Vavuniya Travel | Travel with University Friends | #Vlog 5

Join with us on an exciting journey through the beautiful towns and beaches of Sri Lanka. Starting from my hometown of Divulapitiya, we headed to Kurunegala and then traveled to Trincomalee town, where we were lucky enough to spot an elephant close to Habarana.

We then visited the stunning Koneswaram Temple, located a top a rock overlooking the Indian Ocean, which offered breathtaking views. After the temple, we headed to Marble Beach in Trincomalee to cool off from the hot weather. Although we arrived late and missed the opportunity to swim, we enjoyed the serene waves and beautiful scenery. Nevertheless, we made our way to the longest bridge in Sri Lanka - Kinniya bridge, and enjoyed the stunning scenery. Under the cover of darkness in the unlit forest, we made our way to Vavuniya where we spend the night at a friend's home in Vavuniya.

On the second day, we visited the monument of the final battle and paid tribute to the brave soldiers who gave their lives for the country. We then headed to Karaiyamullivaikal beach, where we were fascinated by the shipwreck remains of the Farah 03 ship. We then headed to Kilinochchi to visit a friend before heading back to Kurunegala.

Our adventure came full circle as we trekked to the iconic Elephant's Rock at Kurunegala before finally returning home after a delightful 3-day journey.

This journey reminded me of the contrast between the past and present, especially during the civil war. It's a humbling experience to visit places that were once hotspots of conflict, and it's important to acknowledge and show gratitude to the brave soldiers who made it safe for everyone.

A special thank you to Thanusha, Lilakshani, and Sangeetha for their hospitality and providing us with a place to stay.

Looking towards the entry point shrouded with trees and shrubs, we felt a sense of foreboding at first. However, laying all our fears aside we started forward, going through the small forest area and finally stumbling to the foot of the rock. Looking up, we saw a Buddhist flag on top of the mountain, marking the spot as an important Buddhist archaeological site. It is believed that Nandimithra, one of the ten giant warriors of King Dutugemunu, used this place as an assembly point for troupes during war times. It is indicated that there is evidence of King Dutugemunu frequenting the area while some believe that the rock also served as a resting spot for weary travellers.

Nature of Sri Lanka ❤️ [North Province]( Vavuniya district )

Between 5th century BC and 13th century AD present day Vavuniya District was part of Rajarata. Vavuniya District was thereafter ruled by Vanniar Chieftains who paid tribute to the pre-colonial Jaffna kingdom. The district then came under Portuguese, Dutch and British control.

UNEXPLORED SIDE of Vavuniya | Solo Sri Lanka Day 8

All these days I thought Vavuniya, Sri Lanka was a dry place but never had I imagined how beautiful it could be.

I had two of my old friends called Abja and Rizky from Vavuniya.
They invited me to their place when they got to know about my #solosrilanka tour.

They hosted me at their place and took me to some places in their region and along with them joined another friend from their neighbourhood.

When they took me to Pavakulam Lake, I was literally amazed by its stunning existence.

So the next day I decided to go have a boat ride on it. Trust me it was one of the nicest things I did during my whole tour.

Craziest thing was those un-realistic clouds above the lake.

Oh man.. on that morning when I had gone to Vel Cafe, for some Thosa, Idly and Wadey (Vegetarian Food) it surprisingly turned out to be a very delicious meal.

How can I not remember the tea... the Vavuniya Vel Cafe condensed milk Ceylon tea it's a must try when you ever pass that way.

Haha finally on that day I was able to buy a shoe.. which I wanted to do from the beginning of my tour.

Oh btw I am the first travel filmmaker in Sri Lanka to ride across the country solo on a bike for 30 days covering 30 destinations.
