Today we will take you on a tour of Mardan, a city in Pakistan. This city has been of special importance even in ancient times. There are traces of 1800 BC in this area which are enough to highlight its historical significance. Mardan Province of Pakistan Mardan is a fast growing city located in the Peshawar Valley. It has a total area of 632 square kilometers and is located at an altitude of 120 feet above sea level. Mardan is a lush area located on the banks of the river Kalpani. The reason for the fame of this city is Pir Mardan Shah.
According to the data published in 2021, the total population of Mardan is three hundred and eighty eight thousand four hundred and sixteen population. One hundred and fourteen people live here. Fifteen hundred people per square kilometer. The history of Mardan city is connected with the Kandahar civilization. Alexander chose this route to reach the Indus Valley. And before that his grandfather Chandra Gupta Moriah also ruled here. In 1505 also Babar had placed this area under his rule.
Because this area was part of Kabul and Kabul was ruled by Babar. In 1837, Maharaja Ranjit Singh snatched this area from Mughals and made it part of Sikh Empire. Antiquities have been found which are about 30,000 years old. A handwritten letter has also been found here. Nearby are the remains of an ancient Buddhist monastery which has the honor of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the richest district and is also known as the land of hospitality. The city is located at a distance of 60 km from Peshawar.
Where the inhabitants belong to the Yousafzai tribe ethnically. , Tanoli Awan and Gujar tribes are notable Mardan was given the status of a district in 1937 and a division in 1988 before it became Pakistan. The most spoken languages in Mardan district are Pashto, Punjabi, Seraiki and Urdu. Mardan is also the capital of Risalpur in the south, Charsadda in the west, Yahseen and Takht Bahi in the east and Katlang in the north. The largest religion of Mardan is Islam.
Apart from Muslims, the district is also inhabited by Christians and Hindus. There was no public or private sector university in Mardan till 2009. The first public sector university, Abdul Wali Khan University was established in 2009 and the University of Engineering and Technology in 2017. The institution was established in the city under the name of Bacha Khan Medical College which was built in 2010. Mardan is a hot climate area with an average temperature of 33 Celsius in summer and here Mardan is the center of rapid industrial development. The city is home to textile and edible oil mills as well as South Asia's largest sugar mill district.
The government-funded sports complex, built in 2006, has facilities for playing games such as cricket, football, field hockey, swimming and basketball. From Mardan District Mardan Medical Complex provides all modern medical facilities. Mardan is famous all over Pakistan for its sugarcane and tobacco crop. The marble from the mountains is famous all over the world for its charm.

Uri is a town and a tehsil in the Baramulla district, in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.Uri is located on the left bank of the Jhelum River, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) east of the Line of Control with Pakistan.
Uri is located at the entrance to the Kashmir Valley from the west, lying on the Jhelum Valley Road.Prior to the partition of Kashmir, the road linked Uri to Rawalpindi and Srinagar. Another important road linked Uri to Poonch via the Haji Pir pass.
Uri is at a distance of 76 mi (122 km) from Srinagar, 42 mi (68 km) from Muzaffarabad and 49 mi (79 km) from Poonch.
Hari Singh Nalwa (r. 1820–1823), the Sikh commander-administrator of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, built the fort of Uri.
Following the First Anglo-Sikh War (1845–1846) and the Treaty of Amritsar (1846), Raja Gulab Singh was proclaimed the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, acquiring all the lands between the Ravi River and the Indus.51–52 Uri became a tehsil in the Muzaffarabad district of the Kashmir province.
On 22 October 1947, the tribal invasion led to the fall of Muzaffarabad and Uri to the Pashtun tribes from Pakistan. The raiders then halted at Baramulla.Following the accession of the Maharaja to India on 26 October, India air lifted troops to the Kashmir Valley, who retook Baramulla and Uri by mid-November.The Indian government attached utmost importance to the defence of Uri.Muzaffarabad, on the other hand, came under Pakistani control and became the capital of Azad Kashmir. The tehsil of Uri was subsequently merged into the Baramulla district. @MZRKashmir

Proud Gardener, Myself visited Mardan Katlang to attend friend's marriage. About Mardan: Mardan is a city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province KPK, Pakistan. Located in the Valley of Peshawar, it is the second-largest city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is a fast-growing city that experienced a population boom in latter half of the twentieth century.
Ancient history of Mardan city:
It is a part of the Peshawar valley the whole area was once part of the ancient kingdom of Gandhara, the remains of which are scattered throughout the district Mardan. The armies of Alexander the Great reached the Indus Valley by two separate routes, one through Khyber Pass & other led by Alexander himself through Kunar, Bajaur, Swat, & Buner in 326 BCE. After Alexander's death, valley came under rule of Chandragupta, who ruled the valley from 297 to 321 BCE. During the reign of the Buddhist emperor Ashoka (the grandson of Chandragupta) Buddhism became the religion of the Peshawar Valley.
Arrival of Afghans in Mardan & Peshawar valley:
By the 11th century, Afghans had appeared in valley of Peshawar. At that time Peshawar valley was under control of the rulers at Lahore. The pukhtuns joined the Gakkhars who held the country between the Indus & the Jhelum rivers & compelled Lahore rulers to cede to them the hill country west of Indus & south of Kabul River.
Mardan in Ghaznavid Era:
In 10th century area and Mardan came under the control of Sultan Sabuktigin who defeated Raja Jaipal, Hindu ruler of Lahore. In the 12th century Ghaurid empire of the Turkic origin overthrew the Ghaznavis & the era of Ghaznavis came to an end.
Mardan in Mughal Era:
In 1505 the Mughal emperor Babar invaded area through Khyber Pass. Baber swiftly captured the area of Mardan including other areas. The people of Swat in those days were of mix origins. On one side of the river lived Pashtuns along with Gujjar, Syriake people of whom many were Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims.
Mardan in British Era:
Ranjit Singh conquered Attock 1814 and Peshawar city in 1822. He left Hari Singh Nalwa in command and withdrew himself to Lahore. Peshawar city, Nowshera and Hazara were under Sikh rule for a while. Hazara was set free by Tanooli clan from Sikhs but fell to Britain in 1838. Peshawar city also fell to Pashtuns in 1834 [Nowla died in Jamrud battle] but soon British took it in 1837. British then went after Sikhs and Sikhs were defeated by British in Second Sikh War.

Foods of Mardan / Street food of Mardan city:
The most common diet of the people is bread which is mainly made of wheat flour but maize bread is also eaten. Generally the foods are spicy. People of area are fond of meat, especially various forms of beef cooked in shape of chapli kebab, Takht Bai Chapli Kabab, seekh kebab & tikkas, lobia chaat, sweet potatoes chat, badayoon k perry, badayun k pairy, Badauni Pairay or simply called mardan k perry etc. Mostly black tea with milk is taken as hot drink but Qahwa (green tea)is also popular and is liked by most of the people. Sugarcane & oranges are a local famous fruit which is grown in Rustam valley in Palay, Palo Dheray, Baroch and Malandray villages. Oranges are transported to various parts of the country. A new access road to these villages is being constructed via Rustam through Kaludheri Srakabroona Baringan Malandry to Buner District.
