10 Things to do in Granada, Spain Travel Guide Video Transcript:

Wrapping up our travels in Spain, our last city to visit was Granada. Set in Andalusia at the foot of the snow capped Sierra Nevada, this is a place where Moorish influence is palpable. From hilltop fortresses to Moroccan markets, and tranquil gardens to quaint teahouses, in this travel guide we’re going to show you some of the things you can do in Granada:

This Cathedral was as grand as you’d expect. The stark white interiors were a bit of a contrast to the ornate churches we had seen in other cities, but that just made your eyes travel towards a glowing, golden altar.

The Moroccan souk turned out to be one of our favourite spots in the city. The street was packed with tiny shops standing shoulder to shoulder, all filled with leather handbags, glass lamps, wool slippers, colourful scarves and pashminas and souvenirs.

We continued our way up the hill into Albayzín. This is one of the oldest centres of Muslim culture in Granada. The neighbourhood is a maze of narrow cobbled streets, white-houses with tiled roofs, and small courtyards sprinkled in between.

We made time to stop at one of the teterías, or teahouses. This was the perfect place to rest on a cold winter day and enjoy some afternoon treats.

You can find numerous Moroccan restaurants in this part of the city for food. One place we ate at on more than once occasion was Al-Faguara. They offered set menus for lunch featuring hummus, falafel, couscous, tajine, and of course, lots of baklava.

Let’s take a moment to talk about Granada’s main tourist attraction: the Alhambra!

The Alhambra is a massive complex of palaces, gardens and fortresses that once formed the citadel of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, which was the last Muslim dynasty to rule along the Iberian Peninsula from the years 1230 to 1492.

This is the one attraction you can’t miss when you visit Granada, and you’ll want to book your tickets well in advance as they can sell out during high season.

We spent half a day touring the grounds during which time we visited the Nasrid Palaces, the Palace of Charles the Fifth, the Alcazaba, and the Generalife.

We decided to find a cafe where we could indulge in a delicious Spanish breakfast.

Another spot we explored in Granada is Carrerra del Darro, a small lane that runs along the Darro River at the base of the Alhambra. This street is lined with arched-stone bridges and historic buildings.

We’ll leave you with a few scenes of Granada at night and one last glimpse of the Alhambra lit up against the evening sky.

We hope you enjoyed this video and that you got ideas of things do in Granada on your own visit.

This is part of our Travel in Spain video series showcasing Spanish food, Spanish culture and Spanish cuisine.

The Cathedral of Granada is dedicated to Santa María de la Encarnación. Unlike most cathedrals in Spain, construction was not begun until the sixteenth century in 1518 in the centre of the old Muslim Medina, after acquisition of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada from its Muslim rulers in 1492.

The Mirador de San Nicolás is perhaps the most famous viewpoint in Granada. Since ex-US president Bill Clinton visited in 1997 and said it has the most beautiful sunset in the world, the Mirador de San Nicolás has become a must-see for tourists.

La Aldea de San Nicolás, Gran Canaria (4K)

La Aldea de San Nicolás Is a municipality in Western Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain. It has a beautiful stretch of coastline, especially in Los Caserones, which is where i filmed much of this video. Right next to Playa De La Aldea, is Charco De La Aldea, a lagoon with long standing local traditions.

Chinese New Year In Binondo 2024 | Lakad Manila walking tour

Binondo is the oldest Chinatown in the world.
Join me as we walk and celebrate with our Chinoy kababayans.

Chinese New Year is a festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. Marking the end of winter and the beginning of the spring season, observances traditionally take place from Chinese New Year's Eve, the evening preceding the first day of the year, to the Lantern Festival, held on the 15th day of the year. The first day of Chinese New Year begins on the new moon that appears between 21 January and 20 February.

Binondo (Chinese: 岷倫洛; pinyin: Mínlúnluò; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Bîn-lûn-lo̍h) is a district in Manila and is referred to as the city's Chinatown.[2] Its influence extends beyond to the places of Quiapo, Santa Cruz, San Nicolas and Tondo. It is the oldest Chinatown in the world, established in 1594[3][4][5][6] by the Spaniards as a settlement near Intramuros but across the Pasig River for Catholic Chinese; it was positioned so that the colonial administration could keep a close eye on their migrant subjects.[7] It was already a hub of Chinese commerce even before the Spanish colonial period. Binondo is the center of commerce and trade of Manila, where all types of business run by Filipino-Chinese thrive.

Places to see in ( Bilbao - Spain ) Iglesia de San Nicolas

Places to see in ( Bilbao - Spain ) Iglesia de San Nicolas

The church of San Nicolás located in the city of Bilbao ( Vizcaya , País Vasco , Spain ) is a Catholic church of baroque style inaugurated in 1756 and projected by the architect Azpeitiarra Ignacio Ibero . It is located in the Casco Viejo of the town, specifically in the square of San Nicolás and its facade faces the theater Arriaga .

