10. Swanage, Dorset, England
The tenth place we’ll consider as one the best seaside towns in the UK is Swanage in South West of England. The town has been a popular seaside resort since Victorian times. Truly, this beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire deserves a slot here as one of the most popular in the UK. It used to be a fishing village before developing into a popular resort with a very large beach that is playing a remarkable role in popularizing it.
It is quieter than most of its neighbors and most of the other coastal towns. This is because it has enough accommodations, seats, and transportation. There is no need for any rush here. You can just go there and enjoy your peace.

What are the poorest places in the UK? The last thing that’ll come to mind when the UK is mentioned is poverty. It’s not among the countries you’ll associate poverty with. This should be clearly noted as we begin. Yet, not every part of Great Britain has the affluence of London, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Some places in the UK are poor. We’re here to show you the 10 poorest places in the UK.
These places are the same neighborhood with the biggest shortages of basic social infrastructure and facilities such as playgrounds, parks, pubs, shops, and sports centers. You’ll find some of them among the areas left behind in England, Wales, and Scotland. Authorities have to do something about these 10 poorest places in the UK.
10. Newport, Wales
We’re starting in Wales. One of the poorest places in the UK is a city and county borough in Gwent in Wales. We are referring to Newport which is situated on the River Usk close to the river’s confluence with the Severn Estuary. It is 19 kilometers northeast of Cardiff. Newport’s population of 145,700 at the 2011 census notwithstanding, all is not going on fine with the city. It can’t get past its nagging poverty.
Imagine this: of Newport’s 95 neighborhoods in Newport, 23 currently rank among the most deprived in Wales. Do the math, and you will find out that this is about 24 percent of the authority. That’s the biggest percentage of deprivation in the country.
9. Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland
Wales doesn’t have a monopoly on poor places. Scotland has, at least, one of the 10 poorest places in the UK. You’ll find the ninth on our list in Inverclyde. This is Greenock, a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area. The town with a population of 44,248 is located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland.
As proof of how gripping the poverty state of this town is, its population reduced by almost 3,000 within 10 years. In a report that shows how poor some parts of the nations are, Greenock tops the list. In the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020, Greenock has the highest number of deprived areas in Scotland.
8. Halton, England
England too has some of the poorest places in the UK and the first of these on this list is the eighth poorest place in the UK, Halton. The district and unitary authority that registers its name on this list has a borough status in Cheshire.
When you consider its ranking as one of the worst areas in England and Wales by a global children's charity that also ranks Halton as one of the worst areas in England and Wales to be a girl, you will understand why Halton slipped into the rank of the 20 most deprived areas in England. Other indices like life expectancy, children poverty which is 25 percent, health inequality, and unemployment rates are not in a positive light for this district.
7. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
We’re back in Wales to find Merthyr Tydfil, the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, as the seventh of the 10 poorest places in the UK. The town administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is about 37 kilometers north of Cardiff. Often called Merthyr, the town believed to be named after Tydfil, daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, has a population of 43,820.
This town seems to be hitting above its weight as the go-to place for those looking for gloomy job news. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. Even though it's an iron producer, poor transportation service is the bane of this town that makes it so poor.
6. South Elmsall, England
South Elmsall is a small town and a civil parish lying to the east of Hemsworth with a population of 6,519. When it comes to safety, this town is among the most dangerous of small towns, villages, and cities in West Yorkshire. It’s faring badly in income deprivation, employment deprivation, education, skills and training deprivation, health deprivation, and disability. The 2021 overall crime rate in South Elmsall was 111 crimes per 1,000 people Living in this small town, you will be on a downward spiral of ill health and at the risk of premature death or the impairment of quality of life caused by poor physical or mental health.

