Peru is probably one of South America’s most well-known destinations, and the mysterious settlement of Machu Picchu has adorned many a tourist postcard. But while the country is certainly celebrated for the Inca Trail and its ancient archeological site, Peru has so much more to offer than crumbling ruins. Explore the museums of Lima, soak in the hot springs of high-altitude Cusco, and fly over the astonishing Nazca lines. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Peru:
TRUJILLO DAY TRIP | Huanchaco, Huacas de Moche & Chan Chan, Peru | Northern Peru Travel
We finally left Cusco for Trujillo, the third-largest city in Peru, located in Northern Peru.
In this vlog, we take you on a day trip from Trujillo to three different sites:
1. Huacas de Moche (Temples of Moche)
2. Chan Chan Peru
3. Huanchaco
Here's the link to the full-day tour we took:
Our first stop was the Moche Temples, which consists of the Moche Museum (Museo Huacas de Moche), Temple of the Sun (Huaca del Sol) and Temple of the Moon (Huaca de la Luna). It was the city of the Moche civilization, which was developed around year 600 - a few hundred years prior to the Inca civilization.
Our second stop was the Chan Chan Ruins, which are one of the most endangered UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The ruins of Chan Chan also includes the Rainbow Temple (Huaca del Dragón), as well as the main Chan Chan Archaeological Zone. Chan Chan is a pre-Columbian city in the Americas. This Chimu Kingdom was the largest adobe city in the world with around 10,000 buildings. It was the capital of the Chimú civilization.
We ended our day in Huanchaco, a coastal town that used to be a sleepy fishing village. The waves here make the Huanchaco surf popular with the locals.
We're so glad we did this tour. It was a definite Northern Peru Travel bucket list item, as this is one of the least visited regions of Peru. Northern Peru receives less than 10% of International visitors to Peru.

Pre-Inca Ruins in Trujillo, Peru [Amazing Places 4K]

Huacas del Sol y de la Luna (Sun and Moon Temples/Pyramids) are adobe structures built by the Moche civilization between the 1st and 8th centuries, near the volcanic peak of Cerro Blanco.
Chan Chan is the largest pre-Colombian city in South America, capital of the Chimu civilization, from 9 to 15-th century. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The historic city of Chan Chan on the outskirts of Trujillo is an incredible, must see attraction in Peru.
It’s so easy to get to Chan Chan and entry is fairly cheap so definitely visit the largest pre Colombian city in the Americas and learn all about the Chimu people.
