The best thing I did in Colombia over 5 weeks. Uncovering the Hidden Gems of Cartagena - Colombia's Food Scene at the famous Sunday Bazurto Market and Afro Colombian history with Benkos Biohó, the high school Shakira built for under privileged kids and the neighbourhood above La Maria where the city would like to get rid of squatters to build luxury accommodation.
I discovered all of this with Deimer Puerta Marquez who runs a tour agency called Cheap and Safe Cartagena, these tours fun a bigger program called Fundacion HIT a nonprofit organization located in Cartagena, Colombia.
They are dedicated to helping children of extremely low resources acquire important values, life skills, and build teamwork through Nutritional, Educational, Sport, cultural programmes.

How to get from Cartagena to Medellin and then Guatape in Colombia via public transportation
I took the public bus from Cartagena all the way to Medellin and then took a mini bus to Guatape. The journey was way too long, I recommend taking a flight from Cartagena to Medellín and then from Madelaine taking a mini bus to Guatape which takes only two hours.

One of the best things about travel? Proving people wrong! Especially when it comes to stereotypes.
We had the opportunity to visit El Pozón through a local NGO. Much of the work and initiatives that I highlighted in this short video is done through them.
They're the ones who want to acknowledge their past, and write a new chapter. One that involves travelers and local children realizing how impactful tourism can be.