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

If prudent management of resources and respect for human dignity is put at the fore of all government policies and programs, there won’t be anyone living in miserable places as there would be no miserable place to live. The attention here is on England that has plenty of glamorous places. Anyone that has ever been to the most miserable places to live in England will develop choler for the affluence of the best places in England. These most miserable places to live in England are essentially the most depressing places to live in England. Let’s now analyze the places other people accept or are forced to accept as their home.
10. Harrow
We want to start with Harrow, a large town in Greater London which is the main settlement of the London Borough of Harrow. It lies about 9.5 miles northwest of Charing Cross and about 5.4 miles south of Watford.
In 2012, a popular ranking by the Happy at Home Survey, Harrow was included among the gloomiest places to live. Ever since then, it has remained one of the most miserable places to live in England. Rather than improving, the town’s newspaper, The Harrow Times, recently listed it among the most depressing places to live in England. Another survey conducted among its residents places it on the bottom of the worst places to live. Similarly, the Office for National Statistics ranked it as the fourth of the most miserable places to live in the UK, considering how tough it is to survive in Harrow on an annual income of under £60,000.
9. Doncaster
The next one of the most miserable places to live in England is Doncaster, a large town in South Yorkshire. The minster town named after the River Don flowing through it is the principal settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster. The market town is also the second-largest in South Yorkshire.
People who live in Doncaster are the ones who voted it to the rank of top ten worst places to live in the UK for consecutive years. In a survey of the towns in South Yorkshire, Doncaster was ranked as the most dangerous. Among the 110 cities, towns, and villages in the area, Doncaster is among the top 20 most dangerous. In a recent year, it was voted as the overall second worst place in Britain. The overall crime rate in 2020 was 128 crimes per 1,000 people. It’s indeed one of the most depressing places to live in England and the UK.
8. Ipswich
Ipswich, a large port town and borough in Suffolk, is another one of the 10 most miserable places to live in England. Ipswich in East Anglia is a county town located 10 miles from the mouth of the River Orwell and the North Sea. It is also 67 miles away from London northeast, 45 miles southeast of Cambridge, 40 miles south of Norwich.
The crime rate in Ipswich is as bad as 100 crimes to 1000 people. Moving around the central parts of the town, where crime often occurs, you'd see that it is one of the most depressing places to live in England. Even though it has one of the fastest-growing economies in the UK thanks to the reinvention in its popular waterfront region and the introduction of the University of Suffolk, it remains relatively the most deprived area in Suffolk.
7. Burnley
Burnley, a town in Lancashire, 21 miles north of Manchester and 20 miles east of Preston, is another one of the most miserable places to live in England. The town at the confluence of the River Brun and River Calder is known for the manufacturing and aerospace industries. However, that hasn’t taken it out of the list of the most depressing towns in England.
As of 2019, over 8,829 children in Burnley were regarded as living in poverty, almost half within the town, after housing costs. Figures from Burnley are among the highest in the Northwest.

What are the most miserable towns in the United Kingdom? Many of the towns in the United Kingdom are not doing too badly in terms of basic amenities. The quality of life in those towns is higher even than in places recognized as cities in other countries. Still, it can’t be said that all those towns are having it equally. Assessing the standard of living and quality of life in the UK as a whole, we can describe certain towns in the United Kingdom as miserable. Granted, those towns are not inherently terrible. Yet, the situation there is not acceptable in the light of what we see in other villages, towns, and cities, in the UK. In this video, we shall be discussing the 10 most miserable towns in the UK.
10. Cumbernauld, Scotland
We will start our discussion with a town in Scotland. To give you a hint; this is the first of the three Scottish towns on this list of the 10 most miserable towns in the UK. We are talking about Cumbernauld, a large town in North Lanarkshire with an area of 8.3 square miles or 21.5 square kilometers. Under normal circumstances, it should be a city because of its city-like huge population of 51,000.
It has not shed that horrible description as “Scotland’s most dismal town.” Truly speaking, this town is lacking in anything of the good things you would find in Glasgow or Edinburgh. The center of Cumbernauld has been described as the “Kabul of the North.” This says it all. Whatever you know about Kabul has its miniature in this miserable town.
9. Grimsby, England
The first of the 5 cities in England on this list is Grimsby. Maybe we should stop calling it Great Grimsby. If it were great indeed, this port town and the North East Lincolnshire administrative center on the south bank of the Humber Estuary would have all amenities that would make it rank among the best. But the comments from its residents and one-time visitors indicated that life is miserable in this place that has been voted several times as one of the worst places to live in England.
Therefore, the town of around 100,000 residents is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. Its entire area of 88 square miles (or 230 square kilometers) has been ranked the 18th worst place to live a while ago.
8. Airdrie, Scotland
Back in Scotland; we are now examining Airdrie, a town in North Lanarkshire. It also is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. The town on a plateau with an elevation of 400 feet or 130 meters above sea level is about 12 miles (or 19 kilometers) east of Glasgow city center. During its industrial heyday in the 19th century, coal mining and cotton milling were the major industries, no one could then think of this former industrial town as miserable.
However, the exit of those industries has made life there miserable to extent of being branded the most dismal town in the UK. The PR manager for the town admits it deserves its grim reputation as the worst in Scotland. The town is boring and the buildings are ugly.

