My friend Marco and me went down to Durban to explore the things to do in Durban and some more sights in Kwazulu-Natal. As usual I tried to mix sightseeing in South Africa with some cool activities, such as the big rush, a multi day trek in the Drakensberg mountains or a Segway tour in Durban.
For doing all this we rented a car and drive through the region for about 10 days with activities booked a few weeks ahead.

Our visit to Saldanha was a short, yet fantastic journey. The drive from Vredenburg was quick, and our fascination with harbours was well rewarded. The sight of the bustling dry dock and the enormity of the Sea Harvest processing facility left us in awe. Lunch at Charlie's Fish and Chip shop was a delight, savouring delicious fish-and-chips and fish cakes. Our next stop, the Ore Terminal, was off-limits, but witnessing the trains transporting the ore from Sishen to the harbour was an amazing experience, despite the red dust that covered the entire area. South Africa's Most Unique Restaurant / 10 course meal at Die Strandloper, Langebaan.
Exploring South Africa really has us shocked with what our home country has to offer. It's weird to think how we always want to travel to explore other countries before we explore our own.
Die Strandloper in Langebaan South Africa (West coast of south africa) is one of the most unique food experiences we have ever had. Offering a 10 course meal is something out of this world and we were wondering how could we ever finish a 10 course meal!
Die Strandloper means 'beach walker'. The reason for this name is when the British sailors sailed to southern Africa and stopped on the beaches, they would meet 'Die Strandloper' who is the translator between the Khoi-San people of Africa and the British.
This restaurant has no roof and barely any kitchen. You sit on a beach, with fires all around you, cooking all sorts of amazing dishes. This is a food experience that we will never forget.
One food that we were particularly curious about, was dessert? What would they be serving as a dessert on a beach?

Hello everyone, today on SA Today, we look at the Olivia Marie fishing vessel docked in the Saldanha Bay harbour. We take a walk around to show you the damage to the South African (SA)-flagged Olivia Marie, measuring 105 feet in length, that caught fire while operating south of Cape Point on April 14th, 2023. The Olivia Marie suffered severe damage in the fire, and its future remains uncertain.

Saldanha Bay Harbour on the west coast of Cape Town
Saldanha Bay harbour, a natural harbour, was very quite on the day I went there and the sea breeze was awesome. The harbour has a fish canning factory and there a few boats moored alongside the jetty, some in need of some repairs and one that has sunk some time ago! The Saldanha Bay yacht club is just across the way as you'll see in the video.
Ep. 20 - Maran Future entering the mouth of Saldanha Bay
Hello everyone, today on SA Today on 7 June 2023, we overlook the Maran Future entering the mouth of Saldanha Bay. The Maran Future is a massive Capesize bulk carrier used to transport heavy cargoes such as iron ore and coal. It is owned by Maran Tankers, a Greek shipping company. The vessel has an incredible carrying capacity of 179,318 deadweight tons, enabling it to transport huge cargo. It is powered by an 18,000 horsepower diesel engine and can reach a top speed of 14.5 knots. The ship is manned by a crew of 22 individuals. Unfortunately, the Maran Future has been in two accidents since it was built, including a collision with another vessel in the South China Sea in 2017 and a grounding incident off the coast of Australia in 2018. Despite these incidents, the ship and its cargo emerged unscathed.
