور پھر ویاہ سے وہاڑی ہو گیا،دوسری روایت یہ ہے کہ اب جس جگہ پر باغ والی مسجد ہے زمانہ قدیم میں وہاں پر ایک کریانہ کی دوکان ہوتی تھی تو مقامی خواتین اس دوکاندار کو بلانے کے لیے آواز لگاتی تھیں،'وے ہاڑی'تو اس طرح سے یہ جگہ وہاڑی کہلانے لگی،ضلع وہاڑی ملتان دہلی روڈ پر واقع ہے جسے مشہور مسلمان حکمران شیر شاہ سوری نے تعمیر کروایا تھا،1976 تک ضلع وہاڑی ملتان کی ایک تحصیل تھا،پھر 1 جولائی 1976 کو وہاڑی،بوریوالا اور میلسی کو ملا کر وہاڑی کو ضلع کا درجہ دیا گیا وہاڑی ضلع کی 3 سب تحصیلیں بھی ہیں جن میں گگو منڈی،کرم پور اور جلہ جیم شامل ہیں،اس علاقے کو کپاس کا بادشاہ بھی کہا جاتا ہے،
ضلع وہاڑی کے تاریخی مقامات میں،جامع مسجد باغ والی1962،قلعہ عمر کوٹ،بادشاہی مسجد جلہ جیم جو 1058 میں شہنشاہ اکبر کے دور میں تعمیر کی گئی،اس کے علاوہ میاں پکھی ریسٹ ہاؤس بہت منفرد جگہ ہے جہاں پر انگریزوں نے پنڈت جواہر لال نہرو کو نظر بند کیا تھا،تفریحی مقامات میں ہیڈ اسلام،ہیڈ سیفن،اور 1988 میں بنایا گیا وائلڈ لائف پارک یعنی چڑیا گھر بھی شامل ہے،
ضلع وہاڑی کی تحصیل میلسی کے علاقے سردار پور جھنڈیر میں پاکستان کی سب سے بڑی اور ایشا کی دوسری بڑی لائبریری موجود ہے،میلسی میں موجود قصبہ فتح پور اور جلہ جیم بہت تاریخی اہمیت کا حامل ہے،مشہور شخصیات میں،میجر طفیل محمد شہید،وقار یونس،میاں ممتاز دولتانہ،محمد عرفان ہاکی کھلاڑی سلیم شیروانی،اس کے علاوہ انڈین اداکار راجیش کھنا کا تعلق بھی وہاڑی کی تحصیل بوریوالا سے ہے،ضلع وہاڑی کی تحصیل بوریوالا میں برصغیر کی پہلی روحانی درگاہ قصبہ دیوان صاحب میں موجود ہے،اس کے ساتھ بابا فرید کی چلہ گاہ،بیٹھک بابا گرو نانک،مسجد چار یار شامل ہیں،
کھانوں میں فالودہ،جلیبی اور دہی بڑے بہت ہی مشہور ہیں،
