Do you know the best place to enjoy a spa in Germany?
There are actually some famous spa towns, but one of the most popular is called Aachen.
The historic city of Aachen is known for its healing thermal waters and hot springs dating back to Roman times.
As someone from Japan, which is a hot spring paradise, I felt like I had to come to this city and try one of its renowned spas for myself.
However, I have to say that the experience was very different from Japan’s hot springs and caused me to have the biggest culture shock since arriving in Germany.
In this video, I’m going to share what I experienced in this German spa town.

Teterow - Stadt im Mittelpunkt
Und das im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Als geographischer Mittelpunkt des Landes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern hat die Stadt Ihren Urlaubern und Gästen zu jeder Jahreszeit etwas zu bieten. Der gut erhaltene mittelalterliche Stadtkern mit Stadttoren, Rathaus, Hechtbrunnen, Stadtkirche und Mühlenviertel lädt zu einem Bummel ein.
Die Teterower verstanden es seit jeher auf sich aufmerksam zu machen. z.B. fingen Sie einen kapitalen Hecht, den Sie mit einer Glocke um den Hals zurück ins Wasser setzten. Er sollte bis zum Königsschuß aufgehoben werden. Und nur sie konnten auf die Idee kommen, ihren Stadtbullen auf der Stadtmauer grasen zu lassen. All das brachte Teterow den Beinamen „Schilda des Nordens ein.
Heute begehen die braven Bürger der Stadt ein Wochenende vor Pfingsten ihr traditionelles Hechtfest. In Szene gesetzte Schildbürgerstreiche, ein buntes Programm und jede Menge Schausteller sorgen für Kurzweil bei Jung und Alt. Aber auch in sportlicher Hinsicht hat Teterow etwas Einzigartiges zu bieten den Teterower Bergring, Europas schönste Grasrennbahn. Jährlich zu Pfingsten treffen sich hier Tausende Motorsportbegeisterte, um die spannenden Rennen zu verfolgen.
Sehenswert ist ebenfalls die nähere Umgebung des Ortes. Interessante Ausflugsziele sind die Heidberge mit dem Ehrenmal, das Hohe Holz und die Burgwallinsel im Teterower See eine ehemalige slawische Siedlungsstätte. Zu erreichen ist dieses Kleinod mit einer Fähre. Auf der Insel angekommen, erwarten den Besucher ein gut ausgeschilderter Inselwanderweg, ein Naturbadestrand, ein Wassersportzentrum mit Segelschule und Bootsverleih, ein Abenteuerspielplatz sowie ein Hotel mit Restaurant und Sommerterrasse.

Visitamos Teterow por casualidad, simplemente porque se encontraba en nuestro camino, y realizamos allí una parada. Es por tanto una población que pasaría desapercibida al turismo si no es por esa casualidad. Pero como cualquier población alemana tiene su historia y su atractivo. Y como otras muchas ciudades alemanas perdidas, se merece un escaner simplemente, porque es bastante improbable que cualquier turista latino, se haya perdido por aquí, y por tanto conozca Teterow.
Posee aun restauradas sus dos antiguas entradas a la población del siglo XIV que entonces se encontraba amurallada: la Malchiner Tor (hoy sede del museo local de historia) (foto 1), y la Rostocker Tor (foto 2).
A través de ambas entradas se accede al centro de Teterow donde encontramos el edificio del Ayuntamiento (foto 3), y su plaza central (foto 4). Junto a ella la iglesia (fotos 5 y 6) dedicada a San Pedro y San Pablo y construida en 1215 en estilo románico tardío y gótico.
No muy lejos del centro se encuentra su lago, el Teterower see, y a su orilla la curiosa y antiguo cuartel de los bomberos (foto 7). Junto al lago hay muchos caminos y zonas verdes para pasear (foto 8), y es agradable incluso bajo la lluvia que caía aquel día (foto 9).
En ese parque, y luego por todo el paseo por la ciudad encontramos muchas obras de arte urbano de todo tipo: sirenas talladas en madera en un puente (foto 10), figuras de animales y humanas en bronce (fotos 11, 12 y 13), esculturas en piedra en las puertas de las casas (foto 14), o pinturas aprovechando unas ventanas tapiadas (foto 15)...
