Places to see in ( Ipswich - UK )

Places to see in ( Ipswich - UK )

Ipswich is the county town of Suffolk, England, located on the estuary of the River Orwell, about 60 miles north east of London. Ipswich has been continuously occupied since the Saxon period, and its port has been one of England's most important for the whole of its history.

Ipswich is a non-metropolitan district. The urban development of Ipswich overspills the borough boundaries significantly, with 75% of the town's population living within the borough at the time of the 2011 Census, when it was the fourth-largest urban area in the United Kingdom's East of England region, and the 42nd largest urban area in England and Wales.

The Ipswich docks area (the waterfront) is now devoted primarily to leisure use and includes extensive recent development of residential apartment blocks and a university campus. Holywells is the area around Holywells Park, a 67-acre (27 ha) public park situated near the docks, and the subject of a painting by Thomas Gainsborough. Chantry is a housing estate and park to the town's south-west.

Districts outside the town centre include Bixley Farm, Broke Hall, California, Castle Hill, The Dales, Gainsborough, Greenwich, Kesgrave (which is actually a separate town situated in Suffolk Coastal District), Maidenhall, Pinewood, Priory Heath, Racecourse, Ravenswood (built on a former airfield), Rose Hill, Rushmere, Springvale, St Margarets, Stoke, Warren Heath, Westbourne, Whitehouse and Whitton. To the east of the town is Trinity Park near Bucklesham the home of the annual Suffolk Show, a typical county show.

Ipswich's sole professional association football club is Ipswich Town, which was established in 1878 and, as of 2015, plays in the second-tier Football League Championship at the 30,300-capacity Portman Road stadium.

Unknown England. Boxford and Sudbury, Suffolk (subtitles)

Unknown England. Boxford and Sudbury, Suffolk.
Today's video is about two places in Suffolk Boxford and Sudbury. A distance of 15 miles (about 10 kilometers) is separating them. It is only an 1 hour 45 minutes by train from London to Sudbury.
Initially we were planning to film in Boxford and then in Long Melford, and to stop in Sudbury for a coffee. But as it turned out Sudbury is so beautiful and amazing that we have decided to stay longer and film here.
I have mentioned most notable things to do in Boxford and Sudbury in the subtitles.
Sudbury Heritage Centre is worth mentioning as well.
We would definitely do another video about Sudbury and this one is only a short introduction.

I have a favour to ask, if you can, please donate to Ukrainian charities to help people of Ukraine in this very difficult situation when russia wages war against Ukraine. Places to see in ( Swanley - UK )

Swanley is a town and civil parish in the Sevenoaks District of Kent, England. It is located approximately 15 miles southeast of central London, adjacent to the Greater London boundary and within the M25 motorway. The population at the 2011 census was 16,226. The local council is Swanley Town Council.

In 1066, Swanley only consisted of a few cattle farms, surrounded in oak, sycamore and ash (Fraxinus) woodland. Because Swanley only consisted of a few homesteads, it was not mentioned in the Domesday Book. The civil parish of Swanley was created in 1955 from neighbouring parishes of Farningham and Sutton at Hone reflecting the developments of the town and increase in population. In 1974 the parish council became a Town Council and included the settlements of Hextable, Swanley Village and the main town of Swanley. In 1988, Hextable was formed into a separate parish council.

Within Kent, Swanley is adjacent to the parishes of Wilmington and Hextable to the north, Sutton-at-Hone and Hawley and Farningham to the east, and Eynsford and Crockenhill to the south. To the west there is a boundary with St Mary Cray in the London Borough of Bromley and Ruxley in the London Borough of Bexley. The closest large towns are Bexleyheath, Dartford, Orpington and Sidcup. The Swanley post town in the BR postcode area includes the hamlet of Hockenden in the London Borough of Bromley.

Swanley has easy access to the M25, M20 and the A20 being on the M25 Junction 3 interchange. The A2 is also north of the town. Swanley station serves the town with National Rail services to London Victoria via Bromley South, West Hampstead Thameslink via Bromley South and Catford (peak journeys continue on to Bedford, Dover Priory via Chatham and Canterbury East, Canterbury West via Maidstone East and Ashford International as well as to Sevenoaks.

Places to see in ( Stowmarket - UK )

Places to see in ( Stowmarket - UK )

Stowmarket is a small market town situated in Suffolk, England, on the busy A14 trunk road between Bury St Edmunds to the west and Ipswich to the southeast. The town of Stowmarket is on the main railway line between London and Norwich, and lies on the River Gipping, which is joined by its tributary, the River Rat, to the south of the town.

The town of Stowmarket takes its name from the Old English word stōw meaning principal place, and was granted a market charter in 1347 by Edward III. A bi-weekly market is still held there today on Thursday and Saturday. The church of St Peter and St Mary is in the Decorated style and dates to the 14th century. The 16th-century former vicarage, now the town council offices and register office, has associations with John Milton; Milton’s Tree in its grounds is believed to be an offshoot of one of the many trees he planted there.

Haughley Park is an historical house of significance listed in the English Heritage Register. It is a large red brick country house built in about 1620 for the Sulyard family who were very prominent landowners in this area. Opened in 1967, the Museum of East Anglian Life occupies a 70-acre (28 ha) site close to the town centre. The Karnser is a raised pavement in Station Road West, next to the church. The name is the East Anglian dialect word caunsey, meaning a causey (causeway).

In the 18th century the Gipping was made navigable between Stowmarket and Ipswich by a series of locks. The newly created canal was known as the Ipswich and Stowmarket Navigation. Stowmarket railway station is on the Great Eastern Main Line from London Liverpool Street to Norwich. It is also the junction of the line to Bury St Edmunds. It is served by Abellio Greater Anglia. Suffolk County Council has built a road from the Central Roundabout, a short distance to the east of Stowmarket, to Gipping Way in central Stowmarket at a cost of £21 million.

Stowmarket has held an annual carnival for well over 50 years in the recreation park featuring a fun fair, fireworks, a procession through the town and local entertainment. Stowmarket also plays host to the music festival Stow-Fest, a live music open-air event that takes place annually at Chilton Fields in the North of Stowmarket. Stowmarket has a maritime climate type as is typical for the bulk of the British Isles. Wattisham is the nearest official weather station, about 4 miles south south west of Stowmarket Town centre.

Long Distance Guided Walks: The Mid Suffolk Footpath

New Guidebook available at

The Mid Suffolk Footpath is a 21.5 mile waymarked Long Distance Trail that begins on the Angles Way just north of Hoxne and finishes in the market town of Stowmarket. It visits numerous villages along the way including Hoxne, Eye, Thorndon, Thwaite, Mendlesham and Mendlesham Green.

A detour to Eye is well worth it for refreshments as well as the stunning town hall and Norman Motte & Bailey Castle.

The route isn't served well with public transport so other means will need to be arranged if required although there is a good Train Link from Stowmarket to Diss (roughly 6 miles from the official start of the walk but a short bus journey can shorten this considerably).
