Hidden Gems in The Coromandel Peninsula | Tairua & Whangamata, NEW ZEALAND

The Coromandel Peninsula is about 2 hours east of Auckland and it's a popular holiday destination for many Kiwis. Tairua is on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula while Whangamata is on the southeast coast. In this vlog, we spend our day checking them both out.

First stop after reaching Tairua was to get some food. Being a coastal town, we had to try their fish & chips and whitebait fritter. We took our takeaways just down the road to enjoy them in a park next to the water. Peter returned later the same day to get their raw fish too.

Surf'n'Sand Takeaways
Address: Shop 7/236 Main Road North, Tairua 3508
Hours: Mon–Thu 11am–9pm, Fri 11am–9:30pm. Sat 12–9:30pm, Sun 12–9pm

Across the road from Surf & Sand Takeaways Peter spotted an intriguing looking shop called Heaven & Earth. It was filled with a vast array of gemstones, crystals, rocks, jewellery and even fossils! Amazingly they also have New Zealand's largest collection of moldavite. They had Items we never thought we'd see in a small town shop in NZ. Such a cool store with really friendly staff. Definitely a gem of the Coromandel.

Heaven & Earth
Address: 227 Main Road North, Tairua 3508
Hours: Sun–Thu 9:30am–5pm, Fri & Sat 9:30am–5:30pm

When in Tairua, we definitely recommend doing the walk up to Mt Paku's summit. Mount Paku is a volcanic peak and it's a relatively short walk with highly rewarding panoramic views at the top of the ocean, neighbouring islands and Tairua. We parked at Memorial Reserve and followed the signposts to reach the top.

Our accommodation was in Whangamata. We didn't realise when we went that it was during the Whangamata Beach Hop festival which is NZ's biggest celebration of the 50's and 60's. It's an annual 5 day festival that celebrates the culture, music, fashion, and automobiles of that era. We stayed at Kevan and Yvonne's B&B so we had a lovely, clean and comfortable private room in their home for the night.

The Top 10 Tourist Destinations In New Zealand #travel

We present you the top 10 best tourist places to visit in New Zealand that should be on your bucket list. Enjoy our Travel guide and destination to explore in 2022.
best flight & hotels deals????

In this video we talk about top ten tourist destinations to travel in New Zealand. New Zealand is a country of stunning and diverse natural beauty: jagged mountains, rolling pasture land, steep fiords, pristine trout-filled lakes, raging rivers, scenic beaches, and active volcanic zones. These islands are one of Earth's most peculiar bioregions, inhabited by flightless birds seen nowhere else such as a nocturnal, burrowing parrot called the kakapo and kiwi. Kiwi are not only one of the national symbols – the others being the silver fern leaf and koru – but also the name New Zealanders usually call themselves.

Coromandel - one of the finest areas to visit in New Zealand. Sit back and relax as we take you to some places you'll definitely want to visit!

Stop 1 - Our opening scene, also used in the Narnia movie.
Te Whanganui-A-Hei otherwise known as Cathedral Cove

If you're planning a visit to New Zealand - Coromandel, Cathedral Cove is a must visit destination with its iconic cave and stunning beach. Get ready for a bit of a scenic bush walk down to the famous cove and make sure you watch the video for some handy parking tips.

Stop 2 - When you're in Coromandel Town and hunger kicks in, you just have to get some Coromandel green lipped muscles. We stop off at Pepper Tree Restaurant and Bar in Coromandel Town to get some of these tasty molluscs and some delicious calamari too.
Address - 31 Kapanga Rd, Coromandel 3506
Hours: Monday - Sunday 10am–9pm

Stop 3 - With our bellies full it's time for another famous spot, Hahei Hot Water Beach. This hot water beach is on Mercury Bay on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand, approximately 12 kilometres south east of Whitianga. An amazing phenomenon occurs at this beach where if you dig up holes in the right spot you actually get access to hot spa-like waters. Go prepared with your spade and make yourself your very own hot spa pool on the beach.