What are the crap towns in England? The name England evokes pride, and living in England on its own, in the UK for that matter, is something to be proud of. However, it is not all English towns that you can and should be proud of. Some places are considered ‘crap towns’ in England. Please note that this position doesn’t originate from us. It is from observation of those living in those towns in England and those who have visited. And those who are living in these towns agree that theirs are among the worst towns to live in England. Yet, we can’t find any ground to refute their position based on our private findings. In this video, you will see the towns that folks refer to as the 10 ‘crap towns’ in England.
10. Blackburn
We open this discussion in a large industrial town of Blackburn located in Lancashire. It’s north of the West Pennine Moors and on the southern edge of the Ribble Valley. Blackburn is just 8 miles east of Preston and also 20 miles northwest of Manchester. The mere consideration of its location alone could give some people an idea of the reason for its being labeled as one of the ‘crap towns’ in England.
Beyond that, however, pieces of ratings Blackburn is been given in this recent past are bad. Not long ago, the author of a popular report named it one of the most segregated towns in Britain. We dare add that the tough riot is one of the results of idleness, wants, and general dissatisfaction with life reflected in how people throng turn to street begging. You’ll see youngsters bunking off school and harassing passersby for money to be used in buying a cheeseburger.
9. Oldham
Not many people will expect this old town of Oldham which is also the administrative and authority center of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham to be described as a ‘crap town.’ But what does the reality on the ground portray about this large town in Greater Manchester? It shows that the town which is about 5 miles southeast of Rochdale and 6 miles northeast of Manchester is actually one of the worst towns to live in the UK. Don’t let us relate want we ourselves have found.
Some feel that the town lacks all culture and sophistication that can be emulated.
8. Castleford
“A trip to Castleford is a real eye-opener . . . and you need to keep your eyes open because if you dare to close them, they’d have your wallet faster than you could say” said a voter who voted Castleford one of the ‘crap town’ in the UK. Coming back home in England, a town with this recognition is certainly one of the crap towns in England. This town in the City of Wakefield within the county of West Yorkshire has always got bad reviews whenever it is to be discussed.
This low standard in this town may be due in part to its being a town of kith and kin. Sentimental attachments to relationships are likely to come in the way of standardization and adherence to the due process. This Wakefield’s largest town was also rued thus “you have to wonder whether the essence of chavdom stems from bad breeding, or in the case of Castleford, possible interbreeding.”
7. Blackpool
It might take a while before Blackpool get itself off a list like this. It is a consensus member in the rank of the ‘crap towns’ in the UK. We have also seen it mentioned in several lists of the worst towns to live in England and the UK. Blackpool is also on and off of lists of the most depressing towns to live in the UK. Why then is it still boasting of being the entertainment capital of the North it claims to be when a stratum of the society actually sees it as one of the most boring places to live in the UK?
A reviewer said of this town: “While in Blackpool all you smell is weed, McDonald's, KFC - you may think it's a jolly seaside resort with candy floss and donkeys but it's a scum-bucket for the transients who come here to draw benefits in a holiday resort instead of in an inner city.” Is that not what you would expect of a place described as a ‘crap town’ in England?