Initially it was a hermitage that presided over the neighborhood of fishermen who had outside the town of Bilbao. That is why it is dedicated to St. Nicholas of Bari. The church was founded in 1490, but floods left it completely in ruins and had to be torn down. The current church was built in 1756 and also had peculiar events: it had to close during the war of independence, in 1816 lightning struck and in the Carlist wars was a military warehouse. For all this was not open to worship in the following periods of years 1808-1814, 1835-1841 and 1873-1879.

It is a baroque style church with a Greek cross in a square and covered by a dome . The dead angles that remain in the corners are the chapels and the sacristy. The dome that covers the temple has the shape of an octagonal prism, although it is hidden by the steeple located in the middle of the main façade. The façade consists of the main entrance and two towers on each side.

The main chapel and the four exedras are occupied by spectacular Baroque - Rococo altarpieces . The Bilbao regiment commissioned the work of Juan Pascual de Mena , the sculptor of the court, in Madrid in 1754. In order to carry out the work, both the sculptor and the artist who would take care of the polychromy of the 17 figures, José López Perella, are temporarily installed in the villa. The traces were made in collaboration with Diego Martínez de Arce and the construction of furniture and pulpits in natural walnut in Juan de Aguirre and Juan de Iturburu.

( Bilbao - Spain ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Bilbao . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Bilbao - Spain

Places to see in ( Valencia - Spain ) Iglesia de San Nicolas de Bari y San Pedro Martir

Places to see in ( Valencia - Spain ) Iglesia de San Nicolas de Bari y San Pedro Martir

San Nicolás de Bari and San Pedro Mártir is a Gothic style, Roman Catholic parish church located in Valencia. The Iglesia de San Nicolas de Bari y San Pedro Martir was founded in the 13th century, with a layout that includes a single-nave with six chapels between the buttresses and polygonal apse. The church was refurbished in Gothic in the 15th century, and includes a rose window alluding to a miracle of Saint Nicholas. There is an outdoor Chapel closed with a gate which is called the fossar, because there was before the parish cemetery. The other gate, which overlooks the square of San Nicolás, however, is a neo-gothic 19th-century recreation.

The interior of the Iglesia de San Nicolas de Bari y San Pedro Martir was completed between 1690-1693, and was decorated by Juan Pérez Castiel in baroque fashion. It has frescoes, depicting the lives of San Nicola and Peter of Verona, along with virtues and allegories, designed by Antonio Palomino and completed by Dionis Vidal. The chapel altarpieces include works by Juan de Juanes, Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina, Jerónimo Jacinto de Espinosa, and José Vergara Gimeno.

In the Church of San Nicolás, of which Pope Callixtus III was rector before becoming Pope, in the door that overlooks to the square of San Nicolás, he is remembered with a plaque regarding the prediction of Saint Vincent Ferrer that Alfonso de Borja would become Pope and then would canonize him.

Parroquia de San Nicolás - Tours in Valencia

Let me take you with me on my visit to the beautiful Parroquia de San Nicolás Valencia, just re opened after restoration. The capilla sixtina valenciana is a real pleasure for the eyes. Not mentioned in a city guides yet, but do really make a visit when you are in Valencia. It is free of charge at the moment.

The frescoes in the Church of San Nicolas de Valencia recovered its splendour after three years of restoration. A project coordinated the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), in collaboration with the parish itself and the funding Hortensia Herrero Foundation.

They have restored 1,904 square meters of painted surface,
800 square meters of the Sistine Chapel
Alongside the paintings in the nave also they have been restored chapels, facades and windows.

Till June you can visit the exhibition Restoration St. Nicholas', a graphical display that shows the evolution of the work done in this intervention.

The restoration includes the frescoes of the nave, designed by Antonio Palomino and realised between 1694 and 1701 by his disciple Dionís Vidal. In total, some 1,800 square meters of painted surface divided into arches, lunettes, pilasters, vaulted atrium and having all sorts of problems: baggy, loss of cohesion, missing, and repainting. The work was done with the advice of the director of the last restoration that took place in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, Gianluigi Colalucci.

The architectural and pictorial-ornamental intervention carried out the last three years in the central church of St. Nicholas was the most important to date at international level by both the magnitude of the work as the techniques used.

ABOUT US
At age 50 we left our jobs, sold most of our belongings, and decided to follow our dream of international travel for seven to nine months a year. Our goal is not to visit the most countries or see the most sites in a short amount of time, but to spend several months in each county that we visit, becoming immersed in the local area. When not traveling internationally, we hope to spend time visiting various beaches, cities, and national parks across the United States. We will show not only where we are going and what we are doing, but also provide practical advice on how to travel and explore on a reasonable budget in a relaxed and leisurely manner. Follow along as we figure out how to navigate our early retirement and semi-nomadic life
