Next door, the Liebig Museum has chemistry exhibits, plus the lab of 19th-century scientist Justus von Liebig. Part of the University of Giessen, the Botanical Garden was founded in 1609 and has thousands of plant species. Northwest, Burg Gleiberg castle overlooks the town.

A Quick Trip to Friedberg, Germany
In this video I share some of the highlights of my quick trip to Friedberg, Germany.
Friedberg is a small town in Germany 25-kilometers away from Frankfurt am Main.
I visited Friedberg during the middle of August and it was surprisingly quiet. There were hardly any tourists around and my girlfriend that I had the town to ourselves to explore.
After an hour there wasn't much else to do in Friedberg so we continued on with the rest of our Central European and German road trip.

Marburg, Germany in Snow 4K - A unique fairytale medieval town in Germany
Today's tour is in Marburg, Germany. Marburg is, quite literally, a fairy-tale town. The Brothers Grimm studied here from 1802-06, and were so enchanted by the town’s medieval flair, cobbled alleys, stunning architecture and lush countryside, that they weaved elements of this town in their famous fairy tales. Painter Otto Ubbelohde also drew inspiration from this town while working on his illustrations for the Grimm fairy tales. Marburg is an important stop in Germany’s Fairy Tale Route, and offers several faity-tale-themed tours to visitors.

The town of Auerbach (Bensheim) [de] was mentioned for the first time in the Lorsch codex as Urbach. Through the marriage of Hildegard von Henneberg, areas of the Bergstraße passed to Henry II of Katzenelnbogen in 1135. Henry was ennobled as an earl in 1138 by King Konrad III. At that time, Auerbach belonged to the County of Katzenelnbogen. Katzenelnbogen was sub-divided into the Lower County (around St. Goar on the Rhine) and the Upper County (in what is now southern Hesse, south of the Main).
A stronghold was needed to provide security for the southern Katzenelnbogen dynasty; this included protection of the duties (tolls) collected at the town of Zwingenberg from travellers using the well-known north-south trading route along the Roman mountain road (Strada Montana, or Bergstrasse in German). Auerbach Castle was built on the strategically important Auerberg (Urberg) hill to address this need. Construction of the castle is believed to have begun about 1222 by the order of Earl Diether IV von Katzenelnbogen. The earliest mention of a castle on Urberg in the historical record appears in 1247, and the first document of the castle itself dates from 1257. In 1479 County Katzenelnbogen (including Auerbach Castle) passed to the Landgraviate of Hesse.
The castle lost much of its strategic importance during the 16th century until, by the time of the Thirty Years War, it was no longer in military use. In 1674 (during the 1672–1679 Franco-Dutch War) the castle was conquered and set afire by an army under French Marshal Turenne, killing local people who had sought protection within its walls. The abandoned castle became a ruin over the following years.
In 1820 the north tower of the castle collapsed, after which the Landgraviate of Hesse decided to secure (and partially rebuild) the ruins. In 1888 an inn was built in the former bailey, which was open year-round.
During the 1950s, the south tower became inaccessible due to the deterioration of its wooden staircase. In 1989, construction began on a terraced restaurant; it opened the following year, increasing the attraction of the castle ruins to visitors. In 2007, the stairway in the south tower was repaired and reopened to the public.

Gießen is a university in the Landkreis Giessen in Mittelhessen and with 90,131 inhabitants (31 December 2020) the largest city of Hesse and one of the State Statistics Offices of the Landes. As the seat of the Gießen district and the regional district, it is the Mittelhessens administrative center, a local traffic police station and a regional center.
Within a kilometer west of Wetzlar in the Lahn-Dill district, the city has an agglomeration room with about 200,000 inhabitants, in the vicinity of the region comes to approx. 275,000 entrants. In other directions, the city of Marburg (Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf) is located, Fulda (Landkreis Fulda) is located in the Vogelsbergs, Siegen (Kreis Siegen-Wittgenstein) in Southwestfalen, Friedberg (Hessen) and Bad Nauheim in Bad Limburg. Driving in Germany: Bundesstraße B10 from Göppingen to Geislingen an der Steige
In this video you can drive along on the B10 urban expressway from the city of Göppingen to the city of Geislingen an der Steige. The B10 East of Stuttgart doesn't only serve many of the nearby cities, it's also an important through-route to Ulm and for many a viable alternative to the Autobahn A8 Albaufstieg.
But just like the A8 at the Albaufstieg, a notorious bottleneck and one of the most scenic Autobahns in Germany, the B10 running in parallel is just as much a bottleneck. Right after the exit to the B466 in the direction of Heidenheim, the B10 turns into a single lane expressway going through a few towns and cities.
The amount of traffic has been a problem for decades now and on the day that I filmed it's no exception, which is why I fast-forwarded the video even more at some point. In many of the towns on the way you see signs against the B10 or for a B10 bypass of the town. The geography makes it difficult though, especially after Geislingen there is some challenging incline much like the A8 Albaufstieg. I hope you find this video interesting. Eine Wanderung durch die Weinberge von Durchbach bescherte uns herrliche Ausblicke in die Ortenau und einen Besuch auf dem Schloss Staufenberg.
Die Rundwanderung Durbach zum Schloss Staufenberg und wieder zurück ist eine 8,1 km Wanderung mit ca. 280 Höhenmeter und einer Dauer von ca. 2,5 Std. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad wird mit mittel angegeben.
Kommt mit, wir schauen Mal ob das Schlossfräulein zuhause ist.

The Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is a medieval castle located in the commune of Orschwiller in the Bas-Rhin département of France, in the Vosges mountains just west of Sélestat.
It is situated in a strategic location on a rocky spur overlooking the Upper Rhine Plain; as a result it was used by successive powers from the Middle Ages until the Thirty Years' War when it was abandoned.
From 1900 to 1908 it was rebuilt at the behest of the German emperor Wilhelm II. Today it is a major tourist site, attracting more than 500,000 visitors a year.
The Buntsandstein rock was first mentioned as Stophanberch (Staufenberg) in a 774 deed issued by the Frankish king Charlemagne.
Again certified in 854, it was then a possession of the French Basilica of St Denis and the site of a monastery.
After World War I, the French state confiscated the castle in accordance with the 1919 Treaty of Versailles.
It has been listed since 1862 and classified since 1993 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.
In 2007, ownership was transferred to the Bas-Rhin département.
Today, it is one of the most famous tourist attractions in the region.
For many years it was considered fashionable in France to sneer at the castle because of its links to the German emperor.
Many considered it to be nothing more than a fairy tale castle similar to Neuschwanstein.
However, in recent years many historians have established that, although it is not a completely accurate reconstruction, it is at least interesting for what it shows about Wilhelm II's romantic nationalist ideas of the past and the architect's work.
Indeed, Bodo Ebhardt restored the castle following a close study of the remaining walls, archives and other fortified castles built at the same period.
Parts of the 1937 film La Grande Illusion by Jean Renoir were shot at Haut-Kœnigsbourg.
A copy of the castle has been built in the Berjaya Hills, 60 km north-east of Kuala Lumpur.
A copy of the historical city of Colmar is located next to it.