What are the most dangerous areas in England? In recent years, crime has been the single most potent threat to security in England as well as in other parts of the world. For that reason, you can’t afford to turn a deaf ear whenever the discussion is about crime-ridden areas. This video focuses on the recent crime situation in England. It is about the overall number of crimes and their rate in the policing areas of England. Thus, we present the 10 most dangerous Policing areas for crime in England. We modestly acknowledge the fact there can be contrary figures regarding the rate. Yet, we believe you and we can rely to a very large extent on figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). That is the basis of our ranking in this video.
10. Durham
The first policing area we shall be talking about is County Durham, simply referred to officially as Durham. Its county town is the city of Durham. It is a ceremonial county spawning from the historic County Palatine of Durham. It is also one of the 10 most dangerous counties in the UK. The most common crimes here are violence and sexual offenses. About 40 out of 1,000 residents experience either of these. The crime rate in Durban is 89.6 per 1,000 residents, according to the ONS while the police force says it is 88 per 1,000 residents.
9. Northumbria
Northumbria is the next policing areas on our list. The early medieval Anglo-Saxon kingdom which is in what is now Northern England derives its name from an Old English word meaning “the people or province north of the Humber.” This differentiates the area from the home of the people south of the Humber Estuary. As far as crime is concerned, Northumberland is currently among the most dangerous in the record of the ONS. The overall crime rate in Northumberland in the year leading to June 2021 was 89.7 crimes per 1,000 people. The commonest crimes in the area during the period were violence and sexual offenses. More than 31 out of 1,000 residents experienced either of these during this time.
8. Kent
Kent is in South East England where it borders Greater London to the northwest while sharing its western border with Surrey, the southwestern border with East Sussex, and the northern border across the estuary of the River Thames with Essex. Maidstone is the county town of this one of the 10 most dangerous areas for crime in England. The crime rate during the year ending June 2021 in Kent was 91.4 per 1,000 residents. Another source while naming Kent as one of the top 10 most dangerous counties puts the overall crime rate there in 2021 as 87 crimes per 1,000 people. Violence and sexual offenses which were the most common crimes there happened to roughly every 44 out of 1,000 residents then.
7. Humberside
Humberside does not escape our attention here. The former non-metropolitan and ceremonial county in Northern England was composed of lands from the Humber Estuary on either side as a county. A national crime police report for June 2022 reveals that the Humberside Police received reports that were 5.2 percent more than the previous years. In our main source in this video, Humberside had an overall crime rate of 95.2 per 1,000 residents that year. Note also, that the area was one of the most dangerous for knife crime in 2021 and the situation hasn’t changed as of the time of this production.
6. South Yorkshire
This ceremonial and metropolitan county is in the area known as Yorkshire and Humber Region. It is one of the places discussed in our video mentioned with a 2021 knife crime rate of 43 offenses per 100,000 residents. In this video about the crime rate within the year ending June 2021, this county recorded 96 crimes per 1,000 residents. Another source listing South Yorkshire among the 5 most dangerous counties in the UK says the overall crime rate in the county in 2021 was 94 crimes per 1,000 people adding that the most common crimes which were violence and sexual offenses happened to about 38 out of 1,000 residents.

