Armenia
Country in Asia
Armenia is a nation, and former Soviet republic, in the mountainous Caucasus region between Asia and Europe. Among the earliest Christian civilizations, it’s defined by religious sites including the Greco-Roman Temple of Garni and 4th-century Etchmiadzin Cathedral, headquarters of the Armenian Church. Khor Virap Monastery is a pilgrimage site near Mount Ararat, a dormant volcano just across the border in Turkey. ― Google

Yerevan
Capital of Armenia
Yerevan, Armenia's capital, is marked by grand Soviet-era architecture. The Matenadaran library, housing thousands of ancient Greek and Armenian manuscripts, dominates its main avenue. Republic Square is the city's core, with musical water fountains and colonnaded government buildings. The 1920s History Museum of Armenia on the square's eastern side contains archaeological objects like a circa-3500-B.C. leather shoe. ― Google

#Vanadzor, #Alaverdi, Old #Sanahin Bridge, Pottery House | Patil Toutounjian | The Armenian Traveler

This is part 1 of a 3 part video starting from #Yerevan then #Vanadzor with a visit to #Sanahin old bridge and ending at the Pottery House B&B in Alaverdi.

I am very exicted to announce that I am teaming up with Visit Debed Canyon project to bring you with me to explore the beautiful region in Lori province. Make sure you subscribe to their channels and stay tuned as I will be making a series of videos there as well :)

One of Armenia's most impressive natural landscapes, the Debed Canyon stretches from the city of Vanadzor, the administrative center of Lori province, along the River Debed and all the way up north to the Armenian-Georgian border. The Debed river that flows through the canyon, the winding road running along it, the surrounding mountains and the breathtaking views that open up from their slopes make Debed canyon a popular destination worth visiting in all seasons.

In this episode, we explore the Old Sanahin Bridge Connecting the two banks of the Debed river in the town of Alaverdi, the Sanahin bridge is a remarkable example of medieval Armenian engineering. It was built in the 12th century by the sister of Princes Ivaneh and Zakareh Zakarians, Queen Vaneni, in memory of her late husband. The legend has it that Queen Vaneni built the bridge when she was transporting the body of her husband, who passed away at the age of 19, to the family sepulcher.

Built with polished basalt stones, this arch bridge has a length of 18.6 meters; its middle part is 3.3 meters wide. The bridge was erected in the narrow section of the Debed canyon, where the left bank was lower than the right bank. The four corners of the top part of the bridge's parapet feature high reliefs of lions, a symbol of protection.

The bridge underwent several renovations throughout the 19th-20th centuries. In 1928-1929, the foundations of the left end of the bridge were partially strengthened under the guidance of Alexander Tamanyan, the architect who created the first general plan of Armenia's capital Yerevan.

Later we stay at the Pettery House to continue the overnight adventure!

Vanadzor has entered a new stage of development ․ There are 4 state universities, 10 sports schools, 19 cultural institutions, etc. The churches are inseparable from the description of Vanadzor. In 1826, in the area of the present St. Astvatsatsin Church, preserved on the site of the old khachkars, there was the old church of Gharakilisa, built of black stone, due to which, according to the popular opinion, it was called “black church” by the Turkish invaders. According to the legend related to the etymology of the name, the Turkish Pasha left the army near the church to spend the night, and he spent the night at the mullah’s house. In the morning he saw his army massacred and shouted․ “What a black monastery!” From that day on both the church and the surrounding settlement were called Gharakilisa.

Exploring The Former Soviet Industrial City Of Vanadzor, Armenia

During the time of the Soviet Union, the city of Vanadzor was the centre of all chemical production in Armenia.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, most of the chemical plants have closed but still remain on the western side of the city. Rumours of top-secret work taking place here mean that it is illegal to access the plants and they can only be viewed from the outside.

Vanadzor now serves as a transport hub for northern Armenia as it is situated on the road connecting Georgia and Yerevan. Because of this, the city is slowly recovering from the collapse of the Soviet Union and is beginning to attract tourists.

Join me as I explore one of the Soviet Union's most important industrial cities.

I chose to visit every country on the planet and film them to present them in High Definition format but in a raw way, without music, without comment. Simply, reality in all its truth. Thus, you will be able to make your own idea of the world in which you live.
Currently, I have already visited nearly 170 countries and my world tour continues thanks to you who follow me.
