La capital indigena de Colombia esta a solo hora y media de Rioacha. La ciudad mas grande de los Wayuus esta rodeada de desierto por lo cual su temperatura promedio siempre es caliente. Uribia es un parador requerido para los que viajan al Cabo de la Vela y lugares mas al norte. Aqui se compran las bebidas y comida pues luego sera mas costoso.

El departamento de la Guajira se encuentra ubicado en el noreste de Colombia en la región Caribe. Las zonas desérticas desembocan en el mar Caribe y posee unos paisajes incomparables debido a su diversidad y colores, un destino mágico donde serán testigos de las más antiguas costumbres colombianas, y podrán compartir los secretos de la vida de la comunidad indígena Wayuu. Se puede acceder a este lugar desde la ciudad de Rioacha o Uribia en 4X4.
El cabo de la vela es un lugar maravilloso de playas vírgenes y paradisiacas, un lugar importante para la mitología wayuu, aquí se pueden encontrar varios lugares sagrados como el cerro Kamaichi o el Jepirra, también es un gran centro turístico y atrae a muchos deportistas interesados en kitesurf y windsurf.
La exuberante vegetación y biodiversidad de La Cerranía de Macuira, fuente importante de agua para la zona, posee un ecosistema único debido al contraste entre los bosques, montañas y zonas desérticas. Es un verdadero paraíso, un lugar mítico y sagrado para los indígenas Wayuu.
En Bahía Hondita y Punta Gallinas se pueden apreciar formaciones rocosas de acantilados, paisajes de mangle y dunas de arena. En la zona desértica de la Guajira se pueden observar dunas de arena como las dunas de Taroa que se conectan con las playas vírgenes del caribe, un gran espectáculo para todos aquellos que visitan la Guajira.
La Guajira también es un destino importante para el paso de las aves migratorias y reptiles, es la oportunidad perfecta para conocer la cultura, las tradiciones y disfrutar de paisajes inolvidables y únicos en el mundo.

Episode 26.
Since I arrived to South America, many people told me about La Guajira, how different it is from the rest of the places that you have ever been, the place where the desert meets the ocean on the most northern point of South America. La Guajira is occupied by WAYUU PEOPLE, the most numerous indigenous community in Colombia. A trip to La Guajira is a trip where you'll experience their culture and way of living.
From Costeño Beach we took a bus to Riohacha, we decided to make our own way to Cabo de la Vela, without any agency. In Riohacha we spent a night because the last colectivo to Uribia is at 10 am, then in Uribia we took another colectivo to Cabo de la Vela. We spent one night sleeping in chinchorros in Cabo de la Vela and meeting so local. La Guajira could be a tough place, because of economic and cultural differences, so be careful if you decided to explore it by your self.
On Cabo de la Vela we booked a tour to take us to Punta Gallinas because it is the only way to reach it. So the next morning we set up at 5 am to reach the northern point in South America
On those days we spent a budget of 30 € per day, leaving us with 1.330€ to continue our adventure.

Desde que llegue a Sudamerica mucha gente me hablo de La Guajira, como se siente como un lugar diferente, el punto mas norte de Sudamerica donde vive la comunidad WAYUU. Sin duda es un lugar chocante, con sentimientos encontrados. Pero estoy contenta de haber vivido esta experiencia
Desde Costeño Beach cogimos un bus hacia Riohacha. Niall y yo queriamos hacer nuestro propio camino hacia Cabo de la Vela , por lo que hicimos noche en Riohacha para poder coger la mañana siguiente un colectivo hacia Uribia, el ultimo colectivo es a las 10 am.
Una vez en Uribia tomamos otro colectivo hacia Cabo de la Vela, donde pasamos una noche. En Cabo de la Vela tuvimos que contratar un tour que nos llevase a Punta Gallinas pues es el unico modo de llegar. En Punta Gallinas pasamos un dia y una noche donde visitamos diferentes puntos.
En estos dias mantuvimos un presupuesto de 30€ al día aproximadamente, lo que nos deja con un balance final de 1.330€ para continuar la aventura.

