Bonn, Germany, walking tour 4K 60fps - A walk in a beautiful German city
Today's tour is in Bonn, Germany. A city on the banks of the Rhine located in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, with a population of over 300,000. About 24 km south-southeast of Cologne. It is a university city, the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven and the capital of West Germany from 1949 to 1990. Bonn was the seat of government of reunited Germany from 1990 to 1999.
Today, we will walk together in the city on a busy day through its main streets and passing by its attractions and to experience the daily life atmosphere.

Bonn in Western Germany is a Fantastic City! Aug 2022 Summer Walk in 4K
Here I am walking in the city of Bonn in Western Germany in August 2022. We start our walk at the picturesque Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) which is in front of the market place. Then we continue to Münsterplatz where you can see this years Wine Festival. Afterwards we will explore various streets and alleys within the city center before reaching the Beethoven House. The house at Bonngasse 20, where composer Ludwig van Beethoven was born in December 1770, is one of the few remaining houses in the city built in the 18th century. Its baroque stone facade was erected over cellars dating back to the 12th or 13th century. Bonn, which used to be the former capital of West Germany, is one of Germany's oldest cities. From 1597 to 1794, the city was the capital of the Electorate of Cologne, and residence of the Archbishops and Prince-electors of Cologne. From 1949 to 1990, the city was the capital of West Germany, and Germany's present constitution, the Basic Law, was declared in the city in 1949. From 1990 to 1999, Bonn served as the seat of government – but no longer capital – of reunited Germany. The city is also famously known as the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven.

The Federal City of Bonn is a city on the banks of the River Rhine in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and is situated about 24 km (15 mi) south-southeast of Cologne. Bonn is in the southernmost part of the Rhine-Ruhr region, Germany's largest metropolitan area, with over 11 million inhabitants. Because of a political compromise following German reunification, the German federal government maintains a substantial presence in Bonn, and the city is considered a second, unofficial, capital of the country. Bad Godesberg is a municipal district of Bonn, southern North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. From 1949 to 1999, while Bonn was the capital of West Germany and later Germany, most foreign embassies were in Bad Godesberg. To read more about Bad Godesberg, click here: .
Königswinter is situated on the right bank of the Rhine, opposite Bad Godesberg, at the foot of the Siebengebirge. It covers an area of 76.19 square kilometres which makes it the fourth-largest conurbation in the Rhein-Sieg district. It contains over 80 townships and boroughs, divided over the municipal districts of Stieldorf, Niederdollendorf, Oberdollendorf, Heisterbacherrott, Ittenbach, Oberpleis, Eudenbach, Thomasberg and Königswinter proper. This film features an extensive and detailed exploration of Bonn, Bad Godesberg and Königswinter. The film begins at Boon Hauptbahnhof, before taking a walking tour of the city centre and Sudstadt areas, from here the tram (stadtbahn) is taken to Hochkreuz, where the journey continues on foot through Gronau, and along the River Rhine including the Freizeitpark Rheinaue.
The journey south, crosses the border back into Hochkreuz, before going through Plittersdorf, and Rüngsdorf to get the ferry across the River Rhine to Königswinter. Here a couple of brief stops for food and a swim at the Maritim Hotel are followed by a walk around the city centre, and a ride up and down the Drachenfels Railway, where views across North Rhine Westphalia and Rhineland Palatinate are taken in.
After Königswinter, the tram is taken up the East bank of the River Rhine, back to Hochkreuz, where there is a small detour on foot through the Maritim Hotel, Bonn, before taking the tram back to Bonn Hauptbahnhof, and finally the train out of Bonn North. This film was made over three separate days.

Driving in Germany: Bundesstraße B9 from Sinzig to Bonn
In this video you can ride along on Bundesstraße B9 from Sinzig to Bonn in Western Germany. This is the last segment of B9 along the Rhine river that I filmed on my journey from the Mainz area to the Ruhr area.
Sinzig, near to Remagen, is a mid-sized city not too far from Bonn and the Southern Ruhr area. Bonn was once the capital of Western Germany during the times the country was divided between West and East after the second world war. It therefore still says 'Bundeshauptstadt' on the city limit signs.
Bonn isn't as large as Cologne but has well over 300.000 inhabitants and is a big city. You can continue the drive in a different video on the Autobahn in the direction of Cologne:

Driving in Germany: Bundesstraße B9 from Koblenz to Sinzig
In this video you can ride along on Bundesstraße B9 from Koblenz to Sinzig alongside the Rhine river. When heading North the first part of B9 after leaving Koblenz is a controlled access 2 x 2 expressway until the town of Bad Breisig.
Koblenz is a larger city in the area so there is quite some traffic from surrounding towns and cities flowing in and out of Koblenz every day, explaining the 2 x 2 alignment. Andernach is one of the larger satellite cities being bypassed by the B9.
There is however a bottleneck as you can clearly see at the town of Bad Breisig. Although at the time of this video worsened through a local construction site, I can imagine that it's not ideal to have a fairly big Bundesstraße like the B9 running straight through the town. We pretty much barely moved for about 30 minutes.
We continue the drive to Sinzig, a smaller city that is about half way the distance between the cities of Koblenz and Bonn. In a future video I will also feature the B9 segment from Sinzig to Bonn.

For hundreds of years in this region around Cologne, Bonn and Aachen, young men have traditionally placed a so-called Maibaum or decorated birch tree in their beloved's yard in the night before May 1st.
The May tree custom was originally part of an old tradition called Mailehenbrauch. This was a form of village matchmaking dating back to the 17th century.

???? Sinzig is a town in the district of Ahrweiler, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the river Rhine, about 5 km south-east of Remagen and 25 km south-east of Bonn, and it has approximately 20,000 inhabitants (2004)
Sinzig received its first official recognition in 762 A.D. On 10 July that year, King Pippin the Younger, the father of Charlemagne, presented a certificate of his decree in the Palace of Sinzig (Sentiaco Palacio), officially recognizing the town as Sentiacum.
Abraham of Augsburg; a convert to Judaism, along with 61 other Jews, were slain in a pogrom in Sinzig in 1265.
Sinzig first received its rights as a town on 9 October 1267.
Because of the influence Emperor Frederick Barbarossa had on the town, it is nicknamed a Barbarossa town. Ivan Turgenev immortalized the town in his 1857 novella Asya.
Twice, the medieval town, which since 1300 has been protected by a massive wall, was almost entirely destroyed by fires, one in 1583 and another in 1758. Little of the wall now remains, as industrialization and urban development led to its nearly complete loss at the end of the 19th century. After World War II, Sinzig experienced a population explosion and soon evolved into an industrial town.
With the district reform of 1969, Bad-Bodendorf, Franken, Koisdorf, Löhndorf, and Westum became provinces of Sinzig. Today, Sinzig, together with the town of Remagen, have developed a modern consumer centre, with multiple schools and shopping centres.