Stop 4 - We retire for the evening at Dawn's AirBnb

If you're looking for a great place to stay in Coromandel Town, Dawn's AirBnb is a lovely little home away from home and such a cute cabin accommodation located on a farm and in a very convenient area of Coromandel Town. Dawn is a fantastic host so definitely check out her Coromondel accommodation if you're looking for a great place to stay. Fits 3 people very comfortably and if you're lucky you'll get a visit from her cute cat and dogs!

Stop 5 - On our final day we head over to Whitianga which is a short approximately 45 minute drive away from Coromandel Town to go to another one of our must visit spots. The Lost Spring. Enjoy this hidden paradise with geothermal spas and hot pools in a beautiful secluded nature setting. The Lost Spring in Whitianga is particularly enjoyable in cooler weather. You can even order some food and drinks to enjoy by the hot pools.
Address: 121A Cook Dr, Whitianga 3510
Hours: Monday - Sunday 9:30am–7pm

Stop 6 - Finally if you're craving Asian food there aren't that many choices in Coromandel Peninsula but over in Whitianga we take you to our favourite Asian (Thai) restaurants, The House of Chang Thai.

Walking around the town of THAMES in NEW ZEALAND with a GoPro7, which brought me into a surprising number of bookstores for what I thought was a fairly small town. Pretty cool little place, and maybe typical for New Zealand? Maybe? Nice place though!

2. Mangapuhue Natural Bridge walk is a massive cave system that has mostly collapsed, forming a large canyon and a thin slice of the cave's roof remains. It's free to visit and located near the famous Waitomo Glowworm cave.

3. Rikoriko cave is the worlds largest sea cave! The best way to see it is on a trip with Dive! Tutukaka. The boat will go right inside the cave and you also have the opportunity to swim in the tropical waters that run through this part of New Zealand! $219 nzd per person including wetsuits, snorkel equipment, watersports equipment and lunch.

4. The Wairere boulders were formed millions of years ago by a massive hot lava flow. It's located in the Hokianga and one of Northlands best kept secrets. There is a small admission fee.

5. Rere Rockslides in Gisborne is a famous local spot. Be careful when visiting as sometimes the water quality is not good for swimming. Free to visit.

6. The Goblin Forest is hidden all along the slopes of Mount Taranaki. There are several areas where dense mangled trees like this can be found. This is along the Wilkies Pools Loop Track. Free to visit.

9. Cathedral Cove is a famous coastal arch in the Coromandel surrounded by perfect white sandy beaches and clear blue water. It's free to visit but parking costs.

10. Milford Sound has been carved out by glaciers over millions of years and is now one of the most famous locations in New Zealand. It's just as beautiful when it rains because hundreds of waterfalls stream down the steep rock faces. Best seen on a cruise. City Description:
Coromandel is a coastal town on the Coromandel Peninsula of New Zealand's North Island. It's known for the Driving Creek Railway, a narrow-gauge train ride through mountain forests, past pottery sculptures. Powered by a huge waterwheel, the 1900s Coromandel Gold Stamper Battery still processes gold from rock. The town's gold mining history is chronicled at the Coromandel School of Mines and Historical Museum.rrrrrrrrrnFrom Coromandel Harbour, the Kauri Block Track leads up to an old Maori pa (fortress), with views over the town and offshore islands. The 309 Road runs south from town, past bushland and local farms. Along the road, the Chiltern Scenic Reserve offers trails and a picnic area. Farther south, the Waiau Falls pour over a rock face surrounded by dense vegetation. Nearby, a boardwalk leads into Kauri Grove, a cluster of huge native trees. Long Bay Beach is a popular spot for camping and swimming, and boats launch from Wyuna Bay.

Weather and Events:
Oct–Apr is a common time to visit Coromandel, when the weather is typically mild and comfortable. Days can be warm during the height of summer (Jan–Feb). Winter (Jun–Aug) is cool, with some chilly lows. Rain is possible year-round. Illume: Coromandel Winter Festival of Light (Jun/Jul) sees the town’s main street lit up in a colourful display, with live music, art displays and street food.
