Places to see in ( Southampton - UK )

Southampton is a port city on England’s south coast. It’s home to the SeaCity Museum, with an interactive model of the Titanic, which departed from Southampton in 1912. Nearby, Southampton City Art Gallery specialises in modern British art. Solent Sky Museum features vintage aircraft like the iconic Spitfire. Tudor House & Garden displays artifacts covering over 800 years of history, including a penny-farthing bike.

Southampton on the south coast of England, is the largest city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire. Southampton is 75 miles (121 km) south-west of London and 19 miles (31 km) north-west of Portsmouth. Southampton is a major port and the closest city to the New Forest. Southampton lies at the northernmost point of Southampton Water at the confluence of the Rivers Test and Itchen, with the River Hamble joining to the south of the urban area.

Significant employers in the city include the University of Southampton, Southampton Solent University, Southampton Airport, Ordnance Survey, BBC South, the NHS, ABP and Carnival UK. Southampton is noted for its association with the RMS Titanic, the Spitfire and more generally in the World War II narrative as one of the departure points for D-Day, and more recently as the home port of a number of the largest cruise ships in the world. Southampton has a large shopping centre and retail park, Westquay. In 2014, the city council approved a follow-up from the Westquay park, WestQuay Watermark (now known as Westquay South) and construction began in January 2015.

The geography of Southampton is influenced by the sea and rivers. The city lies at the northern tip of the Southampton Water, a deep water estuary. Southampton is home to Southampton Football Club—nicknamed The Saints—the club plays in the Premier League at St Mary's Stadium .

Southampton is a major UK port which has good transport links with the rest of the country. Southampton is also served by the rail network, which is used both by freight services to and from the docks and passenger services as part of the national rail system. Southampton Airport is a regional airport located in the town of Eastleigh, just north of the city. Cunard ships are regularly launched in the city, for example Queen Victoria was named by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall in December 2007, and the Queen named Queen Elizabeth in the city during October 2011. The Duchess of Cambridge performed the naming ceremony of Royal Princess on 13 June 2013. While Southampton is no longer the base for any cross-channel ferries.

Hythe, Dibden & Dibden Purlieu

For more info visit

Hythe is the hidden gem of the New Forest towns. Nestling between the New Forest and Southampton Water, its varied coastline offers fascinating views of one of the world’s busiest ports.

People visit Hythe for many reasons - to shop in one of the many independently owned shops or to enjoy a drink or a meal in one of its excellent cafés, pubs or restaurants. But what visitors enjoy most of all are the unrivalled views of the water and the beautiful cruise liners arriving in the port of Southampton. You can stroll along the beautiful and diverse waterfront, or you can just sit and enjoy the ever changing vista.

Throughout the year visitors are attracted by the Markets. The Tuesday Street Market is every week in the High St and has stalls selling flowers, olives, locally sourced meat, local preserves and chutneys, photographs, fabrics, baked good, fruit and veg, plants, fresh fish, and jewelry among other things. Occasional specialty markets such as the 'France at Home', 'Italia in Piazza' and the Bank Holiday Monday Arts, Craft, Vintage and Collectibles Market. On the last Saturday of November is the hugely popular Mistletoe Fayre.

There has been a ferry crossing between Hythe and Southampton since at least 1575. The 640 metre long pier was completed in 1881 and the electric railway and train were introduced in 1922. It is now the world’s oldest pier train. There is a half hourly ferry service to Southampton from the end of the pier and the 15 minute trip allows you to get ‘up close and personal’ with all the latest cruise liners.

In the early part of the 20th century, flying boats were built and operated from what is now Hythe Marine Park. T E Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia, worked at the British Power Boat Company and lived in the house in Shore Rd recognised with a Blue Plaque. The hovercraft, invented by Sir Christopher Cockerell - who lived in Hythe until he died - was also developed here and there is a Memorial to the Hovercraft in the gardens of The Grove adjacent to the original test slipway.

In the area now known as the Waterside, Hythe is the central village of numerous small communities now vastly expanded by dormitory housing serving the petrochemical industries in the Waterside as well as the City of Southampton. Hythe with its sister communities of Dibden and Dibden Purlieu are part of the Parish of Hythe and Dibden.

