LUARCA, ASTURIAS CANTABRIA SPAIN (PART 3)
Luarca is one of the most attractive towns in Asturias and Cantabria, indeed its harbour is one of the loveliest we’ve found in Spain.
We took plenty of walks along the jetty and look back to get excellent views of the harbour. Its lovely by daytime, but its even better at night when it is lit up by the street lights and surrounding buildings. Luarca's harbour is a great place to stop for a drink or a meal. Luarca has a beach backed by tall cliffs, with parts of it very sheltered and an excellent spot for a bit of sunbathing.
The town itself not only has the sea at the front but has a river, the river Negro, winding through it and so is criss-crossed by seven bridges.
Up above the town there is an attractive multi-tiered cemetery, said to be one of the most attractive in Spain. It sits on a rocky outcrop and from here with the sea behind you you can see Luarca and its harbour down to the left and an attractive beach, backed by cliffs, to the right. There is also a hermitage chapel and a lighthouse.

Places to see in ( Asturias - Spain ) Playa del Silencio
The Playa del Silencio , Cudillero (Asturias) is one of those places where time stops and is worth going to see. As it is not very close to any large population nucleus it still retains that semi-unknown beach status although its beauty will sooner or later be discovered by the general public.
To get to the beach of Silencio (also called the Gavieiru or Gavieiro) we have to reach the town of Castañeras, 16 km from Cudillero in a westerly direction. We have to leave the car before reaching the cliff and see the image that appears in most of the photos that we can see from the beach of Silence. When we reach the village we see the signs indicating where we should go.
To get there you have to walk a dirt road that is highly recommended to walk on foot for pleasure and if there are many cars parked and we can not leave ours because the space to park is tiny so we better leave the car in the village and we make the road bent over in 10 minutes. The road is worth the scenery. To those who like Asturias , this will not disappoint you. From above it is certainly the most spectacular view and from below, it depends a lot on how the sea, whatever the time of the sun, etc. but it is also very beautiful from the shore.

A Bird's Eye View of the Camino Primitivo: New Drone Footage of Stage 3 from Salas to Tineo

Whether you're planning your own pilgrimage or simply seeking inspiration, our drone footage offers a unique and unforgettable perspective on the Camino Primitivo. Join us on this soaring journey through one of Spain's most beloved walking routes.
Another fully rural day, between meadows and forests of oak and chestnut trees. In the first eight kilometers we ascend from 240 meters of altitude in Salas to 660 in La Espina; then we advance with gentler slopes, although frequent, reaching almost 800 meters of altitude. La Espina is the only intermediate town that has all the services.

We leave Salas passing under the arch that joins the Valdés-Salas palace and the medieval tower. Along a pleasant and quiet track next to the Nonaya River, between oak and chestnut trees, we gradually gain altitude.
Further on, the slope becomes more pronounced and halfway up, for the umpteenth time, we come across the works of the A-63 motorway. Once again an unexpected detour that hardens and lengthens the route; Fortunately, it is well signposted.
We end up on the N-634 national road, along the shoulder of which we are forced to walk for about fifteen minutes, until we take a path that climbs to the left (with strange turns, pay attention to the signs) that leads us to the village of Pigs. From here the road flattens out to Bodenaya, where there is a hostel for pilgrims.

At the exit of El Pedregal we take another path on the right, uphill, which advances halfway up the slope through a thick forest. Until Tineo the route is beautiful, in the middle of nature, in a quiet rural environment.
At the entrance to Tineo we skirt the soccer field and arrive at the chapel of San Roque, next to a park. We take the Camino de San Roque walk, in the upper part of the town; To access the hostel we must turn left downhill, at a well-signposted detour, while if we want to continue on the path we continue straight on.

The stews are the best dishes that we can find in Tineo, especially if we walk in winter. They are usually made with different varieties of legumes. One of the best known throughout Asturias is the fabada.

However, the ingredients that undoubtedly give more flavor to traditional stews are sausages, and Tineo stands out for their excellence. In the town's butcher shops, chorizos, black puddings and other more autochthonous ones such as tsinguaniza, andoyas, butietso or chosco, the best known of all, are made. We can order them in the restaurants of the town.

To understand the concept and quality of the food in Asturias you must first understand the environment from which it is produced!

Visit the council of Grado, Asturias (España - Spain) - Where is Asturias
The Council and town of Grado are situated at the centre of Asturias and is well located being just 15 minutes from the city of Oviedo and less than 30 minutes from Asturias airport and also some very fine beaches.
The Council represents the starting point (or finishing point) of the Camino Real de la Mesa (Royal Route of the |Table). This pre-Romanic route was one of the busiest routes between Asturias and the central plateau of Spain and serviced the community up to the 19th century. There are still traces of the Roman roads winding through the hills, meadows and along the River Nalon.
Grado has a commercial tradition from medieval times which still remains to this day. The town hosts the very popular country market on Wednesdays and especially on Sundays when farmers, craftsman and other providers sell their products in the centre of the village in a very nice, colourful and picturesque market experience.
The town of Grado is built around a historic centre with monuments such as the Palace of Miranda Valdecarzana from the 18th century or the Baroque chapel of Los Dolores. Grado also has some very fine houses and palaces designed in “Indiano”or south Americian architecture. There was large scale emigration from Asturias at the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twenty to the Americas, especially Cuba, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela and the US. The emigrants brought back a very cosmopolitan and American styled architecture which can be seen throughout the region.
Grado is also a part of the Primitive Route of the Route of Santiago which starts in Oviedo and passes through the town offering a great place for pilgrims to stock up on essentials or take a rest bite from walking A few short kilometres away from Grado are the towns of San Juan de Villapañada and Cabruñana where you will find a Pilgrim hostel which is an ideal location to rest up for the night. As you enter Grado from Oviedo you will find the village of Peñaflor where you can see the Church of San Roman with original Romanic features and the picturesque 12th century bridge crossing the river Nalon.
