Tiptree Jam Factory ???? ???? Afternoon Tea

Today we are going to the Tiptree Jam Factory for afternoon tea. This is probably the most British thing you can do so ends my UK vlog series well. We live just down the road from Tiptree Jam factory which is one of the original afternoon teas and obviously Tiptree Jam is one of the best. We have the debate about if it is Jam or cream first on scones.

Welcome To The Video Of Today - Visiting Colchester - Essex

Greetings from Colchester! Its history extends back more than 2000 years.

Colchester's Past
After invading Britain, the Romans built their first fort. Queen Boudica destroyed it in AD60, but it was immediately rebuilt. The largest intact Roman gateway in Britain and the remnants of the only chariot racing circus on the island are only two examples of Roman relics that can be seen all over Colchester. Colchester Castle, the city's most prominent monument, is a good place to start learning about Roman Colchester. The greatest Norman keeps in all of Europe, which was erected more than a millennium after Colchester was settled by the Romans. However, the castle's inside is a sizable history museum, with many of the exhibits focused on the region's Roman past. The Norman heritage goes well beyond the castle. The parish's largest religious institutions and a number of churches date to the 11th and 12th centuries. While the huge ruins of St. Botolph's Priory, the earliest Augustinian settlement in Britain, erected around 1100, can be visited in a park, the gatehouse of St. John's Abbey, built in 1096, still survives. The huge church was still intact after the monasteries were dissolved in 1536 but much of its structures were destroyed during the Second Civil War's siege in 1648. The Royalist-held town was shelled by government forces, which resulted in St. Botolph's current condition. It is thought that this conflict is depicted in the well-known nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty.

Attractions In Colchester
The Mercury Theatre, Lakeside Theatre, Charter Hall, Headgate Theatre, and the Colchester Arts Centre, all host a variety of productions, giving the town the reputation of being somewhat of a theatre town. There are various galleries in the city for the visual arts, but Firstsite is the most well-known. A visit to the Hollytrees Museum is also recommended. The exhibitions, which span three floors cover the social history of Colchester's common citizens in recent times. Additionally, it houses a sizable collection of 200 clocks built in Colchester.
The town's oldest religious structure, Holy Trinity Church, is still standing. Although there was undoubtedly a church there prior to 1020, the square Saxon tower is thought to have been constructed at that time. Roman bricks can be seen in the walls scattered among the stones. A tiny gateway in the tower with a triangular arch above it is also noteworthy.

Accommodations In Colchester
Visit and stay in one of the opulent boutique hotels or family-run B&Bs. Select a historic hotel or spoil yourself with a posh stay at a country house & spa. Discover the countryside and homes that inspired Constable. Considering a trip to the countryside soon? The best places to stay in and around Colchester are self-catering and camping areas so you have the flexibility to explore the area at your own pace.

Eat & Drink in Colchester
You can explore a variety of eateries, cafes, bars, and pubs across the borough. At a number of seafood restaurants on Mersea Island, oysters are perhaps the dish that the area is best known for. By royal appointment, Wilkin & Sons have been making jam and preserves in the nearby town of Tiptree for more than a century. Why not treat yourself to a cream tea and sip some locally made beer or wine from a Colchester Vineyard?

How To Reach Colchester
From Liverpool Street Station, there are frequent direct trains to Colchester.
From Stansted Airport, there's a frequent bus service to Colchester Bus Station and the University of Essex (Colchester). Driving from London, use the M25 motorway, then the A12.
