Tiny Tour | Tortosa Spain | A beautiful ancient city by the river Ebro | 2020 Sep

Tortosa is a city and municipality in Catalunya, capital of the Baix Ebre region. It is also the seat of the diocese of Tortosa and is an important agricultural, commercial and industrial center.
Tortosa is located at 12 metres (39 feet) above sea level, by the Ebro River, protected on its northern side by the mountains of the Cardó Massif, of which Buinaca, one of the highest peaks, is located within Tortosa's municipal boundary.
Tortosa was possibly the city of Hibera, capital of the Iberian territory of Ilercavonia. It is very likely that the main settlement was on the hill that currently occupies the Castillo de la Suda. It was Dertosa under the Roman Empire, occupied in 714 by the Muslims.
The economy of the municipality is based on the commercial and service activity in the city, at the same time as an industrial sector located in the Bajo Ebro industrial estate, the South Catalonia industrial estate (called to be the regional economic engine) and the Polygon of the Station next to that of Ravaleta de Roquetes. Another of its activities is the agricultural sector.
Dertosa is the name of a city of Roman Hispania that corresponds to the present city of Tortosa. The town preserves an important epigraphic collection (many of its inscriptions were recorded by Emil Hübner and collected in the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum II) and archaeological remains such as granite columns, which can be seen in this episode.

Places to see in ( Tarragona - Spain ) Tortosa Cathedral

Places to see in ( Tarragona - Spain ) Tortosa Cathedral

The Catedral of Saint Mary of Tortosa is a cathedral located in Tortosa, Catalonia, Spain and seat of the Diocese of Tortosa. The present structure is located in the center of the city's old town.

Tortosa Cathedral construction began in 1347 on the remains of a previous Romanesque cathedral. The cathedral was completed two centuries later. It was designed by Benito Dalguayre and has three naves with chapels between the buttresses and an ambulatory with radial chapels.[1] The church is constructed in the Catalan Gothic style, though the façade, from the 18th century, is Baroque.

Archeological excavations on the site revealed that the cathedral was constructed on the site of an older Romanesque church, which was itself built on the site of the old Roman forum of Tortosa.

MORE INFO ABOUT THE VIDEO ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Spain is a complex country! It’s also a pretty easy going one. But there are certain things that you just don’t want to get wrong. And here they are!

11. Don’t go OTT on please and thank you.
In Spanish we just don’t use the words as much. We are more likely to work ‘please’ and ’thank you’ into the tone of how we speak, or by tweaking the words (such as adding “ito” to the end of a word).

10. Don’t put bread on your plate.
In Spain, you always leave your bread beside your plate on the table. It sites beside your cutlery, because it kind of is a piece of cutlery.

9. Don’t eat with your hand under the table.
I grew up with no elbows on the table. But here in Spain we also have the rule that you should have your hands above the table at all times. Because you might have a knife??

8. Don’t offer guests a beer at 5pm
Because we eat lunch and dinner later, beer o’clock is usually about 8pm… not 5pm.

7. Don’t help with the dishes after parties.
It’s just not something that’s done here. At the end of a party or dinner party, you might help tidy up slightly, but you don’t help do the dishes.

6. Don’t be a ‘pesado’ in social situations.
Chill out! Don’t ask people what their job is straight away when you meet them in a social setting and don’t expect people to cut to the chase when telling a story - we take our time here!

5. Don’t misinterpret loud conversations.
When Yoly speaks with her mother on the phone, it can get heated. But they’re not arguing - it’s just that conversations here often sound more intense.

4. Don’t generalise about Spain.
This is a highly regional country. So don’t assume that every region of Spain has the same language, customs or food.

3. Don’t call Catalan a dialect of Spanish.
Catalan is its own language - and don’t get that wrong (especially when speaking to a Catalan)

2. Don’t used ‘usted’ willy nilly.
Here in Spain we’re pretty informal and so don’t use “usted” unless we’re speaking with older people or in very formal situations.

1. Don’t mention the civil war casually.
The Spanish civil war and the dictatorship is a really complex topic, and still an open wound in Spain. So wait until you know someone pretty well before diving into the topic.

Mirador del Zigurat | Riumar | Amposta | Tortosa | Spain | July 2021 | 4K

- Visit the viewpoint of the Ziggurat de Riumar. It is one of the most popular viewpoints in the area. It is located in a strategic point, from where you will enjoy the best views of the Ebro Delta.
- Riumar is a privileged place, since it is located between the mouth of the River Ebro and the sea, and is within the Natural Park of the Ebro Delta.
- Amposta is a municipality located in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. The city is located on the right (or south) bank of the River Ebro,on the boundary between the continental shelf and the Ebro delta; in fact, the easternmost part of the city is built on a marshy area. The municipality is the largest in the montsiá region,of which Amposta is the capital.
- Tortosa, a bimonthly city, is the result of the progression of the cultures that have inhabited it, since they have all left their mark. Presided over by the castle of La Zuda, Tortosa has a beautiful old town where you must let yourself get lost. Unknown and surprising, the best way to get to know her is on foot.

Parador de Tortosa - Book it now! Save up to 20% -
Enjoy a historic setting and magnificent views from this 10th century castle, carefully restored as a luxury hotel but still retaining much of its original charm.
The Parador de Tortosa’s setting in the Beceite Mountains offers views of the green Ebro Valley and the ancient city of Tortosa. It was originally built by the Moorish King Abderramán III, but over the centuries has been updated in a Gothic style. The interior is traditionally Christian, with vaulted ceilings, wood beams and antique-style, wooden furniture.
Take in the stunning views from the spacious sun terrace or the outdoor swimming pool. You can then try some of the typical Catalan cuisine served in the hotel restaurant – a charming venue with exquisite stained-glass windows.

Tarragona Catalonia Spain Travel Video

Tarragona is primarily known for its many well-preserved monuments dating back to the Roman period, which are scattered decoratively throughout the city. Here, you will find traces of antiquity which hint at Spain´s glorious history, it´s hard to find another city like this all over the Iberian Peninsula.

Human towers are a significant part of the culture of Catalonia, they are so deeply rooted in the local traditions of Tarragona that the people of the city built a monument in their honour. The Als Castellers monument, located on the Rambla Nova, is a life-size structure measuring 11 metres high and is made of 222 bronze figures.

Places to see in ( Tarragona - Spain ) Circ Roma

Places to see in ( Tarragona - Spain ) Circ Roma

The circus of Tarraco was located in the city's pomerium , taking advantage of lands that, from the founding period, were state-owned. Located in the upper part of Tarragona , parallel to the Rambla Vella, and in some parts, it maintains an exceptional state of conservation. It is the building where the horse races were developed, as well as those of beams and quads with capacity for 20,000 people, where the carriage races were carried out. It was built during the rule of Emperor Domitian (81-96 AD) and was in operation until the 5th century AD.

Circ Roma construction responds to a unitary project that is based on the concession by Vespasian from ius latii to the Hispanic provinces around 73 AD. It is for this reason that the circus will be part of a large monumental complex structured on three terraces that will become the reflection of the State in the province.

The provincial forum , articulated on two levels, will occupy the highest part of the hill. The circus would occupy the terrace under the foral set. This would be delimited by the tardorepublicana wall in the West and East, the present Avenue of the Roman Empire and Paseo de San Antonio, respectively; for the provincial foral structure on the northern side, perpetuated in the streets of Ferrers and Tiles; and by the Augusta road, in its passage through the city, on the southern side.

Circ Roma is for this adaptation to the topography of the land and the space available that the building has dimensions and features that make it unique.
