It does not only translate to glorious Urfa but it also truly is glorious because this province has so many stories to tell.

The city is located in south eastern Anatolia and the best time to come here is in spring or autum as this place gets extremely hot during the summer!

Sanliurfa is a place where different religions and cultures come together. Especially when you visit the historical sites you will find a close connection between Christianity and Islamic traditions.

Exploring the Non-Touristy City of Denizli, Turkey (27 dish turkish breakfast!)

Today, we explore Denizli, Turkey. Most people don't even have this place on their radar. We chose it initially because it was close to Pamukkale, but after today have a completely different view of it! It's super nice to be able to experience a city with almost no tourists. Feels more authentic in a way.

We had a 27 dish kahvalti (Turkish breakfast) with the nicest restaurant owners in the world, played with cute kittens, and rode the city's cable car.

WHO ARE WE??

A newly married couple from Nashville, TN, we decided that instead of starting our marriage the “normal” way by getting an apartment and launching our careers, we wanted to live a little differently. After our study abroad trip got cut short in 2020 (can you guess why?), we were left with an unshakable desire to get back and explore the world. We left May 28, 2022 with minimal savings and money from our wedding, and currently have the goal to travel for an entire year! We’re figuring it out as we go. Subscribe to follow our journey :D

Back to Turkey. A 13 hours odyssey from Sirnak to Nemrut Dagi - Turkey day 11 [S1-Ep.68]

What a long, beautiful but tough day! In this episode I'm moving from Sirnak to Mardin, or at least this was the original plan.
After having filled my eyes with the stunning beauty along the road D370 (and my heart with the boundless kindness of Turkish people), I reach Mardin to find out that the city is completely sold out, not a single bed available to sleep. It's already dark, but I have no choice but continue riding.
Temperatures are dropping quickly, so I have to stop from time to time at gas stations to warm myself up.
That night I met so many people on the road, drunk so much offered tea and made so many kilometers...
At the end I had to ride for a total of 13 hours and 550km, because there was no way to find a room anywhere and the area was not suitable for setting a tent.
The last stop was in Siverek, in a Hotel where they let me sleep few hours on an armchair in the lobby.

Walking The Streets of Diyarbakir ???????? Kind Kurdish People | Solo Travel | Turkey Travel Vlog (Ep. 18)

In today's Turkey Travel vlog, I visit a place called Diyarbakir. I came from a different city and the bus dropped me off far from the castle.

While waiting at the bus stop to find a new bus, this man told me that he was going to the same location as me and that he would take me there. He ended up paying for my ticket and refused to let me pay. Then he helped me find a cheap hotel. And after that, he said that he wanted to show me around the castle. It turned out to be an awesome adventure!

I'm a little bit frustrated because during this whole process, I accidentally recorded a time-lapse of our interaction, rather than record a normal video. So our entire conversation of one hour is lost forever. Hopefully that doesn't happen again!

The temperature was really hot on this particular day. I stopped at many locations to drink local and freshly squeezed lemonade.

One of the places I stopped was Hasan Pasha Inn. This is a pretty cool cafe area. The bricks and architecture are rather appealing to the eyes.

The more I travel East in Turkey, the more I fall in love with it. I keep meeting so many friendly and kind Kurdish people in this area. The next time I return to Turkey, I will probably spend my entire trip in the southeastern region.

THE MOST UNDERRATED CITY IN TURKEY (Izmir, Turkey | Day 1)

Today, we explore the city of Izmir. We originally chose to come here because it's a popular launching point to see the ruins of Ephesus, but it turns out it has much more to offer than just accommodations.

We visited Konak Pier, Konak Square, Kemeralti Bazaar, the Agora of Smyrna, and the Izmir Teleferik (a cable car).

It's the third largest city in Turkey, but still manages to feel like a smaller town. We didn't catch it on camera today, but the neighborhood we are staying in is so, so friendly. We've already become locals with a restaurant just around the corner, haha!

Meeting Many Kind Turkish People in Siverek ???????? | Solo Travel Turkey | Şanlıurfa Travel Vlog (Ep. 17)

In today's Turkey Travel vlog, I took a 2-day trip to a small city named Siverek, which is in Şanlıurfa province.

After finding a hotel, I asked the hotel manager what I should do while visiting his town. He mentioned 'Triangle Park'. I decided to go there after exploring the local market.

As I was walking through the market, a few kids noticed the camera and asked me a question. When I smiled and told them that I only speak english, they became curious...and started asking more questions. I tried to translate and explain what I was doing in their city.

This soon attracted the attention of other locals. And soon I was talking to people in a tobacco shop.

After chatting for a while, I said goodbye and walked to 'Triangle Park'. This turned out to be empty and rather boring. I waked all the way back to the market and beyond it to the mountain. It is labeled as a 'castle' even though there is currently no castle there.

This was also rather empty and boring. The title is rather misleading, I suppose.

The next day I explored a little bit. When walking back to my room, one of the kids noticed me and so I gave him and his friends some coins from other countries. He seemed pretty excited.

I packed my bags and, got on a bus, and took a trip to my next town.

Sanliurfa: Breaking down the Muslim stereotypes

On my 10th day of Lockdown travel through South-East Turkey, I arrived at what I thought to be the small town of Sanliurfa. This city has biblical importance as it`s the city of Abraham and has a gorgeous old town.

But what I discovered there was much more than just cultural facts, old buildings and a colorful mix of nationalities and religions. By meeting a local through CouchSurfing, he first handed trusted me with his experience on how Europeans perceive Muslims.

You`ll hear my thought on this topic...

ABOUT KURDISH HERITAGE

Kurdish Heritage focuses on creating awareness for Kurdistan's rich cultural and historic heritage. Kurdistan is a roughly defined geo-cultural region wherein the Kurdish people form a dominant majority. This region is located in what is known as the Cradle of Civilisation; a region where agriculture was first practiced, temples to Gods were first erected, and organised urban communities were first founded.

The word Kurd traces its origin back to the Gutian Dynasty of Akkad, which makes it one of the oldest known words in the world. Besides Kurds, other nations, such as the Assyrians and Armenians, have a long history in these lands as well.

Kurdistan is not only ethnically diverse, but is also home to a great variety of religions. The Kurds themselves are religiously very diverse; even though most are muslim, there are millions of Kurds who practice other religions. Such as Yezidism, Yarsanism, Alevism, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, and Christendom. The prophet Abraham is believed to have been born in Urfa, a Kurdish city in North-Kurdistan*. Urfa, or Riha, was known as Edessa in ancient times. Göbekli Tepe, the oldest known human-made structure, is located 12 kilometers north-east of Urfa. This archaeological site was discovered by a Kurdish shepherd in the early 1960's. This huge religious complex was built 7,000 years (!) before the Great Pyramid of Giza.

This was just a short, general introduction into what Kurdistan has to offer. Kurdistan is a very unknown region to the world, even though it is where humanity first organised itself. Our aim is to change that, despite the many expected obstacles we will face on our journey.