We feel good beginning this listing in Scotland. The Scottish town of North Berwick is the first to be considered, albeit in the 12th position among the best small towns to live in Britain. It is a seaside town and former royal burgh in East Lothian. The town situated on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, about 32 kilometers east-northeast of Edinburgh, had been a fashionable holiday resort since the nineteenth century. Its great beaches and exotic coastal sceneries are reasons good enough to consider this town one of the best. This town which is just a 30-minute train journey from Edinburgh is home to a mix of shops, cafes and bars, world-renowned golf courses, and even the 5-star Scottish Seabird Center.
11. Frome, Somerset, England
The next to be considered on this list is Frome, a market town in the eastern part of Somerset County in South West England. This town, sitting on the eastern flanks of the Mendip Hills is some 20 kilometers south of the ancient town of Bath. This probably calls to mind the ancient Roman Spa town. The town with a lot of historic and architecturally fascinating buildings and an attractive town center with many independent shops on both sides has a lot of artists and craftspeople who consider it the best place for them in Britain. It is close to the M4 motorway. It has one of the oldest train stations still in service in Britain with direct services to London Waterloo, Bristol Temple Meads, and Exeter St David's. Its vibrant nightlife is quite attractive.

10. Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire
Henley-on-Thames also deserves to be mentioned here. Considering the riverside location this of town with its surrounding landscape of lush hills and green fields, The Times recently voted it one of the best places to live in England. This pretty riverside market town situated on one of the most stunning stretches of the River Thames lends itself to relaxation, long lunches, and shopping. This town which is home to a well-known detective has won RHS Britain in Bloom medals many times. Henley-on-Thames is not just a beautiful town, but a party town with an international reputation the greatest rowing regatta.

9. Bakewell, England
We next shift our attention to Bakewell, a small market town. This town in the Dales of the county of Derbyshire is some 21 kilometers southwest of Sheffield. Its location in the southeast corner of the Peak District National Park makes it viable for businesses that can be operated more comfortably from a small town. An example of this is the world-famous confection, the Bakewell Pudding. The town is well served by the motorway network, thanks to its location just north of the Midlands. Also, from London, it takes about 4 hours of a train journey to reach this village on a direct route covering about 216 kilometers.

What are the cheapest cities in England in which to live? To determine this, I've listed the top 10 in order of lowest average sold property prices within the last 12 months according to rightmove.co.uk, so bear in mind this information is time-sensitive (correct as of July 2023).

Scunthorpe Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in North Lincolnshire, around 13 miles southwest of the Humber Bridge, is the town of Scunthorpe.

It is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as 'Escumesthorpe', which is derived from Old Norse, meaning 'Skuma's village/hamlet' - Skuma presumably being the name of a Viking settler.

Scunthorpe was just a collection of five quiet villages up until 1860. It was around this time that vast iron ore deposits were discovered in the area, leading to the subsequent development of its steel industry. At first the iron ore was exported to iron producers in South Yorkshire. Later on, with the development of the Trent, Ancholme and Grimsby Railway, Scunthorpe was able to receive coal/coke from colliery towns such as Doncaster. With this, they were able to produce homegrown foundries for iron production.

During the Second World War Scunthorpe was subject to some air raid attacks from the German Luftwaffe, albeit not to the same degree as certain other towns and cities. Iron and steel manufacturing continued during these years in spite of the apparent risk. A monument dedicated to the steelworkers of the time is situated on the High Street (visible just before the 4-minute mark).

In 1967 three major steelworks companies in Scunthorpe (Appleby-Frodingham, Redbourn Iron Works and Normanby Works) merged under the umbrella of the newly-formed British Steel. Privatisation of British Steel occurred in 1988, and after a merger, became Corus, then Tata Steel Europe. British Steel Ltd bought back the company in 2016, though in 2019 entered insolvency.

What are the most boring towns in England? Do you have an idea of what it means to live in a boring place? Some people are actually living in boring cities or towns but are not conscious of what they’re missing due to their exposure. But if you want to appreciate what it means to live in a boring city or town in a developed country, consider these 10 most boring towns in England.
These are towns frequently found on the yearly data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on how happy people across Britain are. It was a compilation of the people’s responses to questions regarding their present and past happiness and satisfaction with life. Their comments are categorized to their priorities in life.

