The Canary Islands are located off the west coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean and Santa Cruz de Tenerife is it's joint capital! The city is the center of maritime industry and tourism and with sub tropical temperatures round the year, its easy to fall in love with this place.
Besides opting for one of the several low-cost airlines which serve the islands, you can also cruise your way here by taking a ferry from mainland Europe. Once arrived at the docks, it's a quick 5 minute walk to the center, which is also known as Plaza de Espana!
The plaza's location on the seafront makes it a good meeting place and a great starting point when exploring the city. The Plaza de Espana is a mega photo point for all the visiting tourists. There are several monuments here with the most distinctive being the memorial dedicated to the 39 residents of the island who fought and died on Franco's side in the Civil War in the 1930s.
As you can see, the center is so close to the marina and the ferry port that you can actually see the ships from here! Another nice thing about the city is that it's very WiFi friendly! In fact, the center is actually a free wifi zone set up by the town hall and I was told that on hot days, you'd often see locals and tourists alike sitting at a square with their feet dipped in water and tapping away on their smartphone screen for hours!
I really liked this location! It was also very close to the main shopping streets with several cafes and restaurants alongside.
The Market of Nuestra Señora de Africa - best place to buy the most fresh produce from this island for example bananas, tomatoes, papayas, cheese and so on. We'll go after exploring the walking street!
About the walking street, speaking to some locals I found out that this street has some really high end expensive shops and they're mostly aiming at the tourists i.e. the locals mostly come here for window shopping or for a casual stroll but not really for actual shopping. I think this is the same for most of the walking streets world wide! The locals are smart and they know better!
Anyway, did you know that Tenerife is home to more than one million people? Yeah, that's right. In fact, nearly half of the residents of Tenerife live in this city. For me this was hard to imagine because I hardly saw any people when traveling around the island away from the center!
It's a small island, travel time is less and there are excellent bus services to other parts of the island! So I think a lot can be done within a short time period! Also, I think 1 day is more than enough to explore Santa Cruz, what do you say?

Tenerife Ep 06 Santa Ursula
A day where we scheduled to go to La Laguna, La Orotava and Los Gigantes which ended up instead, a trip off the beaten track. We were stuck in traffic, then the freeway was closed off so we had to ditch various items off the itinerary and add on other things like Santa Ursula :)

Die Rivalität, die zwischen beiden entsteht, ist ein besonderer Anreiz bei dieser Opfergabe, sie liefern sich dann ein großes Spektakel am Nachthimmel und wetteifern, wer das schönere Feuerwerk hat. Es zählt auch zu den längsten Feuerwerken Europas... Es ist ein Spektakel, das jeder Urlauber miterleben sollte.

For our Tenerife Travel Blog we set out to hunt down abandoned places on the island, so when we drove through Santa Ursula on our way to do some URBEX - ing at the bunker in town - when we spotted this big cement statue of a woman, with growing moss and succulents all over ... our jaw dropped.
This statue is part of the La Quinta Garden - a neat little green spot in this rather new housing development, just south of the main town. A great art piece combining the vision of the sculpture while integrating living things ... NATURE!

Santa Úrsula is a town and a municipality on the north coast of Tenerife. It is located 6 km east of Puerto de la Cruz and 24 km west of the island's capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The population is 14,545 (2013 ) and the area is 22.59 km . The elevation is 290 m. The TF-5 motorway passes through the municipality.
La Quinta is a residential neighborhood in the north of Santa Ursula, made up of villas and a beautiful view of the sea, from which you can see Puerto de la Cruz in the distance, to the west.

En épocas prehispánicas fue el lugar de residencia del Mencey Taoro prueba de ello ha sido el hallazgo de numerosos restos arqueológicos de carácter aborigen en acantilados y barrancos.
