Our focus was of course touring around world class vineyards and wine farms in and around Stellenbosch; however, we also covered some of best outdoor activities and cultural experiences such as going on a vineyard segway tour, wine safari, visiting a township and eating a local Xhosa meal. Stellenbosch town has numerous attractions worth visiting and a wonderful cafe, restaurant and nightlife scene. Fortunately, we had a chance to explore on foot and bicycle to see a different side of town. Things to do in Stellenbosch, South Africa Travel Guide Video Transcript:
On our very first trip to South Africa we spent one day in Stellenbosch where we did a wine tour and hit up a total of 5 wineries. It was an action packed day but we knew we had only seen a fraction of what this place has to offer and we were itching to return! Fast forward two years, and we found ourselves with an invitation to come and experience Stellenbosch, this time with a week to spare. Naturally we said yes! This being the winelands meant that our itinerary was wine heavy, but we also got to see sample the food, visit the markets, check out the nightlife and get close to nature. The following is our travel guide to Stellenbosch, pour yourself a glass of wine, sit back, and join us on this ride!
In between all the feasting and vineyard hopping, we also found a bit of time to explore Stellenbosch itself. Stellenbosch is a charming town located in the Western Cape, and it’s the second oldest European settlement in the province after Cape Town. The streets are lined with oak trees, the buildings are all painted white, and you have a cool mix of Early Cape, Cape Dutch, and Victorian architecture.
And while Sam was off hiking, I did a biking tour of Stellenbosch with the Adventure Shop, where I learned a bit more about the town’s history, and got out in nature, before biking over to the Lanzerac Wine Estate where we met up with the group again. Here we had a light lunch featuring a spread of cheese, deli meats, fresh fruits, and of course, wine!
And just like that our week in Stellenbosch was over! I think it’s fair to say that we left a few pounds heavier, but with a newfound appreciation for South African wine and a taste of what the winelands have to offer. INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE IN SOUTH AFRICAN WINELANDS - Franschhoek, Stellenbosch | Garden Route (part 2)
This video is packed full of epic adventures! We drink our way through wine country, visit the cutest penguins in Bettys Bay, and even go diving with giant sharks in Gansbaai!
If you are a wine lover you might already know that South Africa is one of the top 10 largest wine producers in the world. It is also home to one of the oldest wine countries (or Winelands) outside of Europe, a wine country that we could not pass up the chance to visit! Join us as we drink our way through Robertson, Franschoek, and of course Stellenbosch.
After a few days in wine country it was time to continue on the road trip. It wouldn’t be a proper Garden Route Road Trip without a stop at the Stony Point Penguin Colony in Betty’s Bay. Stony Point Nature Reserve is home to one of the largest breeding colonies of the endangered African Penguin in the world. We could have stayed and watched those little guys forever, they are just the CUTEST!
One of the top adventures on the Garden Route is shark cage diving, so of course we couldn’t miss our opportunity. We headed down to Gansbaai because it has the largest populations of great white sharks in the world. We were thrilled to be able to dive with these giant beasts!
