At this beautiful destination, you’ll find spectacular white-sand beaches, a turquoise sea, and a vibrant nightlife, which attracts millions of tourists every year. But unfortunately most tourists don’t venture out of the famed Hotel Zone. If you’re staying in Cancun and looking for unique activities to do, we highly recommend you head out of the town at least once during your trip! Cancun is the perfect location to explore nearby towns, Mayan ruins, and natural attractions from. In this video we highlight 5 must-do day trips from Cancun:
5. Río Lagartos & Las Coloradas
Located about 3.5 hours from Cancun, Río Lagartos and Las Coloradas make for a great day trip. Río Lagartos is basically a fishing village located along the Gulf Coast. It’s filled with wildlife and pristine nature. You can explore its protected biosphere by taking a boat tour where you will observe hundreds of flamingos, crocodiles, and pelicans. Right outside the biosphere, you can find the pink water lagoons called “Las Coloradas”. These pink lakes are formed by salt mines and make for stunning pictures.

4. Tulum
From the Tulum Ruins to the unique Kaan Luum lagoon, the Calavera Cenote and the Gran Cenote, you have plenty of options here. Tulum is a 2 hour drive away from Cancun and can be easily reached by local collectivo or the tourist ADO bus. Alternatively, you can also book a day tour to get here.

3. Bacalar
Famous for its immense deep-blue lake, Bacalar is located in the south of Quintana Roo, near the border of Belize. It takes about 4 hours to get here by tour bus, so ideally spend more than 1 day here if you can. However, it’s still doable to get there and then back to Cancun in a day if you get an early start. It’s best explored during a boat tour, so you can experience and swim in the different colors and cenotes in the lake.

2. Isla Mujeres
Only a 20 minute boat ride from Cancun, Isla Mujeres is the closest day trip recommendation on our list. The island is a beautiful, peaceful paradise known for its white-sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and the friendliest locals in the Mexican Caribbean. It’s also a popular scuba diving and snorkeling destination, with the impressive MUSA Underwater Museum of Art and the beautiful Manchones Reef near the shore.

Our favorite day trip from Cancun is to Chichen Itza, one of the 7 World Wonders. This archeological site is located about 3 hours away from Cancun by tour bus. Chichen Itza was once a thriving community of Mayan people and boasts an interesting history that you can’t miss.

My best friend and I visited Mexico City, aka CDMX, this past March—I’m so excited to share our trip! We spent four days there, and fell in love with the vibrant city. Things that stood out to us during the trip were:

El cenote Xpakay es uno de los cenotes de nuestro gran catalogo de cenotes a donde Adventure Tours te puede llevar a conocer.
cenote Xpakay, ubicado en el municipio de Tekit.
El Cenote de Xpakay, cuenta con 50 m de profundidad y aproximadamente 20 m de diámetro; en los que contiene más de 20,000 m3 de agua. El cenote está catalogado como semi-abierto, ya que una parte de la bóveda se encuentra colapsada.
Apto para bañarse y bucear máxima profundidad 130 pies (40 metros) No tiene desarrollo de cueva

Cenotes are geological marvels found predominantly in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, particularly in the region around cities like Merida in the natural phenomena known as the cenote geological ring, a feature formed when the meteor that killed the dinosaurs smashed into what is now the Yucatán Peninsula.
These natural formations are characterized by sinkholes or natural pits that expose groundwater underneath, creating beautiful, often crystal-clear, freshwater pools that hold significant cultural, ecological, and recreational importance.
Getting To Telchaquillo and Suhem
Suhem Cenote is situated near the village of Telchaquillo, approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Mérida in the Yucatan Peninsula.
By Car: The most convenient way to reach Suhem Cenote is by car. From Mérida, take Highway 281 towards Cancun. After passing through the town of Tekit, watch for signs indicating the turnoff for Telchaquillo. Follow these signs, and locals can guide you to the cenote.
Public Transportation: While public transportation to Telchaquillo exists, reaching the cenote might require a local taxi or a short walk from the village.
Ecosystem and Wildlife:

Guía cenotes de Yucatán / Yucatan cenotes guides.
Acompáñanos a conocer estos impresionantes cenotes cerca de la ciudad de Mérida, Yucatán. Cerca de la población de Cuzamá y más específicamente en el pueblo de Chun Kaanan donde es necesario tomar un rústico transporte de madera que circula sobre vías de más de 100 años de antigüedad y donde se encuentran los cenotes Santa Cruz con su rica variedad de estalactitas, estalagmitas y columnas en plena formación. El cenote Dzpakal es un estrecho tiro con un descenso vertical de 24 metros donde se practica la espeleología submarina o buceo en cueva y el cenote Chelentún o piedra del arco iris que es el más grande de los tres y que permite practicar los clavados, el esnórkel y el buceo de cueva.
Finalmente visitaremos el famoso cenote Ik Kil con una boca de 60 metros de diametro, con una caida libre de 26 metros hasta el agua y una profundidad de 40 metros que ha servido de escenario para competencias mundiales de clavados.
