Ilmenau is a town located in the district of Ilm-Kreis, Thuringia, Germany. Ilmenau is situated in the valley of the Ilm River, at an altitude of 431 metres (1,415 feet) above sea level, and is the biggest town in Ilm-Kreis district, with 6,200 students studying at the Technische Universität Ilmenau. The surrounding area is marked by the Thuringian Forest and its mountains. The highest mountain of Ilmenau is the Kickelhahn (German for rooster, which is also found in the coat of arms of Ilmenau), with a height of 861 metres. The highest mountains of the Thuringian forest are the Schneekopf (meaning snow-head) with a height of 978 metres and the Großer Beerberg (982.9 meters), a few kilometres to the south-west of Ilmenau. Goethe also enjoyed staying in Ilmenau, mostly on holiday.

A Walk Through Beautiful Coburg and Coburg's Fortress Castle, the Veste Coburg - Travel Germany
On this episode, we visit Coburg, Germany and walk down Spitalgasse to the beautiful Markplatz and then we take a look at the Veste Coburg. The town of Coburg is the one time capitol of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Erin and I really didn’t know what to expect when we visited Coburg and to make a long story short, we were blown away by this gem of a baroque city. Join us as we take a peek at Coburg.

Ilmenau is located approximately 33 km (21 miles) south of Erfurt and 135 km (84 miles) north of Nuremberg within the Ilm valley at the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest at an elevation of 500 metres (1,640 feet). Beautiful German Town - Ilmenau
Germany is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Depending on where you go, you might find Roman ruins, medieval villages, sparkling new cities, or Baroque city centers. It’s tough to know where to go first.
Ilmenau is situated in the northern part of the Thuringian forest, in an attractive scenery in the valley of the river Ilm, that lend its name for the town. There is not much known about the beginning of the settlement of Ilmenau. But it will have existed in worth mentioning size already in the 13th century. The location on a trading way, that led from Erfurt to Nuremberg, encouraged the development of Ilmenau. In the 14th century Ilmenau was mentioned several times, the town first time in 1341.
The earliest known masters over Ilmenau were the earls of Kaefernburg, who sold the town to the earls of Henneberg in 1343. Till the end of the 15th century the masters over Ilmenau changed several times by disposal and pawn. But in the end Ilmenau came back under the reign of the Hennebergs. After they died out Ilmenau came under the reign of the House of Saxon and was granted to the duchy of Sachsen-Weimar in 1660/61, where it remained until 1918.
In 1894 the Thuringian college of technology in Ilmenau was founded, a higher educational establishment for mechanical and electrical engineering. In 1926 renamed to engineer school of Ilmenau, it had a good reputation beyond the borders of Germany because of its solid and practice-oriented education. This was the decisive factor for the establishment of an technical college in 1953. The education in Ilmenau got its recognition in 1992 by the promotion to the Technical University of Ilmenau.
Today there live about 30.000 inhabitants in Ilmenau. Many tourists come to the town every year, which is because of its location a popular starting-point for walks and trips to the Rennsteig, and the cultural cities Erfurt and Weimar are within easy reach. The visitor of the town can follow the tracks of Goethe and enjoy the nature on the Goethewanderweg.
When you live in Ilmenau, you feel like you’re a part of a big family. Statistically speaking, one out of every four residents is a student, and many events and activities take place on campus. Ilmenau is one of the three most affordable cities in Germany for students, and if you love nature, you’ll find it right at your doorstep.
The Thuringian Forest offers a diverse array of opportunities for recreational activity. There are countless hiking trails around Ilmenau which highlight different themes. On the “Nature Trail”, you can learn about the distinctive geographical features of the Thuringian Forest, and if you take the trail “From Bach to Goethe”, you can enjoy breath-taking views of the landscape.
If you ever feel a desire for more variety and want to see something new, it’s only an hour away to Erfurt with public transportation.

Walking in COBURG / Germany ????????- 4K 60fps (UHD)
Coburg / Germany is a town in in the Upper Franconia region of Bavaria. it joined Bavaria by popular vote only in 1920. Coburg is located on the Itz river in the foothills of the Thuringian Forest also being long part of one of the Thuringian states of the Wettin line.
We start our tour of Coburg at the market square. This main square is ringed half-timbered buildings. The Town Hall stands out as well as a statue of Prince Albert. The statue was a gift to Coburg from Queen Victoria.
From the town square we visit the Morizkirche. This Protestant church is dedicated to Saint Maurice in Coburg and is the town's oldest church. dating back to the 14th century.
We get to the Ehrenburg Palace (Schloss Ehrenrburg) which served as the main Coburg residence for the ruling princes from the 1540s until 1918. We get on another round through the town center on this sunny day. Soon we return to the upper Hofgarten for a view of the Ehrenburg Palace and Landestheater Coburg to end this Coburg walking tour.

Eine wichtige Veranstaltung ist das jährliche Bachfestival.

10. Hallenburgfest
Großer Festumzug nach 5 Jahren Pause: Es ist immer wieder erstaunlich, wie die kleinen Kommunen große festliche Umzüge aus dem Boden stampfen, die nicht nur die Einheimischen, sondern auch Fremde begeistern können.
Das scheint an der ungewöhnlichen Vielschichtigkeit des gesellschaftlichen Lebens dort zu liegen, wo Kultur und Gemeinwesen meist nur ehrenamtlich funktionieren. Mit mehr als 800 Teilnehmern und verschiedenen Kapellen war der Festumzug der Höhepunkt des am Sonntag zu Ende gegangenen Burgfests. Tausende Bürger und Gäste säumten die Straße. Neben den Steinbach-Hallenberger Vereinen waren viele Gastvereine aus den umliegenden Gemeinden gekommen, die alle ein spezielles Umzugs-Thema gestalteten.

Wir fahren zum Wohnmobilstellplatz Thermenaue, welcher in der Kleinstadt Bad Rodach zu finden ist.
Die Stadt liegt im Norden Bayerns im Landkreis Coburg, unweit der Grenze zu Thüringen. Sie befindet sich rund 18 Kilometer nordwestlich von Coburg zwischen den Langen Bergen im Osten und den Gleichbergen im Westen.
Während wir über Nebenstraßen durch den nördlichen Coburger Landkreis nach Bad Rodach fahren, erzählen wir euch ein wenig über die nette Kleinstadt ...