10. Cinderford
Let’s first look at Cinderford, a town and civil parish founded in the 19th century. The town on the eastern end of the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire is one of the most boring towns in England. The town’s origin as a coal mining center still reflects today be seen in the style, planning, and layout of the town as you could see long rows of identical terraced buildings.
Today, this historic market town that derived its name from the iron ore being mined and smelted there is the shadow of its economic past. With the decline of the coal and mining industry in the mid-20th century, most of the male population in Cinderford lost their job since they were employed in the industry. Today, the town still struggles to regulate its transportation and parking, education, and societal order.
9. Doncaster
Next is Doncaster, a large minster town in South Yorkshire. The town named after its River Don is also a market town. It has a large market center that has acquired that status from the Middle Ages. It is the main settlement of Doncaster Borough. Today, the town with its built-up area subdivision and the wider built-up area is one of the most boring towns in England.
The majority of the residents of this town aren’t happy about their town. Just like Cinderford, Doncaster is still struggling to shed the burden of the reputation it has earned from the 1960s mining community saga and failed investment.
8. Burnley
It’s now the turn of Burnley, a town in Lancashire. The town is 21 miles north of Manchester and 20 miles east of Preston. It’s at the confluence of the River Brun and River Calder not too far from the countryside to the east and south. To the west of this town is Padiham while Brierfield is to the north. It’s a thriving market town which is surrounded by breathtaking countryside. It used to be one of Lancashire’s most prominent mill towns.
What makes this place one of the most boring towns is the income disparity. According to the council, the variation in levels of income and wealth in Lancashire are very wide and not concentrated in specific areas. No wonder why it is among the most boring towns in the country.
7. Hartlepool
The large port town of Hartlepool in County Durham in North East is another boring town. This town is the largest and main settlement of the larger Borough of Hartlepool. Upon realizing that it is just 12 miles northeast of Stockton-on-Tees, you may wonder less about why it is one of the most depressing towns in the UK. Hartlepool is also located 32 miles southeast of Newcastle upon Tyne, 17 miles southeast of Durham, and 20 miles southeast of Sunderland.
One of the reasons why Hartlepool is so boring is the unregulated behavior of kids when they’re out with their parents. This creates a lot of embarrassment for any who wants to insist on observing decorum.

In this video, we’ve analyzed the situations in those places to show you the 10 most boring places to live in the UK. One thing stands out about these places; many of them are among the most boring towns in England, the most depressing places to live, either in England or in the UK, or the worst places to live or work in the UK. As we discuss these places, you need to show some appreciation for the ruggedness and tenacity of people in those places.
10. Cinderford, England
As usual, we want to open the log of the most boring places to live in the United Kingdom with a town and civil parish in England. Cinderford is historically a market town. As you meander through the town, your attention will be drawn to its origin as you see on both sides of its streets terraced houses that bring your mind back to the historical past in South Wales when those mining villages were prominent.
Cinderford has suffered a lot of economic backwardness because of the decline of the coal industry in the 1950s and 1960s. Since most of the breadwinners in this town were employed in the mining industry, the effect of the massive job loss is still being felt. For instance, no revenue is being generated through parking as it is free or almost free. The only secondary school is relatively small.
9. Cumbernauld, Scotland
Let’s step out of England to find the next of the 10 most boring places to live in the UK. We land in a large town in Scotland. The town is Cumbernauld, the tenth most populous locality in Scotland. It’s in the center of Scotland's Central Belt. Though it’s on the Scottish watershed situated between the Forth and the Clyde, it’s culturally far tilted towards Glasgow.
In 2001, some residents of the town described it as “the Kabul of the North.” The situation that fetched it that description persists till 2017 when the town that is geographically located between east and west became the only Scottish town on the list of the most dismal towns in the UK. A group of respected analysts in Scotland chastised local authorities in charge of the town for their negligence and incompetence.
8. Burnley, England
Back to England, we find Burnley, a town in Lancashire among the most boring places to live in the UK. The town, with a 2001 population estimate of 73,021, is 21 miles north of Manchester and 20 miles east of Preston, at the confluence of the River Calder and River Brun.
As you likely knew, the thriving market town formerly recognized as one of the most prominent mill towns is considered boring because of the wide gap between the haves and the have-nots. This is a town where affluence exists side by side with poverty and social exclusion. Consequently, over 8,829 children in Burnley were regarded as living in poverty as of 2019 while some children are wasting excess resources.
7. Hartlepool, England
The next city to be considered is Hartlepool, another town in England that is also a port town in County Durham in the northeast. Hartlepool which has since been a major seaport also has a long fishing heritage.
In this one of the most boring places to live in the United Kingdom, the crime rates, especially violent crime, arson, burglary, and drug are too high. The Hartlepudlians, the people living in Hartlepool aren’t happy that their town has been on many lists of the worst towns. Also, as the largest settlement and an administrative center, it’s surprisingly among the most miserable places to live in England. It’s also the second most dangerous major town in Durham. Given this circumstance, there’s no way Hartlepool can avoid being on the list of the most boring places to live in the UK.