Punta Gallinas is situated in the northern part of the department of La Guajira, on the coast of the Caribbean Sea.
The cape is at the northern tip of the Guajira Peninsula (Península de la Guajira) in the municipality of Uribia, about 150 km (95 mi) northeast of Riohacha.
The area has been populated by the indigenous Wayuu people for a long time.
The headland is also the location of the northernmost lighthouse in South America,
The lighthouse is a18 m (59 ft) high Faro de Punta Gallinas, which opened in 1989.
This is the Faro (Beacon), powered by solar energy. In such a desolated place there is no electrical gird.

La Guajira is the second poorest region in all Colombia, at the same time, it is the wildest and the most beautiful place of this country.
As we are on our motorcycle expedition across Colombia, we went to Guajira on our motorbikes. We went there without a guide and that's why we had some problems on the way. I really recommend you to take a local guide with you, if you are planning to go to Punta Gallinas. It is a quite dangerous place and it is very easy to get lost there. You can see from our vlog that we had A LOT OF PROBLEMS and we were not prepared as we should be.
But, still, LA GUAJIRA is a place that YOU MUST visit while being in Colombia. If you go there on a motorbikes be prepared for 200% off road and no indications on the road.

Wayira Beach Guajira Colombia - Gringo Colombia Travel 2020
Wayira Beach is located in the department of Guajira Colombia. It is a remote beach location accessible by flying into the town of Riohacha and its airport near the northeastern tip of Colombia on the Caribbean Ocean. The taxi ride from the Riohacha Airport to the entrance of Vacation Wayira Beach is a 45 minute drive.
The amenities include a hotel and rancherias along with a large swimming pool with jacuzzi and slide, an on-site restaurant (for most all-inclusive), and a lounge (for most all-inclusive). There a a few excursion options as well. Vacation Wayira Beach has one of the most peaceful, tranquil and private beaches in the world.

Los Flamencos: A sanctuary protected by the Wayuu Indians | WIDE
Guajira Peninsula is bordered by lagoons, saltmarshes and fishing villages. This beautiful area used to be thriving with life until people started exploiting it. The intensive human activity almost even led to the disappearance of the great egrets, pink ibises and flamingos from these waters.
Fortunately, in 1974, the site was turned into a wildlife sanctuary called Los Flamencos. And the birds came back.
Embark with Belisario on his little boat to observe these magnificent birds and learn more about the work done by the Wayuu community to preserve this area.

Hace unos 5 o 6 meses encontré una promoción en tiquetes aéreos que no podía dejar pasar. Los destinos eran limitados pero había uno que me llevaría a un lugar de Colombia que siempre había querido conocer: La Alta Guajira. Riohacha sería el destino elegido para viajar, sólo quedaba esperar.

El plan era sencillo, llegar lo más temprano posible a Riohacha y de inmediato tomar un carro hasta Uribia, comprar un par de cosas allí y tomar otro carro hasta el Cabo de la Vela.
En el carro hacía Uribia íbamos 4 pasajeros: Una anciana que no pronunció una sola palabra en todo el viaje, una joven aspirante a la política y un hombre que se jartó una botella dos litros de chirrinchi en una hora; todos ellos Wayúu. En ese momento entendí que ya estaba más cerca a mi destino.

Las historias de inseguridad que había escuchado sobre la Alta Guajira desaparecieron cuando antes de llegar a Uribia la chica que iba adelante se bajó en medio de la nada y atravesó la carrilera a un lado de la carretera mientras un fuerte viento pegaba en su vestido típico. Fue una escena tan linda que ahí supe que todo iba a estar bien.

Fue toda una introducción para llegar al cabo, entre desierto y polvo por fin vimos el mar, ya estaba allí. No esperé mucho para dejar mi maleta, elegir hamaca y salir con mi cámara a caminar sin esperar nada pero queriendo mucho. Juzguen las imágenes, y comenten cómo les pareció el resultado.
