In the south of the castle, Sulusokak is located where you can find many historical mosques, tombs and caravanserais. Tokat Museum is also situated in Arastalı Bedesten, a former Ottoman bazaar dating from 16th century, in Sulusokak. Most probably, Sulusokak is the oldest commercial and social hub of the city. Transylvanian Prince Vlad III, better known as Vlad Țepeș/Vlad the Impaler, the main inspiration behind Bram Stroker's Count Dracula, in his early life, was imprisoned by Ottomans in Tokat Castle which has been built on a rocky hill near Sulusokak. In the Cumhuriyet square, Ali Pasha Mosque and Bathhouse from 16th century are located. In Meydan district, Hatuniye Meydan Mosque and Taşhan hostelry are located. Clock Tower has been built in Behzat Square next to historical Behzat Mosque in 1901 to celebrate 25th anniversary of Abdulhamid II's reign. Behzat Square was the administrative center of the city in 19th and early 20th centuries, hosting much of government buildings, Clock Tower, Mevlevihane and Yüksek Kahve (High Coffee House).

Surrounded by orchards & gardens, Tokat lies on a plain beneath steep hills that are crowned by a ruined citadel, often identified as the ancient fortress Dazimon. Tokat stands near the site of ancient Comana of Pontus, one of the most important cities of the Pontus district during the Roman period. Tokat rose to prominence after Comana’s decline in Byzantine times. During the 11th–13th century it was an important city of a Turkmen principality & later of the Seljuq Turks. It was incorporated into the Ottoman Empire about 1392. Noteworthy among its landmarks, mostly dating from the Seljuq period, are the blue-tiled Gök (Blue) Medrese, a 13th-century Islamic religious school that houses the local museum, & the Halef Gazi Tekkesi monastery, dating from about 1290.
#Tokat is the capital city of #TokatProvince of #Turkey in the mid-#BlackSea region of #Anatolia. It is located at the confluence of the Tokat River (Tokat Suyu) with the Yeşilırmak.

Tokat Museum, Tokat | Turkish Museums
The Tokat Museum, established in 1926, was one of the first museums in the history of the Turkish Republic. Its rich collection of artifacts was used to create many other museum collections in the Black Sea region. Today, visitors can explore 6,000 years of history including the Chalcolithic period, Early Bronze Age, Hittites, Phrygians, Romans, Byzantines, Danisments, Ilkanhids, Seljuk and Ottomans. The museum is also home to a Quran written in 1191, the only surviving manuscript from that period. A must-see in the region for those interested in exploring the rich Turkish cultural heritage.

Taşhan (Stone Inn) is one of the biggest city inns in Anatolia. It is on Gaziosmanpasa Boulevard. It was built between 1626 and 1632. It is a rectangular two-storey building with an open courtyard. There are workplaces without porticoes in the north and east direction with outer shops and shops with porticoes in the south and west direction. At the end of the entrance corridor, you reach the second floor from the right and left. All rooms open onto the second floor. There is a domed space above the entrance and this space overflows on the consoles. They have a window opening outwards, a stove and a niche. There are a total of 103 places inside and 76 outside. It is one of the largest city inns in Anatolia.
Today, the rooms are used as shops, art workshops and cafes. Taşhan (Stone Inn) has the magnificent traces of history dating back to Ottoman Empire. Taşhan (Stone Inn) has a two floor rectangular plan, with an open courtyard. The rooms have a window opening to the outside, a stove and a niche, but there are 76 spaces inside and 103 spaces in total.
Today, you may shop for Tokat manuscript, Tokat table cloth, copperware and other copper items, gifts, jewelry, authentic clothes are sold at Taşhan (Stone Inn). Art (and especially glass and copper) workshops can be followed or attended at at Taşhan (Stone Inn), as well. You may also have cup of hot traditional Turkish tea in tradional glass. Or, you may enjoy your traditional Turkish coffee cooked on coal embers. To eat, you may consider Tokat pancakes.
