Spain is a complex country! It’s also a pretty easy going one. But there are certain things that you just don’t want to get wrong. And here they are!
11. Don’t go OTT on please and thank you.
In Spanish we just don’t use the words as much. We are more likely to work ‘please’ and ’thank you’ into the tone of how we speak, or by tweaking the words (such as adding “ito” to the end of a word).
10. Don’t put bread on your plate.
In Spain, you always leave your bread beside your plate on the table. It sites beside your cutlery, because it kind of is a piece of cutlery.
9. Don’t eat with your hand under the table.
I grew up with no elbows on the table. But here in Spain we also have the rule that you should have your hands above the table at all times. Because you might have a knife??
8. Don’t offer guests a beer at 5pm
Because we eat lunch and dinner later, beer o’clock is usually about 8pm… not 5pm.
7. Don’t help with the dishes after parties.
It’s just not something that’s done here. At the end of a party or dinner party, you might help tidy up slightly, but you don’t help do the dishes.
6. Don’t be a ‘pesado’ in social situations.
Chill out! Don’t ask people what their job is straight away when you meet them in a social setting and don’t expect people to cut to the chase when telling a story - we take our time here!
5. Don’t misinterpret loud conversations.
When Yoly speaks with her mother on the phone, it can get heated. But they’re not arguing - it’s just that conversations here often sound more intense.
4. Don’t generalise about Spain.
This is a highly regional country. So don’t assume that every region of Spain has the same language, customs or food.
3. Don’t call Catalan a dialect of Spanish.
Catalan is its own language - and don’t get that wrong (especially when speaking to a Catalan)
2. Don’t used ‘usted’ willy nilly.
Here in Spain we’re pretty informal and so don’t use “usted” unless we’re speaking with older people or in very formal situations.
1. Don’t mention the civil war casually.
The Spanish civil war and the dictatorship is a really complex topic, and still an open wound in Spain. So wait until you know someone pretty well before diving into the topic.

Torrox is a municipality in the province of Málaga in the autonomous community of Andalusia, southern Spain. It belongs to the region of Axarquía. It is located in the Costa del Sol, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and the foothills of the Sierra de Almijara.
The city itself is divided into sections: Torrox Costa on the sea and Torrox Pueblo, 4 km inland. Torrox Park, a housing section in between the costa and the village, could be seen as another division. Torrox is located in close proximity to Nerja.
Axarquía is a region of Andalusia in southern Spain. It is the wedge-shaped area east of Málaga. It extends along the coast and inland. Its coastal towns make up the Costa del Sol Oriental - one of the sunniest places in mainland Spain with the average of 320 sunny days a year. The natives of the region are called axárquicos.
The region is composed of 31 municipalities, of which the capital is Vélez-Málaga. The Vélez, Algarrobo and Torrox rivers all run through the region.

Torrox Pueblo Spain Calm Winter Afternoon March 2022 Costa del Sol | Axarquía | Málaga [4K]
Torrox is a municipality in the province of Málaga in the autonomous community of Andalucía southern Spain. It belongs to the comarca of Axarquía. Torrox is located in the Costa del Sol (specifically the Costa del Sol Oriental), on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and the foothills of the Sierra de Almijara.
The word Torrox comes from Arab that means “tower.” However, several studies have proved that the first inhabitants of this place in the province of Malaga were the Phoenicians, and the Romans, who develop the commercial and fishing industry (famous is the garum sauce) in the area. Later on, Torrox was occupied by the Arabs, when it became the silk collecting centre, which then used to be sent to Málaga and Granada. Torrox was conquered by the Christians in 1488.
This place is frequented especially by German and British tourists. The city itself is divided into sections: Torrox Costa on the sea and Torrox Pueblo, 4 km inland. Torrox Park, a housing section in between the costa and the village, could be seen as another division. Torrox is located in close proximity to Nerja.
With an average year round temperature of 18ºC, Torrox is a land of eternal spring and has become the jewel in the crown of the Costa del Sol by managing to always be warm. This fortunate climate is due to the Valley of the River Torrox, whose river limits temperature extremes as it opens up to the sea, whilst at the same time the surrounding mountains keep out strong winds.
The town possesses an interesting cultural heritage such as an archaeological site with a Roman forum and the church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. The first is home to the remains of a Roman town, that flourished between the first and forth century AD. The church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación was built in the 16th century and extended in the 17th. Its ceilings are made of wooden Mudéjar framework, and outside its tower rises up in a rectangular prism form, and is crowned with a pyramid shaped spire.
In summer, the central Plaza de la Constitución welcomes buildings such as the Casa de la Joya, the Town Hall and the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, the Fuente de los Chorros and the statue of El Miguero. However, its most appealing feature are the 600 colourful umbrellas with which the square gets decorated in summer, which aims to add splendid touches of colour to the place and provide shadow to beat the heat.

Andalusia is the most populous and the second largest autonomous community in the country. The Andalusian autonomous community is officially recognized as a historical nationality.
Today we go to visit Torrox Pueblo, close to Nerja and Torrox Costa. Torrox, is a typical inland Andalusian white town, being traced in winding, steep streets, narrow alleys, where their homes are whitewashed houses with a white facade with balconies and windows decorated with flowerpots full of flowers and plants.

