Places to see in ( Mildenhall - UK )

Places to see in ( Mildenhall - UK )

Mildenhall is a small market town and civil parish in Suffolk, England. It is part of the non-metropolitan district of Forest Heath and has a population of 9,906 people, increasing to 10,315 at the 2011 Census. The town is near the A11 and is located 60 km (37 mi) north-west of county town, Ipswich.

Mildenhall centres on a market place with a 16th-century hexagonal market cross and town pump. The town's market is held here on every Friday and originated as a weekly chartered market in, it is believed, the 15th century. In 1934, Mildenhall was the start point of the MacRobertson Air Race to Melbourne, Australia. Mildenhall has its own radio station, ZACK FM (Forest Heath Public Radio), broadcasting on 105.3 FM; the transmitter is located at the top of St Mary's Church and radiates 100 W. The station format is classic and current hits plus specialist shows, and broadcasts 24 hours a day with a mix of music, news and information Mildenhall is mentioned in passing in the Pink Floyd song 'Let There Be More Light' on the 1968 album A Saucerful of Secrets as a speculated location for first contact between humanity and extraterrestrial life.

The town has a bus station which was completed in 2005. Regular bus services run to the neighbouring towns of Brandon, Bury St. Edmunds, Newmarket and Thetford. National Express operate daily coach services to Norwich, London (Victoria Coach Station), Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted Airports. Mildenhall railway station was the terminus of the Cambridge to Mildenhall railway until its closure in 1962.

Mildenhall has a Non-League football club [Mildenhall Town F.C.] who play at Recreation Way. It also has one of the region's leading cricket clubs, Mildenhall Cricket Club, playing at Wamil Way. In 2016 the 1XI won the Two Counties Championship and was promoted to the East Anglian Premier Cricket League. Notable players have included England international Tymal Mills, England Lions' Tom Westley and Essex Women's Lilly Reynolds. There is a leisure centre on Bury Road which is about 5–10 minutes away from the town square.

Mildenhall is perhaps most famous for the discovery in 1942 of the Mildenhall Treasure. Now at the British Museum, the treasure is a hoard of Roman silver objects buried in the 4th century. In 1946 the discovery was made public and the treasure acquired by the British Museum; Roald Dahl wrote an article about the find which was published firstly in the Saturday Evening Post, and later as The Mildenhall Treasure (a short story) in his short story collection The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More.

( Mildenhall - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Mildenhall . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Mildenhall - UK

Hidden History: Enclosure and Resistance in Soham, England

This is the first in an occasional series we'll be producing that highlights an interesting, but poorly known corner of English history. In this episode, we look at the history of local resistance to enclosure and fen drainage in the village of Soham, located in the Cambridgeshire fens, in England. Its an amazing story, and I hope that I've done it some justice.

Many facts and the photos used were sourced here:

Soham - Britain's Newest Railway Station

Britain's newest railway station is open - it's Soham in Cambridgeshire on the line between Ipswich and Peterborough. Operated by Greater Anglia, the first trains ran on the 13th December 2021 at six o'clock in the moring, but I went down for the much more reasonable eight o'clock and stayed for the official opening.

It becomes officially station number 2,570. It's station code is also 'SOJ' as all other codes that might have been better were already taken!

There's more about the 1944 Soham Railway Disaster here:

A Trip to Soham: Britain's NEWEST Station!

On Monday, 13th December 2021, a brand new station opened on Britain's rail network: Soham! The following day I took a trip down to have a look at what it had to offer!

Keep watching to see a travel montage of getting there, a look around the station, discussion about its future, and a couple hours' worth of trainspotting summarised into a couple of minutes!

Soham Station is located in Cambridgeshire, on the Peterborough - Ipswich line, and is served by Greater Anglia, in a two-hourly service per direction.

The New Lumo Train from London to Edinburgh

There's a new train operator in town! A few years ago, there was an offer for an Open Access Operator to run services up the East Coast Mainline, and starting with two return trips a day (this will later increase to five) that's exactly what LUMO are doing, with their 'one class only' five carriage train, it's a very cheap way to travel ...

The Brand New Soham Railway Station and a look around Soham.

Thank you very much to all my viewers for getting me to 4,000 subscribers!

Soham re-joined the railway station map on the 13th December 2021. Just over a week after opening I visited to see this new station and to explore Soham.

We start outside Ely Station waiting to for a freight to clear the section, we then catch a Stadler Flirt Class 755 and have a walk through the loco section, alighting at Soham.

We look at the station with it footbridge and talk about the Soham Rail disaster.

In the town we visit St Andrew's Church and have a look at the River Soham Lode.

Must Visit place once in a life - Wales | Visited famous Hindu temple in UK | Indian Hindu Culture

Scanda Vale is one of the must visit places in anyone's life who truly believes in God. After visiting this place as a person there are many changes in my life.

Skanda Vale is a non-denominational spiritual center and monastery located in Carmarthenshire, Wales, near the village of Llanpumsaint. Founded in 1973 by Guru Sri Subramanium, the monastery is inhabited and run by the Community of the Many Names of God, which also runs Somaskanda Ashram in Switzerland.

Thanks to @ShreeGeetaBhawanBirmingham for arranging this amazing coach trip.
