Places to see in ( Sevenoaks - UK )

Places to see in ( Sevenoaks - UK )

Sevenoaks is a town and civil parish situated south-east of London in western Kent, England. Sevenoaks is served by a commuter main line railway and is 21 miles (34 km) from London Charing Cross. Sevenoaks is the principal town of the Sevenoaks district, followed by Swanley and Edenbridge.

A settlement was recorded in the 13th century, when a market was established. Construction of Knole House in the 15th century helped develop the village. Sevenoaks became part of the modern communications network when one of the early turnpikes was opened in the 18th century; the railway was relatively late in reaching it.

In the 21st century, it has a large commuting population, although the nearby Fort Halstead defence installation is a major local employer. Located to the south-east of the town is Knole Park, within which lies Knole House. Educational establishments in the town include the independent Sevenoaks School and Knole Academy.

Sevenoaks is situated at the junction of two main routes from the north before traffic climbs over the Greensand Ridge which crosses Kent from west to east; that situation is similar to Maidstone and Ashford. That road was one of the earliest in the county to be turnpiked in 1709, because of the clay soils.

Sevenoaks, like much of West Kent, is characterised by high levels of economic activity and a skilled resident workforce. A large proportion of that workforce commutes elsewhere to their places of employment, mostly to central London. Knole Park is a 1,000-acre (4 km²) deer park with several million trees. In its centre is Knole House, the home of the Sackville family (the Earls of Dorset) since it was given to them by Queen Elizabeth I in 1577. The estate is owned and maintained by the National Trust, although the Sackvilles still live there. It is frequently visited by the school in town.

Riverhill House and gardens are located directly to the south of Knole Park, on the southern edge of Sevenoaks. The house and gardens, which were first built in the 16th century, are privately owned by Jane Margaret Rogers but are periodically open to the public. Sevenoaks is located at the junction of two ancient roads heading south from London and Dartford to the Weald. In 1710 part of one of the roads - from Sevenoaks through Tonbridge and Pembury to Tunbridge Wells.

( Sevenoaks - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Sevenoaks . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Sevenoaks - UK

Best 10 Places To Visit In Kent 2023, England

Best 10 Places To Visit In Kent 2023, England
Often referred to as the Garden of England due to its endless acres of orchards and lush gardens, the county of Kent offers no end of fun things to do for those willing to wander a little further off the beaten track.

Not only is Kent well-known for its relatively mild climate, it also boasts some of England's oldest and most important historic attractions. It was in Kent that the Romans launched their invasion of England some 55 years before the birth of Christ, and where, over 500 years later, the Christian faith was first introduced to the island nation. As a result of these events, you'll often find Roman ruins brushing up against important religious sites, as is the case in the cathedral city of Canterbury.

Kent also boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in England. Visit the east coast of Kent, and you'll see the famous White Cliffs of Dover looking out towards neighboring France, visible in the distance. This same coastline is home to some 50 or more Kentish beaches, most of them easy day trips from London.

10 Greenest Towns in the UK

What are the greenest towns tin the United Kingdom? As many as 7 of the greenest towns in England are among the 10 greenest towns in the UK. This is not surprising at all. England is only being prevented from being equated with the entire United Kingdom. Thus, for records purposes and the sake of clarity, don’t be surprised to find towns and cities in England dominating listings of bests or worsts of towns and cities in the UK.
Other UK towns that slug it out with the towns in England on this list of the 10 greenest towns in Britain are Falkirk in Scotland, Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, and Bridgend also in Wales. It appears other regions of the United Kingdom have something to learn from England about nature and its preservation.
10. Barnsley, England
The first to be considered among the 10 greenest towns in the UK is Barnsley, a large market town and the fourth-largest settlement in South Yorkshire. This town doesn’t allow inappropriate development within its areas and the conditions in building permits are stricter. By doing this, it has been able to preserve its green space.
The River Dearne Valley and Worsbrough Mill Park and reservoir are just two examples of efforts that the town is making to be one of the greenest towns in both England and the entire United Kingdom. As of 2017, it has some 23,050 hectares of green belt which was first defined in 1979. Its rural landscape features encourage recreation and leisure interests.
9. Stafford, England
Stafford, a county town of Staffordshire in the West Midlands, lying about 24 kilometers north of Wolverhampton, 24 kilometers south of Stoke-on-Trent, and 39 kilometers northwest of Birmingham, is the next of the 10 greenest towns in the UK.
The nature reserves in Stafford include Astonfields Balancing Lakes, a local nature reserve of two lakes constructed for flood protection. There’s also Doxey Marshes, a wet grassland habitat about three kilometers northwest of the town center managed by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. It’s 150 hectares of nature reserve and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It's home to wading birds and wildfowl. Kingsmead Marsh and Radford Meadows are also green spaces in this town.
8. Falkirk, Scotland
Falkirk, a large town in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. The town which is 37.5 kilometers northwest of Edinburgh and 33 kilometers northeast of Glasgow is doing great in maintaining a wide range of greenspace.
It has an initiative called Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN). The unrivaled network aims at transforming Central Scotland into a place where the environment adds value to the economy and people’s lives are enriched by its quality. GSGN has no peer in Europe as a green space initiative that has been embedded in all relevant plans, policies, and strategies. The result of this is seen in the green revolution in the town.
7. Daventry, England
Yet another town on this list is Daventry, a town that is close to the border with Warwickshire with a population of 25,026 as of 2011. As the sixth-largest town in Northamptonshire, it’s one of the 10 greenest towns in the UK.