Torrox Costa is one of my favourite holiday resorts on the Costa Del Sol with a great beach, fantastic bars and restaurants!
A great place for a relaxing holiday in the sunshine
Walk with me along the Playa as we take a look around to see what Torrox Costa Spain has to offer.
Many of the great restaurants along the Torrox Costa promenade are still open (a few of them have had to close permanently) but there's still more choice than you need for somewhere to eat or drink!
We begin this 4K walk at the Faro De Torrox Lighthouse, walking around looking at the sea round to the beach and paseo maritimo promenade.
On the beach we see holidaymakers sunbathe in the afternoon sun, and take a paddle in the sea. A familiar scene for anyone travelling to Spain for holidays.

Torrox is a municipality in the province of Málaga in the autonomous community of Andalusia, southern Spain, on Costa del Sol. It belongs to the comarcs of Axarquía and is located in close proximity to Nerja.
Torrox is the village with the best climate of Europe, according to a study done in 2008. With an average temperature of 18 °C (64 °F) and just 54 days of rain per year.
It is divided into two districts, namely Torrox-Costa, the district directly on the coast, which is the home of holidaymakers, and Torrox Pueblo, the actual village where you can enjoy the original life can still feel a little here on the coast.

Torrox Costa Spain Relaxing Town Update Early Summer 2022 Costa del Sol | Axarquía | Málaga [4K]
Torrox belongs to the region of the Axarquía, in the province of Málaga. The mild climate conditions and the warm welcome you will receive, make this place an exceptional holiday destination, so much that the town has won the “prize” of Europe’s best climate. This is thanks to the year-round spring, whose average temperature is 18ºC.
This is possible thanks to the mountains that envelop the village and its closeness to the beaches of the Costa del Sol, in the valley of river Torrox. In fact, only 4 km separate the two areas of Torrox, Torrox Pueblo and Torrox Costa. The landscape you will be able to enjoy is subtropical, as it combines the town’s seven beaches, summing a total of nine km worth of seashore, with the mountain range that prevents the strong winds from reaching Torrox.
As mentioned, the town is divided into two areas, separated by 4 km and well connected between each other. Torrox Pueblo is the Old Town, the oldest part of the village and where you will find the highest quantity of history and monuments.
Torrox Costa, on the other hand, features more touristic areas, beaches and seashores that let you enjoy the famous climate of Torrox. Torrox Costa is also divided into smaller areas, among which El Morche stands out. Here is where the fishermen used to live and, nowadays, it has become a very fascinating tourist attraction.
The word Torrox comes from Arab, and it means “tower”. However, several studies have proved that the first inhabitants of this place in the province of Malaga were the Phoenicians, and the Romans, who develop the commercial and fishing industry (famous is the garum sauce) in the area. Later on, Torrox was occupied by the Arabs, when it became the silk collecting centre, which then used to be sent to Malaga and Granada. Torrox was conquered by the Christians in 1488.
The Lighthouse of Torrox is the main attraction in town. It was built in 1864, and it’s one of the only ones in the province of Malaga that are open to the public. The lighthouse welcomes exhibitions that show the history of Torrox, also thanks to the Roman archaeological site that’s located in the Lighthouse enclosure. Inside the lighthouse, there is the Museo Marino de Torrox (Marine Museum of Torrox).
The coast of Torrox is part of the famous Costa del Sol. Among its most famous beaches, some are awarded yearly the Blue Flag, which is a synonym of cleanliness and purity of its waters and sand. The beaches of Torrox feature the beach of El Morche, in the urban area of Torrox Costa, provided with a promenade and provided with all services, and the 1.200-mt-long beach of Ferrara, which has access adapted for people with reduced mobility. The latter also features a smaller cove in its East part (Playa Chica) and it’s characterised by a familiar ambience.

A walking tour of the promenade and beach to faro de torrox lighthouse at sunset
This holiday resort is a very laid back and relaxed place compared to others on the Costa Del Sol in Spain.
There are no big groups of drunken lads on a night out here! Instead it's a peaceful place with couples and families relaxing in the sunshine and having meals and drinks at the beachfront restaurants and bars.
There are no massive holiday hotels yet either. The buildings here are apartments. Many of them are second homes or holiday homes for the Spanish and German nationals in Spain.
This is just one of many virtual walking tours we have filmed, where we put a walk to happy positive music to keep you smiling and dancing as we go!

Torrox Costa is a small town located in the province of Malaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It is situated on the Mediterranean coast, about 30 miles (48 km) east of the city of Malaga. Torrox Costa is known for its beautiful beaches and mild climate, and is a popular destination for tourists and holidaymakers.
The town of Torrox Costa is located on the Mediterranean coast, and is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. The town is situated at the foot of the Sierra de Almijara mountain range, which offers a wide range of outdoor activities and adventures. Torrox Costa is one of my favourite spanish holiday resort towns, with it's golden beach, it's beachfront cafes, restaurants and bars, the chiringuitos and the way you can relax and paddle in the sea.
One thing you won't find here in Torrox Costa is big flashy noisy hotels or chain restaurants as it's very much a traditional Spanish holiday town with mostly Spanish visitors coming to relax and enjoy a holiday on the Costa Del Sol.
