This is a town that's one of the top Minnesota attractions for good reason. It's a town worth exploring as there are plenty of things to see and do in this Minnesota river town, from checking out some amazing architecture to going on a hike or fishing trip. Minneapolis and Saint Paul are some of the two best cities in America. They're also home to some of the most amazing things to do, see, eat, drink and experience. In this video, I give you 15 must-do activities that will help you get started exploring these fantastic places!
Minneapolis and Saint Paul are two cities that are located in the state of Minnesota. They are located on opposite banks of the Mississippi River just north of its confluence with the Minnesota River, which forms the border between the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin at this point. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area consists of over 16 cities in Minnesota with a population of 3.6 million people.
Unlike most Twin Cities, Minneapolis (MPLS) is slightly larger by population than Saint Paul, though today it is not as true as it was for most of the 20th Century. Saint Paul has won national acclaim for its beauty and livability.
The two cities have very different histories and they blend beautifully today. Although it's hard to say which is the better of the two, I'm referring to Minneapolis as a much more boring place than Saint Paul (in terms of activities and things to do).
Minneapolis has a lot of fun things for you to do, like the Mill City Museum or the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, in which you can immerse yourself in flour and the history of Minneapolis. Or visit the Science Museum of Minnesota for over 300 interactive exhibits covering science, art, history, and nature in Saint Paul.

So why here? Well… when Wisconsin became a state in 1848, that left people west of the St. Croix river “high and dry” with no government.
So, the people of Stillwater held a territorial convention right here and voted to send a delegate to Washington D.C. to organize a new territory called “Minnesota” which became a territory in 1849, and a state in 1858.

✔ In 1837, treaties were signed between the US government and the local Ojibwa and Dakota nations that allowed settlement in the St. Croix Valley
✔ Stillwater was incorporated in 1854, on the same day as St. Paul
✔ The city was named for the calm waters of the St. Croix River
✔ It is one of MN's oldest cities
✔ In the 1850s, and Stillwater became a lumbering center as logs were floated down the St. Croix from northern forests
✔ Stillwater is considered the Birthplace of Minnesota because in 1848 the first territorial convention that began the process of establishing Minnesota as a State was held on the corner of Myrtle and Main Street downtown
✔ The first automatic pop-up toaster was invented Charles P. Strite in a manufacturing plant in Stillwater, Minnesota. Strite’s device was called the Toastmaster and he was awarded a patent for it in 1921
✔ The Historic Lift Bridge built in 1931 connecting MN and WI is one of few still remaining in operation the country today
✔ Tourism is now a major focus of the economy, and the city has many historic buildings (including a courthouse dating from 1870)
✔ Stillwater is part of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway
✔ The City of Stillwater is federally recognized as a Preserve America Community and the downtown Main Street area is Nationally registered as the Stillwater Commercial Historic District
