London's STRANGE Easternmost Point

What is the most easterly part of London? In this video we take a tour of the exact area, and explore the history of how London itself came to be the size it is. We also take a look at what constitutes the borders of London, how it ties in with Essex and other neighbouring counties, and finally what the surrounding settlements look like.

All footage is my own, and originates from my flagship channel, 4K Explorer, which you can check out here: --

map of East of England

The East of England is one of the nine official regions of England. This region was created in 1994 and was adopted for statistics purposes from 1999. It includes the ceremonial counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Essex has the highest population in the region.

The population of the East of England region in 2018 was 6.24 million. Bedford, Luton, Basildon, Peterborough, Southend-on-Sea, Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Chelmsford and Cambridge are the region's most populous towns. The southern part of the region lies in the London commuter belt. The East of England region has the lowest elevation range in the UK. Twenty percent of the region is below mean sea level, most of this in North Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, and on the Essex Coast. Most of the remaining area is of low elevation, with extensive glacial deposits. The Fens, a large area of reclaimed marshland, are mostly in North Cambridgeshire. The Fens include the lowest point in the country in the village of Holme: 2.75 metres (9.0 ft) below mean sea level. This area formerly included the body of open water known as Whittlesey Mere. The highest point in the region is at Clipper Down at 817 ft (249 m) above mean sea level, in the far southwestern corner of the region in the Ivinghoe Hills.

Communities known as New Towns, responses to urban congestion and World War II destruction, appeared in Basildon and Harlow (Essex), as well as in Stevenage and Hemel Hempstead (Hertfordshire), in the 1950s and 1960s. In the late 1960s, the Roskill Commission considered Cublington in Buckinghamshire, Thurleigh in Bedfordshire, Nuthampstead in Hertfordshire and Foulness in Essex as locations for a possible third airport for London. A new airport was not built, but a former Royal Air Force base at Stansted, which had previously been converted to civilian use redeveloped and expanded in the following decades.

The East of England succeeded the standard statistical region East Anglia (excluding Essex, Hertfordshire or Bedfordshire then in the South East). The East of England civil defence region was identical to today's region.

East Anglia and overlap with Home Counties
Since post-Roman times (6th Century), England between the Wash and just south of the town of Colchester has been known as East Anglia, including the county traversing the west of this line, Cambridgeshire. The inclusion of Essex as part of East Anglia is open to debate, notably because it was a Saxon kingdom, separate from the kingdom of the East Angles.

Essex, despite meaning East-Saxons, previously formed part of the South East England, as did Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, a mixture of definite and debatable Home Counties. The earliest use of the term is from 1695. Charles Davenant, in An essay upon ways and means of supplying the war, wrote, The Eleven Home Counties, which are thought in Land Taxes to pay more than their proportion... then cited a list including these four. The term does not appear to have been used in taxation since the 18th century.Essex 1. Thurrock U.A.

UK Power Networks also looks after London and most of the South-East. Business Link in the East of England is next door to the headquarters of T-Mobile UK in Hatfield, at the roundabout of the A1057 and the A1001 on the Bishops Square Business Park. The region's Manufacturing Advisory Service is at Melbourn in Cambridgeshire, off the A10 and north of Royston. UK Trade & Investment for the region is in Histon with its international trade team based next to Magdalene College.

First look at the new Elizabeth Line | Heathrow to Central London

Did you know that there's a brand new train line here in London? It's called the Elizabeth Line (aka the Crossrail) and it opened TODAY, 24th May 2022. Come with me to take the first Elizabeth Line train from Heathrow Airport into Central London, stopping at Paddington station and then Tottenham Court Road station in central London.

What a historic moment, the vibes in London were great, with everyone super excited for a brand new line being unveiled and ready to be used to get to Heathrow, central London or for their daily commute around the city.

C2C (Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness) - DRIVERS EYE VIEW [Part 1/2]

A real treat for my viewers, a drivers eye view over the entire London, Tilbury & Southend Railway! Covering the entire system meant I needed to split them into two parts, so part 1 is where we travel from London Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness over the Barking-Pitsea direct line via Basildon.

We parallel some of the District line to Upminster from Bow and then run out into rural Essex, calling at all intermediate stations en route, explore Southend-on-Sea before continuing onwards to the terminus at Shoeburyness.

Filmed in real time back in September 2021 we have sunny skies throughout. My thanks go out to the c2c team for allowing me to film on their network, without their help this film wouldn't have been made! Of course narration and trackside shots have been included throughout this programme, so sit back relax enjoy the ride from London to Shoeburyness!

*Part 2 is currently being filmed and will be released later this year*

London's Least Frequent Bus Route - The 347

Out in East London in the Borough of Havering is a bus that only runs four times a day - a total of 24 times in a week. It heads across the Greater London boundary into Essex ... but where does it go? And who uses it? It's time to ride London's Least Frequent Bus Route!

Note - This doesn't include the 6xx School Buses or the 969 Mobility Service ( At somepoint, I will go and ride and make a video on the 969! )

The Mike Harris excellent Bus Map is here:

The TfL Consulation of the future of Route 347 is here :

Thorndon Country Park, Brentwood

Thorndon Country Park, Brentwood is a great place for families to visit. There is also a lot of great property on the market around this area, see here for more info

The Trafalgar St. James London Curio Collection by Hilton ★★★★★

The Trafalgar St. James, London Curio collection by Hilton is 1312 feet from Charing Cross Tube and Rail Station. Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus are just a 10-minute walk away, while the West End theaters are less than a mile from the hotel.

Each space has been artfully designed to offer guests a relaxed and memorable stay. Art Deco design shows the glamor of travel’s golden age, while the furnishings, bold color choices and playful ornamentation creates a relaxing atmosphere.

সাউথেন্ড অন সি - Southend On Sea London || Travel Vlog 3

Vlogging is favorite for all of us. I am fond of traveling. This is my first vlog in London, the place name is Southend on the sea. Southend-on-Sea is a resort town on the Thames Estuary in Essex, southeast England. The long Southend Pier is serviced by a small train and has a museum at its shore end. Nearby, Adventure Island is an amusement park with fairground rides and water slides. The Cliff Lift, a century-old funicular, clings to the hillside and offers coastal views. Sea Life Adventure aquarium is home to otters, clownfish, and turtles.
In this vlog, my brother and Babi and my sweet mamoni played role.

The First Contactless Only Station (No Oyster)

On the London Rail and Tube Map, Brookmans Park has appeared with a 'Contactless' symbol next to it, denoting it can be used for Contactless PAYG travel, but NOT Oyster cards!

You can still use a paper ticket - as always - of course, but there's more of these to come, with nine stations about to appear on the Tube Map which will also be Contactless Only/No Oyster. I went for a ride to Brooksmans Park to investigate.

With thanks to Mike from the 'Oyster Rail' website. For so much information about Oyster/Contacless and your questions answered, have a look at Mike's amazing site:
