Things to do in San Gil, Colombia: Paragliding Chicamocha Canyon, Exploring Natural Pools,and Curiti
Who knew so many adventures could be had in Santander, Colombia? Over 3 days I explored the area of San Gil the adventure capital of Colombia for extreme sports where you can go paragliding the 2nd largest canyon in the world Chicamocha Canyon (also a Colombian National Park), bungee jump, explore natural pools and caves near Curiti as well as explore cute colonial towns. Backpacking Colombia is a great way as a solo traveler to meet new friends and many follow a certain path. Staying at hostels like Trip Monkey and doing tours with Fenixtremes allowed me to meet people on the road.

Day 13 San Agustin to Garzon, Colombia 110km Trip total 980km
The day started up in the clouds in the village of San Agustin which is at the headwaters of Colombia's longest river - the Magdelana.
All day the Magdelena would be my guide as it snaked its way north through the lower mountains that separates the towering Andean subranges of the Cordillera Central and Cordillera Oriental.
As seems to be the pattern on this trip by the end of the day I would have climbed nearly as much as I descended.

Barichara, Guane y rio Suarez en el departamento de Santander en Colombia, vista desde el aire
El municipio de Barichara se encuentra localizado en el departamento de Santander. Fue fundado en 1705 y declarado patrimonio cultural en 1978; también conocido como “el pueblito más lindo de Colombia” se caracteriza por su arquitectura colonial, balcones de madera, plazas tradicionales y calles en piedra.
Barichara tiene un clima cálido que varía entre los 19°C y 28°C, ideal para disfrutar de sus vacaciones; además ofrece actividades para todo tipo de gustos; para los amantes de la cultura y la historia es el lugar perfecto para conocer las costumbres, la historia de la región debido a su importancia histórica en Colombia y el lugar ideal para los amantes de la aventura, que deseen practicar rafting y parapente.
Los lugares más representativos de Barichara son: Catedral de la inmaculada Concepción, iglesia de Santa Bárbara, capilla de Jesús resucitado, la plaza principal, el mirador de Barichara desde donde se puede observar el cañón del río Suárez; además los viajeros tendrán la oportunidad de observar una gran variedad de monumentos.
Cerca de Barichara se puede encontrar el pueblo de Guane, un pueblo colonial conocido por su museo arqueológico y antropológico que rinde homenaje a la cultura indígena Guane.

Viajes cortos: Represa Salvajina - Suárez Cauca
A dos horas de Cali, se encuentra la represa de salvajina, ubicada en el municipio de Suárez.
Lo que ofrece el sitio, ademas de pasar un rato admirando la represa, es ir a sus diferentes sitios de baño que te ofrecen cascadas y charcos en los que puedes disfrutar la pureza del agua.
