Charco la Iglesia | San Germán | Puerto Rico | GoPro Max 360
Charco la Iglesia, like Charco el Pilón, which is a little further down, is an incredibly magical place. Depending on where you come from, getting there by car can be challenging since driving from the metro area takes 2 hours. The road gets steeper and narrower the closer you get to where you need to park.
The first part of the path on foot is for off-road cars and the second is a fairly well kept path, although it crosses the river several times, and if you don't look closely, you can get lost momentarily. Despite all that, I would easily say it's worth it just to see those crystal clear waters! Watch the video to see this magical place!

TOP 5 SAFE BEACHES IN PUERTO RICO:
Puerto Rico, the island of enchantment, is a travel destination that truly has it all: pristine beaches for swimming, reefs for snorkeling, entertainment for family members of every age, mouthwatering cuisine, a fascinating culture, and every kind of adventure you could imagine.
The beaches of Guanica in the south of Puerto rico feature magnificent stands of mangrove trees. The winding shapes of the mangrove roots and plentiful wildlife make these beaches extra fun to visit.
Not only are the island’s beaches spectacular to admire, the majority of them are also safe for swimming and have clean, warm water all year long. Many of these beaches are also full of vibrant marine life and provide ample opportunities for snorkeling and diving. Playa Puerto Nuevo and Crashboat are great places to enjoy marine wildlife.
Cabo Rojo has dramatic coastal landscapes that can rival the famous cliffs of Ireland and Dover.
Visit Puerto Rico’s sister islands of Culebra and Vieques for the brightest turquoise blue waters you’ll ever see.
Puerto Rico’s natural charms aren’t just limited to the coastline. Go further inland to experience majestic mountain views and lush rainforests, like the Toro Negro forest.
Lechon, the most famous Puerto Rican food, is a whole roast pig. Puerto Ricans especially cherish the cuerito, the extra crunchy pork skin that is like bacon but a thousand times better.
One of the best places to get traditional Puerto rican food is Guavate, also known as the pork highway. You can also find traditional side dishes like sweet potato guineitos and yuca.
Along the highways, you can find amazing restaurants like Mami que hay pa comer, which makes gigantic pasteles, a typical Puerto rican dish specially popular during Christmas season.
For an elevated yet affordable Puerto Rican dining experience, visit To Share in Condado. This is my personal favorite restaurant in Puerto Rico, and the food and cocktails never disappoint. They even have vegan options.
Hijole is a great option for Mexican or Criollo food, and it’s our favorite spot for brunch and frozen margaritas.
For a juicy hamburger, check out el Hamburger in Puerta de tierra which has been popular with locals for more than 50 years.
If you’re craving Japanese food, we highly recommend Nihon Ippudo in Guaynabo. They make amazing sushi and the crunchiest orange chicken you’ll ever eat.

Adventure Hike to Charco El Pilon in San German, Puerto Rico
We had tried to find the waterfall Charco El Pilon in San German, Puerto Rico once before but failed (see the link below), so we tried again and this time we found it! It was a beautiful hike through dense jungle forest where we had to cross the river a number of times, crawl over and under fallen trees. When we first began we even explored an abandoned and destroyed house on the corner. We saw some cool plants including wild pineapples and huge mahogany trees. When we finally arrived it began to rain, but it wasn't too heavy so we spent some time there before deciding whether or not we would attempt the much more difficult upper waterfall of Charco La Iglesia!
First attempt at finding Charco El Pilon we found an unknown waterfall!
Discovering New Amazing Places In Puerto Rico: Downtown San German & Abandoned Facility in Cabo Rojo
Another weekend in Puerto Rico and this time we decided to explore 2 places from 2 different cities - Downtown San German and an abandoned Youth Juvenile Center in Cabo Rojo! One is dreamy and another eerie. Feel free to use this video as a 2022 travel guide whether you're just visiting Puerto Rico or if you live here.

These places are definitely doable in one day. Downtown San German has all the dreamy and educational places and museums you can see. It has the Church of Porta Coeli, amazing museums, and old Spanish structures.
In another town not too far from it is Cabo Rojo where we discovered this abandoned center which is inside a bike park! It is also known as Antigua Cárcel Juvenil de Cabo Rojo.
Sorry for the Stranger Things theme, we're just big fans of the show and the place in Cabo Rojo makes us feel like we we're in the upside down! hahahahah.

Estos lugares son definitivamente factibles en un día. El centro de San Germán tiene todos los lugares y museos de ensueño y educativos que puedas ver. Tiene la Iglesia de Porta Coeli, museos increíbles y antiguas estructuras españolas.
En otro pueblo no muy lejos está Cabo Rojo donde descubrimos este centro abandonado que está dentro de un bike park! También es conocida como Antigua Cárcel Juvenil de Cabo Rojo.
Perdón por el tema de Stranger Things, solo somos grandes fanáticos del programa y el lugar en Cabo Rojo nos hace sentir como si estuviéramos al revés. jajajajaja

Finding an Unknown Waterfall! Charco La Cabra, San German Puerto Rico- Monte del Estado Reserve
We were on our way to a different waterfall in San German when the road became too sketchy and treacherous to continue. So we decided to explore some of the area on foot when we serendipitously found a waterfall! Later we learned that this waterfall is called Charco La Cabra or Goat's Pond. It was very easy to find and right off the roadway deep in the jungle near the Forest Reserve of Monte del Estado. We explored other areas of the river and enjoyed a nice swim in the beautiful waters. We want to go back and explore more areas of Rio Guama and find the other saltos, charcos and waterfalls!