12 Worst Towns in the UK – My Subscriber's List

When I released my video about the worst towns in the United Kingdom, I knew the reaction would naturally be great. That’s why I didn’t expend so much energy calling for your comments on that sizzling topic. What I didn’t know was how passionate your comments would be. I pretty soon realized how passionate some of my subscribers were about those towns, on the list. Some believed that I omitted some towns that were actually worse than the ones in my video. Others thought some of those towns aren’t as bad as portrayed. By popular demand, I’ve attempted to scrutinize the separate listings from my subscribers and I present the following as the commonest 12 worst towns in the UK.

12. Coalville, England
Almost all of my subscribers agree that Coalville, an industrial town in the district of North West Leicestershire, in the East Midlands of England, is one of the worst towns in the UK. Located on the A511 trunk road, it’s between Leicester and Burton-upon-Trent. It’s also close to junction 22 of the M1 motorway. That’s the point where the A511 meets the A50 when you’re between Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Leicester.
The town which was once a mining town hasn’t come out of its past even after all the pits have closed. The end of the coal business turns the Coal-village into a ghost town as shops are leaving the town as if it just came out of a depressive decade-long recession.

11. Strabane, Northern Ireland
Strabane in Northern Ireland also features on my subscribers’ list. The town on the east bank of the Foyle River which is roughly in the middle of Omagh, Derry, and Letterkenny, in Tyrone County, has held on to its infamous tag as one of the worst places to live in the UK. It recently came 8th worst place out of 434 local authority areas throughout the UK in popular research. Using the criteria such as home-buying, environment, crime, education, employment, and lifestyle, Strabane hasn’t come out of the extensive damage it suffered between the 1970s and the 1990s when it was one of the most bombed towns in Europe.

10. Scunthorpe, England
The next town featuring on my subscribers’ list is Scunthorpe, a large industrial town in North Lincolnshire in Lincolnshire, England. I was sure no one would disagree with the inclusion of Scunthorpe which is the UK’s largest steel processing center on this list. In a recent online vote, it was voted the 4th worst place to live in the UK. Many of my subscribers mentioned the horror of entering, visiting, or living in this third largest settlement in Lincolnshire. Some others were pissed off by the sites of litter on the street filled with the air polluted by the steelwork.

9. Blackpool, England
Blackpool was also sure to be on lists like this. I’ve not received any solid criticism for listing Blackpool as one of the worst towns in the UK. The large town and a seaside resort in Lancashire in England has every reason to be here. The employment situation in the town has remained bad since 2015 when only 65 percent of the people there were employed. This invariably lowers the gross income of the people. Meanwhile, house prices and the general cost of living aren't correspondingly low. Expectedly, life expectancy there is relatively low by the UK standard.
