Silopi is a district of Şırnak Province in Turkey's Southeastern Anatolia Region, close to the borders of Iraq and Syria. The district, composed of Silopi center, 3 depending
townships with own municipalities and 23 villages has an urban population of 73,400 (2009 census).[3]
The Habur frontier gate, the only major crossing between Turkey and Iraq, is situated within the district of Silopi and is a decisive factor in the region's economy, both in Turkey and in beyond the Iraqi border. Queues of lorries waiting for customs and security clearance that sometimes reach a few dozens of kilometers on the motorway connecting the two countries are a common sight. The Khabur River, which carries the same name as the frontier gate, crosses in the district territory and joins the Tigris here. The Kirkuk-Ceyhan Oil Pipeline also crosses the district.
On August 7, 2015, clashes between Turkish security forces and the Kurdish militant PKK group may have killed three people. Government reports claimed terrorists were killed,[4][5] while pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party lawmaker Faysal Sariyildiz said that the casualties were civilians and that he had seen no sign of armed militants, according to Reuters.[6] Conflict between PKK and the Turkish government in this region has escalated since late July 2015.

THE LONG JOURNEY FROM RIZE TO AMASRA ???? // TURKEY Bus Travel
Day 65 of our new life as full time travelers // Recorded on November 9th 2021
What a travel day!! For some reason, we couldn't find a direct bus from Rize to Amasra that wasn't an overnight bus, so we decided to do this instead... was it the right choice? I still don't know!
It was definitely more entertaining and less boring than the overnight bus, but it was equally exhausting! We set foot in 4 different cities and had to do 7 segments (A car, 5 buses and an airplane). It took us almost 12 hours to get from Rize to Amasra, so it was for sure a long journey. Still, we promise that you'll forget about it the next day, so it's totally worth it.
This is how Turkey bus travel looks like though! The Turkish bus system works great! There are always many options and you don't even have to book your tickets in advance. Trust us, we took MANY buses in Turkey during our 3 month journey. Also, we have videos about each trip if you are interested. Just check out our playlist called: 'Travel Day Vlogs'

Back to Turkey. A 13 hours odyssey from Sirnak to Nemrut Dagi - Turkey day 11 [S1-Ep.68]
What a long, beautiful but tough day! In this episode I'm moving from Sirnak to Mardin, or at least this was the original plan.
After having filled my eyes with the stunning beauty along the road D370 (and my heart with the boundless kindness of Turkish people), I reach Mardin to find out that the city is completely sold out, not a single bed available to sleep. It's already dark, but I have no choice but continue riding.
Temperatures are dropping quickly, so I have to stop from time to time at gas stations to warm myself up.
That night I met so many people on the road, drunk so much offered tea and made so many kilometers...
At the end I had to ride for a total of 13 hours and 550km, because there was no way to find a room anywhere and the area was not suitable for setting a tent.
The last stop was in Siverek, in a Hotel where they let me sleep few hours on an armchair in the lobby.

We tried to make our trip a little bit more enjoyable and played a game to keep ourselves entertained and also to share the whole experience with you. All in all, the overnight bus experience wasn't that bad, but it was exhausting and we are not sure if we would do it again.