10 Best Small Towns to Live in England

What are the best towns to live in England? Living in England means different things to different people. For some people, it’s either London or nowhere else whenever it comes down to the best places to live in England. Others would consider some other big cities if London is taken out. But did you know there are some who actually desire to live in small towns in England? Please don’t jump to any conclusion as to why they choose to live in a small town. It might not be due to just economic reasons. As you’d see on our list of 12 best small towns to live in England, certain towns have charms and allure that can cause a lover of beauty and nature to consider making them home.
10. Windsor, Berkshire
The next of the best small towns to live in England is Windsor in Berkshire. This town, for centuries, remains a popular destination for tourists living in England or the entire United Kingdom and for tourists from all parts of Europe. Those who chose to live in this town may have been attracted by the added fame it once received as the royal wedding venue for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. You could find accommodation in Windsor Castle, the world’s largest occupied castle. Since it’s a weekend and holiday home for the Queen, those living in Windsor consider it a privilege to walk the streets with her majesty without visiting Buckingham palace.
9. Frome, Somerset
Now, let’s shift our attention to Frome as one of the 12 best small towns to live in England. We don’t need a lot of explanation that transcends being voted as one of the best places to live in the UK. Though small, this town has quality schools considered one of the best to cater to the needs of families intending to live in a small town in England. Many people living in modern homes in big cities crave living in a small town in a historic and architecturally fascinating building. There are plenty of these in the center of the town of Frome lined with many independent shops.
8. Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire
This town is home to the famous Henley Royal Regatta. This boat race coming up in early July always gives the residents of this beautiful spot which was established as a market town in the 12th century the opportunity to interface with thousands of visitors. Henley-on-Thames is chocolaty. Having a respite at Chocolate Café, a local hot spot known for chocolate treats, either hot or cold, is one reason to consider this town one of the best places to live in England. It’s a place people enjoy good cardiovascular health because walking the Thames Path National Trail is a regular part of life in this town.
7. Bakewell, Derbyshire
We next turn to Bakewell a small market town in the Dales of Derbyshire County. Bakewell too is among the best small towns to live in England. We agree with the popular opinion that ranks Bakewell well on the basis of its three highly rated principal primary schools, secondary schools, and preparatory school and college. Another one of the attractions making Bakewell one of the most popular small towns in England is its Peak District National Park and Derbyshire Dales. Living in this small town affords you a chance of finding a home in these prestigious locations with their charming stone cottages, attractive rugged moorland, and green valleys.

10 Most Hated Towns in England

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

Sevenoaks: Knole to Ightham Mote countryside walk (National Trust)

On Easter Sunday, shortly after the UK government eased lockdown restrictions, I made the short journey to Sevenoaks. I started the day off at Knole Park - a magnificent deer park on the outskirts of town. From there, I went hiking through the English countryside, making my way down to the National Trust's Ightham Mote (pronounced i-tem) which is a wonderful medieval house built with a moat around it... in the 14th century!! This is one of the most perfect day trips from London as Sevenoaks is just 25 minutes on the train from central London. From Sevenoaks train station, Knole Deer Park is about 15 minutes on foot, through the pretty town. This is my 3rd Travel Vlog in my 'Spring in South East England' series.

Sevenoaks Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Kent, just marginally outside the M25 (the circular motorway that contains London within), is the town of Sevenoaks.

The name 'Sevenoaks' is believed to have originated from the Saxon word 'Seouenaca', a name given circa 800 AD to a small chapel near seven oak trees in Knole Park in the southeast end of the town.

The settlement was formed around the junction of two main roads - one going to London and the other to Dartford on the Thames estuary. This made it a suitable location for a market, and thus it became a town in the mid 13th century. In 1432 Sevenoaks School opened, which is said to be the second oldest secular school in the UK, behind Oswestry School.

The oak trees in Knole Park, from which the town gets its name, have been replaced several times over the centuries. In 1902 seven oaks were planted in commemoration of the coronation of King Edward VII. In 1987 six of the seven trees were blown down in a hurricane (the Michael Fish don't worry there isn't hurricane). The surviving tree was named King Oak, and seven additional trees were planted, then vandalised, then planted again. So technically Sevenoaks is eight oaks.
