Vejer de la Frontera is a Spanish municipality located in the province of Cádiz (Andalucía). The core of the town stands on a 200-meter-high mountain, on the banks of the Barbate River and 8 kilometers from the coast.
Its walled historic center, which still preserves the castle and several significant churches, was declared a historic-artistic complex in 1976. Vejer is part of what is known as the 'Association of the Most Beautiful Towns in Spain'.
Vejer has been inhabited since the early Palaeolithic and was already fortified in the Bronze Age. Remains dating from the 7th century BC have been found from Tartessian and Roman times.
Nowadays, the population lives from agriculture (generally viticulture), from wild cattle (especially from the resurgence of the Retinta breed) and from the tourism that it usually receives in summer.

Vejer de la Frontera, Spain: A hidden gem you'll want to visit.
Vejer de la Frontera, in Cadiz, is with no doubt one of the most beautiful and charming villages in Spain, also known as one of the Pueblos Blancos (white villages).
It is located in the south of Spain. The special of this place are the narrow white streets which do contrast with the colorful flowers in the yards, the castle at the top, the views from every corner and the magical ambiance once the sun comes down.

Vejer de la Frontera, Spain - pueblo blanco (white village) of Andalusia
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this charming white town (Pueblos Blancos) that are very common throughout the southern Spain area of Andalusia. Perched high up, they are often visible from the highways far down below. After strolling about, we had a nice lunch before having to head back to our rental apartment in Cadiz.

Vejer de la Frontera is a charming little white-washed, hilltop town near Barbate, Spain and is a splendid little place to either drive through or use as a base of operations when visiting the beautiful Costa de la Luz in Alndalucia Spain.
Over the years it's become more and more of a tourist spot as the hotels and restaurants found in Vejer have all upped their game. If you're looking for the small town feel in Spain, this is a great place to stay.
And you're still literally minutes away from some great beaches, such as Barbate and los Canos de Meca!

Vejer de la Frontera is a Spanish hilltop town and municipality in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia, on the right bank of the river Barbate. The town of Vejer de la Frontera occupies a low hill overlooking the Straits of Gibraltar and surrounded by orchards and orange groves. It contains several ancient churches and convents, and the architecture of many of its houses recalls the period of Moorish rule, which lasted from 711 until the town was captured by Saint Ferdinand of Castile in 1248. Agriculture and fruit-farming are the chief industries; fighting bulls are also bred in the neighborhood[2] and a running of the bulls is held annually. ( Wikipedia)
