Exploring Vashon Island - March 2018
One of the best things about visiting Vashon Island is that you get to take the ferry there and back. Prices can be a little steep… You can spend over $20 for a round trip ticket if you want to take your car over.
It takes about 10 or 15 minutes to cross over from Point Defiance to the southern tip of Vashon You can get out of your car and enjoy the views from the upper deck... well, unless you go on a day like today and it’s super foggy. Killer whales have been sighted on some of these ferry routes to and from the island. But all we saw today were some pooping birds…
Stop #3 was the country store and farm – a cute little shop that sells all sorts of gardening supplies, maps of the island, and some fantastic shirts.
We met a super friendly woman named Jan who told us all about the island and said that our next destination had to be the Snapdragon Café. This little restaurant and bakery is located in the center of the island and is known for their amazing soups and salads.
Well, who were we to say no to Jan? Again, the staff was really friendly and it’s a funky space that smells like freshly baked pastries. Although they are known for their salads, Taylor and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to try their egg sandwich, made with a buttered crescent and tons of gooey cheese.
After Fisher’s Pond we took a leisurely drive to what is probably the most iconic spot on Vashon island.
The Point Robinson Lighthouse has been in use since 1885 and sits on a 10 acre shoreline park. You can get tours of the lighthouse from mid-May through mid-Spetember.

A Day Trip to Vashon Island☀️! Experience Nashi Orchards???????? | Local Lens Seattle
Non-alcoholic beverages seem to be all the rage, so I was pumped to try a new one that just so happens to be LOCAL!????
Welcome to Nashi Orchards on Vashon Island, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary! I got to meet the owners (husband and wife duo) Cheryl Lubbert and perry maker Jim Gerlach, for the launch of their first non-alcoholic line coined the “Hana” series. The first release is a sparkling perry made from 100% Korean Giant Asian pear juice, with no added flavoring. It seriously tastes like Asian pear in a bottle!
I got to sample the new perry along with other classic Nashi ciders, paired with a chef prepared seasonal inspired lunch. It was so fresh and awesome to try the delicious food featuring local produce.
I loved the rustic views with the 1930’s era barn and of course the meandering St Croix sheep????. SO cute!
☀️Travel wise, it’s super easy to get to. Just hopped on the West Seattle ferry⛴ for the quick day trip. The tasting room is open Saturdays and Sundays 12-5 p.m.

Join us as we tour the beautiful Vashon Island.
We switch things up a bit during this wandering as we are on two wheels! We start in North Seattle, ride into West Seattle, and catch the Fauntleroy - Vashon Ferry.
Arriving on Vashon we ride through town and have a refreshment at The Vashon Coffee Roasterie. Then back into town for lunch at the Island Queen.
Then on to Lavender Hill Farm. We finish the tour with a visit to the Point Robinson Lighthouse & leave the island by taking the Tahlequah - Point Defiance ferry.

Today we go on a last-minute trip to Vashon Island. I haven’t heard much about this island before, but since it’s my goal to check out every island possible in Washington State, we explore it! We check out the food scene, go on a nature walk, succumb to buying cool stuff at local shops, try ice cream made just down the street and support farm stands. A heads up: be sure to plan your visit accordingly as many businesses are closed on Monday and Tuesday (some also closed on Wednesday). Watch the full video to see the adventure day unfold!