Britain’s currency is the pound sterling (£), which is divided into 100 pence (p).

Scotland has its own pound sterling notes. These represent the same value as an English note and can be used elsewhere in Britain. The Scottish £1 note is not accepted outside Scotland.

There are lots of bureaux de change in Britain – often located inside:

• banks

Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:

If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.

If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).

Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.

European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.

HYTHE, HAMPSHIRE, UK

A February 2021 drive around the wonderful village of Hythe on the South Coast of Hampshire UK. Situated on the shores of Southampton Water in the Solent ,where many cruise ships may be seen, in normal times. My village of birth which has changed somewhat since then in a positive way.

Hythe Town - Where the Forest Meets the Sea

The Parish Council is one of the original Parishes having been formed in 1894 as part of the Local Government Act of that year. It was initially called Dibden Parish Council but underwent a change of name in 1983 to give recognition to the importance of Hythe as the focal centre of the Parish.

The Parish comprises three communities Dibden, Hythe and Dibden Purlieu. The development of the Parish, almost totally for residential purposes, means that the three now have merged into one.

The Parish which, is the third largest (in terms of population) in the New Forest District Council area, lies on the eastern boundary of the District Council. It is situated on the banks of Southampton Water and covers an area of approximately 6 square miles with a resident population of approximately 20,000 in some 8600 dwellings.

There are good travel links from the Hythe area with the M27 some 10 miles north providing direct access to the motorway network linking to London (77 miles), Birmingham (128 miles). The rail link from Southampton gives a 70 minute link to London. Southampton is a twelve minute ferry journey from Hythe Pier. Southampton and Bournemouth Airports are within a half hours drive.

The Council owns or controls approximately 200 acres of public land in the Parish including Prospect Place which fronts onto Southampton Water, nine equipped play areas with others coming on line in the future,a multi-purpose sports centre and a parish hall.

In addition the Council owns The Grove, which is a one stop shop for the Parish Council and New Forest District Council's Local Information Office as well as several local Voluntary Organisations including the CAB and the Disability Advice Centre.

The Council owns 3 Allotment sites. The demand for allotments is high and there is a waiting list for vacant plots

A number of bus shelters, seats and litter bins are provided and maintained by the Council.

Places to see in ( Stockbridge - UK )

Places to see in ( Stockbridge - UK )

Stockbridge is a small town, civil parish and conservation area in west Hampshire, England, 65 miles from London. It has an area of 1,323 acres and a population of little under 600 people according to the 2001 census. It sits astride the Test and at the foot of Stockbridge Down. It is in the Test Valley borough which shares local government with Hampshire County Council.

The A30 road goes through the town, which once carried most of the traffic from London to Dorset, south Somerset, Devon and Cornwall in the South West. However, engineering of the A303 dual carriageway today provides a flatter, unimpeded route in the north by Andover used for travel between the regions mentioned, just as the M4 replaced the A4. The bridge over the Test led to the town's name,[3] allegedly as a coach stop where provisions (stock) could be taken aboard, in fact because an earlier bridge was made of stocks, that is to say tree trunks. Salisbury is 15 miles (24 km) by road; Winchester is 8.3 miles (13.4 km) by the B3049 road that joins the A30 by the town. This historic town is en route from the medieval cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury.

The town's street crosses the River Test, marking the border of the parishes of Stockbridge and Longstock by a low bridge of three arches rebuilt and widened in 1799. Five smaller river channels flow through the town. For a brief time, to provide space for fish, these were split into eight artificial ditches just above the town. The town is on a shared pedestrian/footpath, the Test Way.

The place-name 'Stockbridge' is first attested in Charter Rolls of 1239, where it appears as Stocbrigge. In Inquisitiones post mortem of 1258 it appears as Stokbregg. The name means 'stock bridge', referring to a bridge constructed from stocks (meaning 'tree trunks'). Stockbridge was the scene of the capture of Robert of Gloucester by William of Ypres in 1141. Edward I stayed in Stockbridge in August 1294, as did the last Catholic King, James II, on his way to Salisbury to meet the forces of the Prince of Orange. He dined at the Swan Inn in November 1688, which still exists.

( Stockbridge - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Stockbridge . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Stockbridge - UK
