Walking in Sivas: a city on the Anatolian Silk Road
Hi everyone,
We made this video when walking in Sivas in Central Anatolia. Sivas used to be an important city in the past because of its location at the junction point of the Persia and Baghdad caravan routes, hence you can still find many important monuments from that time all over the city.
Also, the national congress of 1919 was held in Sivas in which was decided to fight for the liberalization of Turkey, the building that was used is now the Ataturk and Congress Museum.

Description in Turkish : Sivas is a city in central Turkey and the seat of Sivas Province.
The city, which lies at an elevation of 1,278 metres (4,193 ft) in the broad valley of the Kızılırmak river, is a moderately-sized trade center and industrial city, although the economy has traditionally been based on agriculture. Rail repair shops and a thriving manufacturing industry of rugs, bricks, cement, and cotton and woolen textiles form the mainstays of the city's economy. The surrounding region is a cereal-producing area with large deposits of iron ore which are worked at Divriği.
Sivas is also a communications hub for the north–south and east–west trade routes to Iraq and Iran, respectively. With the development of railways, the city gained new economic importance as junction of important rail lines linking the cities of Ankara, Kayseri, Samsun, and Erzurum. The city is linked by air to Istanbul. The popular name Sebastian derives from Sebastianòs, Σεβαστιανός, meaning someone from the city.

Usak is a small city in the Aegean Region of Turkey. It is known for its hand-woven Usak carpets and its Tarhana soup. I must admit, I didn’t only come to Usak to see the city center or to try Tarhana Corbasi, even though it’s pretty good. But what’s really exciting about Usak are the places outside the city!
How lucky I am that I have my good old friend Limon who will, hopefully, bring me to all the breathtaking places in Usak. I made the perfect road trip map for Usak (available for members). I’m gonna cover 200km in the province for the next couple of days. A lot of nature and camping involved. Let’s go!

Sivas, is a city in central Turkey and the seat of Sivas Province. According to a 2011 estimate, its urban population is 655,297.
The city, which lies at an elevation of 4,193 feet (1,278 m) in the broad valley of the Kızılırmak river, is a moderately-sized trade center and industrial city, although the economy has traditionally been based on agriculture. Rail repair shops and a thriving manufacturing industry of rugs, bricks, cement, and cotton and woolen textiles form the mainstays of the city's economy. The surrounding region is a cereal-producing area with large deposits of iron ore which are worked at Divriği.
Sivas is also a communications hub for the north-south and east-west trade routes to Iraq and Iran, respectively. Sivas has a continental climate with warm and dry summers and cold and snowy winters. The driest months are July and August and the wettest are April and May.
A cultural hub as well as an industrial one, Sivas contains many examples of 13th-century Seljuk architecture. The Mavi Medrese from 1271, the Şifaiye Medresesi from 1218 and the Çifte Minare Medresesi from 1271, with its intricately carved facade and minarets, are among the most noteworthy monuments. The oldest surviving mosque is the Grand Mosque (Ulu Camii) completed in 1196 is famous for its simplicity. The city is also famous for its Medreses (Islamic seminaries). Gök Medresesi (the Celestial Madrasa; depicted on the obverse of the Turkish 500 lira banknote of 1927-1939ĺ and Mavi Medrese, Sifaiye Medresesi, on the other hand, was completed earlier, on the eve of the second wave of Turkic immigration to Anatolia, in 1218 and the with its intricately carved facade and minarets are among the most noteworthy edifices carries on the traditional Seljuk Medrese plan.
The city also contains some fine examples of the Ottoman architectural style. Kurşunlu Hamamı (Leaden Bath) which was completed in 1576, is the largest Turkish bath in the city and it contains many details from the classical Ottoman bath building. Behrampaşa Hanı (Caravansaray), was completed in 1573 and it is famous for the lion motifs around its windows.
Atatürk Congress and Ethnography Museum (Atatürk Kongre ve Etnografya Müzesi) is a museum with two sections. One is a dedicated to the Ottoman heritage of Sivas. The other is to the Sivas Congress, one of the pivotal moments in the Turkish national movement.

The modern heart of the city is Hükümet Square (Hükümet Meydanı, also called Konak Meydanı) located just next to the Governor's mansion. This area is also home to many of the city's high end hotels and restaurants. The city's shoppers usually head to Atatürk Avenue.

SIVAS, capitala madraselor din inima Anatoliei! Ce gust are ciorba locala din picior de oaie ????
În drumul nostru spre sud-estul Turciei, am decis să facem o scurtă oprire pentru a vedea cum se desfășoară viața de zi cu zi într-un oraș de provincie. Deși vorbim despre un orășel mic, situat în inima Anatoliei, Sivas este un loc încărcat de istorie și povești cu caravane. Situat la punctul de intersecție al rutelor caravanelor din Persia și Bagdad, orașul a fost cândva un centru comercial important.
Aici am făcut cunoștință cu primele madrase și ne-am lăsat impresionați de frumusețea lor. Am descoperit un oraș colorat și plin de viață, iar atitudinea localnicilor față de turiști nu ne-a dezamăgit nici de această dată ????????
În ceea ce privește bucătăria orașului am degustat două dintre ciorbele locale! Prima a fost Kelle Paça, o ciorbă realizată din diferite părți de vacă sau oaie, printre care se numără capul, picioarele și stomacul. Bucățile de carne se curăță, se țin în apă rece pentru a scăpa de mirosul urât și se fierb timp de 10h, până când apa devine gelatinoasă și carnea se separă de oase. Nu se adaugă sare sau condimente în timpul procesului de fierbere. A doua, Ayak Paça, este o ciorbă realizată din picioarele animalelor de sacrificiu. Este una dintre supele populare și consumate frecvent în rândul turcilor. Se consumă cu usturoi și oțet, mai ales în sezonul de iarnă datorită beneficiilor pe care le are asupra organismului ????????????
Spre norocul nostru am nimerit într-o zi festivă pentru oraș și din acest motiv experiența noastră a fost mult peste așteptări. Ne-a plăcut Sivas!
