Thai Street Food Michelin Star - GIANT CRAB OMELET at Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ) in Bangkok, Thailand!

►SUBSCRIBE for 2 new videos per week:
►T-shirts available now:

Congratulations to Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ) who recently was awarded a Michelin Star!

Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ) is no doubt one of the most legendary Thai street food restaurants in Bangkok - some people are loyal fans, others say that it’s overpriced. It’s a Thai restaurants in Bangkok that I had been wanting to eat at for a long time, but never got around to it - partly because it is so expensive. So finally one day for lunch, Ying and I drove over to central Bangkok to try Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ) for the first time.

But really quickly, about the name....

In Thai, Jay (เจ๊) means a Chinese Aunty and Fai (ไฝ) means a mole, yes a mole. What I can tell you first about the restaurant is that the owner is absolutely awesome. She wears ski goggles and a snow cap while she’s cooking, and she cooks over huge fire charcoal, fanning the flame as she expertly cooks. She’s also quite a character, and she loves to chat - so while I was filming she shared all about herself, and how her method of cooking her legendary Thai crab omelet ensures that it doesn’t soak up very much oil. It’s indeed the most amazing omelet you might ever see in your life.

Crab omelet (ไข่เจียวปู) - You can either order the 800 THB or the 1000 THB crab omelet, I went with the 1000 THB. It’s huge, but only uses 2 eggs, but it’s packed with shell less crab nuggets. The omelet is cooked burrito style, and it’s massive. It’s a must order when you eat at Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ).

Drunken noodles (เส้นใหญ่ผัดขี้เมาทะเล) - Her version of Thai drunken noodles (pad kee mao sen ya) is the dish I would come back for over and over again. Again, it’s not cheap, but the quality of seafood and the seasoning that she uses is superb. The balance of flavor will blow your mind - it’s really the best plate of Thai drunken noodles I’ve had in Bangkok.

Tom yum goong (ต้มยำกุ้ง) - For our final dish we tried Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ) tom yum goong. Again, massive prawns and seafood were used, and she cooked it over charcoal. It was awesomely delicious, sour, and flavorful.

Conclusion:
Eating at Thai street food restaurants like this can be all about expectations. You have to go in knowing the prices are very high and you’re going to spend way more money than going to any other corner Thai street food restaurant. That being said, it’s a one-of-a-kind historical culinary legend of a restaurant in Bangkok. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience eat at Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ), and it was an honor to stand there and talk with Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ), and then eat her cooking.

Total price - 2,370 THB ($72.32)

⚡️ Looking for a complete itinerary for backpacking Germany?

⚡️ For all travel guides about Germany -

Here's a little blast from the past. In 2015, I went on a 3 months backpacking trip to Europe. I started out my journey alone, drank alone, explored the beautiful German cities alone, then along the way, I met people, made new friends, rekindled old ones, and by the time I left Germany, I was no longer alone.

Thanks to all the friends I met along the way, some travelers some locals, I had the opportunity visit a ton of places around Germany I would never thought of visiting. I spent most of my time with them, and got to see first hand what it is like to live in Germany.

This solo journey took me from Stuttgart to Munich to Rottweil to Erlangen, got my bag stolen in Cologne, partied my nights away in Berlin, strolled around rainy Hamburg, and explore the East German city of Leipzig, before ending my trip in Dresden, celebrating my 26th birthday at a bar, listening to German rap battles with my new found friends.

As the saying goes, Happiness is only real when shared. We, humans, are social animals. No matter how independent we are, at the end of the day, we need our friends.. and good friends are everywhere if you know where to find them.

Here is a video to commemorate all the connections I made and all the kind and friendly people of Germany. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I do making them.

Locations: Stuttgart, Rottweil, Munich, Erlangen, Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg, Luneburg, Leipzig, Dresden, Nuremberg, and Frankfurt

I camped alone in a German forest

The first 100 people to use code TOMTHORNTON at the link below will get 60% off of Incogni:

A weekend where I challenge myself to quit scrolling on the internet and stay alive while camping out in the woods, in the Saxon Switzerland National Park, between Dresden and the Czech border :)

Germans seem to love camping, but as far as I can tell, it's almost always the big, loud, family version, with swimming pools and car parks... but I wanted to camp out in the wilderness as part of a longer hike out in nature.

Can you wild camp in Germany? The answer, pretty much everywhere, is no - BUT... there are a few spots that let you. I was in the Forststeig Elbsandstein, basically a piece of the Sächsische Schweiz. They have certain Biwakplätze and Trekkinghütten where you can camp out. Having a hut right next to you is not exactly *wild* wild, but definitely the closest thing available so that you can Wildcampen in Deutschland, imo. And it's nice to know that there's shelter/first aid/etc there, in an emergency.

subscribe & join the patreon for more

*this is not a hiking guide* - I did a modified version of stages 4 and 5 here: (modified to start from the bus stop in Rosenthal-Bielatal and end at the bus stop in Bielatal - I'm actually pretty sure I had the same driver drop me off on Saturday and pick me up on Sunday!) but you should always do your own research on safety, navigation, permits, weather forecasts, forest fires, avalanches, gear, etc, etc. Sequences in this video are drastically shortened (24h of hiking/camping in a 10-minute video), and shown out of order.

Bus travel I checked on the DB Navigator app... but best to double-check with the local services:

More information on staying overnight in this particular place:

Trekkingtickets cost 10 euros per person per night (at least, they did when I did it). I bought mine at Pirna, they don't actually sell them at the bus station anymore, but at a nearby office. But there is a list online of where you can buy them.

I also achieved the feat of overnight wild camping with a 30L backpack! I love my new Salomon Trailblazer 30L, I will probably make a short about how good it is, but I felt fine carrying it all weekend, with my tent, food, water etc on my back.

I hope that you're doing well and staying safe.
