????Centre Penitenciari d'Homes La Model????

The Barcelona Men's Penitentiary Center (Centre Penitenciari d'Homes La Model in Catalan) , popularly known as the Model Prison , is a former prison center located in the Catalan city of Barcelona ( Spain ), which has been closed since 2017. It is located between Rosellón, Provence, Nicaragua and Entenza streets, occupying the extension of two blocks from the Ensanche .

The prison was built between 1881 and 1904 with an architectural project by Salvador Viñals and José Doménech y Estapá . The set had a radial plan, with a central body covered with a dome in which six ships converged . In the central body was the control center or panopticon, which was accessed after passing three locks. It had other annexed buildings for various services: kitchen, dining rooms, warehouses, workshops, commissaries, infirmary, nursing home, chapel, management and administration, school, gym and theater. Next to the entrance there was a waiting room and booths for visiting relatives of the prisoners. There was also a garden and several patios.
La Modelo was inaugurated on June 9, 1904 and is dean of Catalan prisons, having become a symbol and testimony of the history of the autonomous community. Its original name was Cellular Prison, but informally it was given the name of Model because it should serve as a model for the new prison reform undertaken in those years; over time the name became official.
The motto of its Construction Board ( In severitate humanitas ) revealed a new penitentiary conception that was consolidated among the bourgeois society of the time. In accordance with this conception, punishment was no longer conceived as revenge or intimidation and became, increasingly, a mechanism of social reintegration. For decades the site was a symbol of the Francoist repression in Catalonia.
In addition to the common prisoners, it was an internment center for political dissidents, especially during the Primo de Rivera and Franco dictatorships , as well as participants in strikes and protest movements such as the Tragic Week (1909), the strike of La Canadiense (1919) or the streetcar strike (1951). Characters like Francisco Ferrer Guardia , Lluís Companys , Salvador Seguí , Helios Gómez or Lluís Maria Xirinacs were imprisoned here . Also here was executed the vile club Salvador Puig Antich(1974). It was also a center for internment of homosexuals , who were persecuted during the Franco dictatorship. In 1973, 113 members of the Assembly of Catalonia were also imprisoned here .
In its 113 years of history it was only empty on two occasions, at the beginning and at the end of the Spanish Civil War : on July 19, 1936 the prisoners (851) were released by the anarchists ; on January 23, 1939, several hundred prisoners were taken by the Military Information Service (SIM) to the French border, some were released and others shot; on January 26, hours before the Francoist troops entered, the rest of the inmates were freed, among whom were prisoners from the rebel side and members of the CNT and the POUM.
In 1984 the prison became famous after the riot of prisoners and the subsequent escape carried out by Juan José Moreno Cuenca El Vaquilla.
The center definitively ceased its activity on June 8, 2017, a day before the 113th anniversary of its inauguration. From July 3 to November 26, 2017 it was open to the public for free visits.

Tiny Tour | Montserrat Spain | A 1000 year old Monastery in the mountains 2020

Hi guys, today we visited the monastery of Santa María de Montserrat (in Catalan , Monestir de Santa Maria de Montserrat ). it is a Benedictine abbey located in the mountain of Montserrat , belongs to the region of Bages, in the province of Barcelona, at a height of 720 meters above the level of the sea. It is a symbol for Catalonia and has become a pilgrimage point for believers and a must for tourists.
In 1025, Oliba, Abbot of Ripoll and Bishop of Vic, together founded a new monastery at the hermitage of Santa Maria de Montserrat. The little monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who contributed to the spread of stories of miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin.
In 1409 the monastery of Montserrat became an independent abbey. From 1493 to 1835, a period in which the monastery underwent great reforms, growing and increasing in splendour, Montserrat was part of the Valladolid Congregation.

????Dona i Ocell????

Dona i Ocell ([ˈdɔ.nə i uˈseʎ], Woman and Bird) is a 22-metre high sculpture by Joan Miró located in the Parc Joan Miró in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The sculpture was covered in tiles by the artist's collaborator Joan Gardy Artigas.
The sculpture is part of an artwork trilogy commissioned from Miró to welcome visitors to Barcelona.

The concrete structure was formally opened in 1982 or 1983 (sources vary) and it was one of Joan Miró's last large sculptures which he constructed with the help of his friend and collaborator Joan Gardy Artigas. Miró was not able to attend the opening as he was too ill and he died less than a year later.

It was Miró's design but Artigas was responsible for adding the tiles as he had done for Miró's earlier mural in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Dona i Ocell was part a publicly commissioned trilogy that was intended to welcome visitors to Barcelona as they arrived by the sea, from the air or in this case by land. Car passengers that arrive in Barcelona can see the strong colours of the tiles which are indicative of Miró's style. This work was the last of the three sculptures that welcomed Barcelona's tourists. The first was at the airport and it was commissioned in 1968. The intermediate work was a large mosaic in La Rambla in Barcelona.

????Portal Miralles????

The Portal Miralles is a fence and access gate to Casa Miralles, the work of the modernist architect Antoni Gaudí . It is located at number 55 Paseo Manuel Girona in Barcelona . It was commissioned in 1901 from Gaudí by the industrialist Hermenegild Miralles i Anglès.

Mr. Miralles had a construction accessories industry, specialized in pressed wood wainscoting and chair seats , as well as a type of pressed cardboard tiles . Gaudí had collaborated with him on several of his works, such as the smoker in Casa Vicens and the decoration of the Bar Torino. He also experimented with the presses of Mr. Miralles to calculate the strength of materials in several of his works, such as Casa Milà . For all these reasons, Miralles commissioned Gaudí to build his house, on land he owned in Sarrià , which he had bought from Eusebi Güell, the patron of Gaudí. The architect designed the fence wall and the access door of the farm, but finally did not take care of the house, which was built by his assistant, Domingo Sugrañes Gras , who carried out a project in the shape of a Valencian barrack . What was built by Gaudí reveals a certain Baroque influence , in parallel to the Casa Calvet that the architect had made shortly before.
Currently part of the wall is preserved, wavy in shape and made with white trencadís and topped by a metal mesh fence with spikes on the top, which is shaped like a fishing net; as well as the door, made with a large lobed arch and crowned with the classic three-dimensional gaudinian wrought iron cross (the one that currently exists is a replica, since the original is kept in the Gaudí House-Museum in Park Güell ). It also has a canopy for protection against the rain , as well as a small original iron gate.
In 2000, a restoration of the portal was carried out, a circumstance used to inaugurate the sculpture A Antoni Gaudí , a full-length, life-size portrait of the architect, made by the sculptor Joaquim Camps .
At present, it is used as a fence for some buildings built in 1968 by the architect José Antonio Coderch de Sentmenat , known as Les Cotxeres (The garages) because the trams of Barcelona have been kept on this site .

Walking in Barcelona: Jardins de la Tamarita, Spain ????????, 4k,

Walking in the beautiful Jardins de la Tamarita in Barcelona, Spain ????????, 4k, Summer , Nature
The Tamarita gardens, located in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district of Barcelona, were made by Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí in 1918.
History
The origin of the gardens is found in a stately estate that belonged to the Craywinckels, an aristocratic family of Belgian origin that settled in Barcelona in the 18th century. The farm was acquired at the beginning of the 20th century by the cotton industrialist Llorenç Mata. His nephew, Alfred Mata Julià, entrusted the project to Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí, assistant to Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier in the landscaping of the Montjuïc mountain, and who later became director of Parks and Gardens in Barcelona. The estate was almost abandoned after the Civil War, until it became public property in 1993. Between 1994 and 1995, a thorough restoration was undertaken by Antoni Falcón. In summer, classical music concerts are held in the parks.

Description
The gardens are divided into two areas: the gardens of the manor house and a forest hollow, fitted out as a children's play area. The most outstanding part is the one created by Rubió as a recreational garden, with various areas that combine areas of flowerbeds and hedges with fountains and statues, in two different styles: to the right, a landscape-style garden with a romantic setting, and to the left, a classicist garden. At the entrance there is a pond with a fountain, figures of sleeping lions and climbing plants of the type Muehlenbeckia complexa; from here starts a path that leads to a series of squares around the stately home, the work of Melcior Vinyals, which currently houses the Blanquerna Foundation. In the main square in front of the building, four sculptures stand out that should have been dedicated to the continents (except Oceania), the work of Virginio Arias, although the one in Europe was not made or has been lost; in its place is a statue of a Roman general. There is also a fountain with sculpted children, while in one of the surrounding squares there is a fountain with sculpted frogs that act as jets and, in another, a waterfall made of rockery and covered with seashells.
